If you upgrade a tower/camp/keep/castle then you should reap a small reward for every tick of points you get. Basically you upgrade a tower, and at the next points tick which is every 15 minutes you get a small reward for having upgraded and therefore contributed to holding it.

At the moment you sink huge gold reserves into it for nothing back. Would be nice for a small reward. Maybe even just every time enemy attackers are successfully repelled from a place you’ve upgraded.

I don’t hate the idea but removes the strategy from the game in some sense.

As it stands now, pugs normally don’t upgrade. Or do do sporadically.

The reason there is no “carrot” is the commanders are the stick. No commander, then no stick. No stick then no strategy.

I prefer the aspect of individual humans playing a game of strategy rather than a game providing incentives to what should have been common sense in the first place.

Care to explain what you mean better? I honestly cannot see how a small reward for holding a position you’ve upgraded against hostiles removes strategy. My idea is trying to promote people to upgrade things they wouldn’t normally. I won’t upgrade anything in a keep/castle as I cannot afford it, and even when I can I know it’ll be lost soon. I sometimes upgrade towers, I often upgrade camps but… meh.

I think upgrading a tower and said tower being able to repel an attack is worth the defenders bonus at least, when you consider a couple of lucky shots to down an enemy will get you said reward.

I know what you mean. I just think this would turn the pug from zerg offensive into pug defensive. Would altar the meta game. I kinda like where it is now.

Just afraid of pushing the fickle pug mentality into the defensive arena. Then the pugs just start pulling more supply out of keeps and towers. That’s what I’m afraid of. Pugs are bad enough about pulling supplies out of marginally fortified objectives as it is.

I don’t think it should be done per tick, as that favors the team that holds keeps overnight rather than the one which holds them during the day, when the upgrades actually matter. So I’d prefer a reward given per repelled attack or something. Other than that I agree.

Your guild gets influence for every event that takes place in your tower/keep. And by this I mean every player that kills an enemy player or repairs a gate/wall, and receives a gold medal for defending the tower/keep, will give your guild 2 influence. And it’s easier to defend a tower the more upgraded it is.

I know this because I’m the only player in the guild I claim towers with, and sometimes when I’m asleep my influence will have shot up a bunch of extra points and it’ll show a list of events during a time I wasn’t online.

I must say I am not a “carrot on a stick” guy. I fully enjoy WvW for what it is and think playing it should be reward enough.

However,

I support this idea. It doesnt have to be anything big…maybe blueprints etc…
also would be nice for some sort of guild reward/recognition as well.

It would get people to upgrade more often and improve the battles.

The issue I see here is there is a specific order in which you want to upgrade most keeps and towers. By putting some incentive in front of pugs, it will make them want to claim / upgrade these keeps and towers quickly. This may cause a pug to claim Hills and toss up some oil just so he can get his rewards.

The incentive is that upgraded locations are easier to defend and thus you keep them longer -earning more ticks.

Reasonable & tactical upgrating of fortifications is vital .. meaningless upgrating is the doom of your troops. There is always an interesting feeling to the walls, that are upgrated at a fortification – especially when the supplys are drained by it & a zerg of enemy troops is knocking at your gate with an own invitation to your defenders party.
Learn how to do what & especially when – under what circumstances .. then you´ll realize, that your request, or “idea” is meaningless .. for the reason that there is such an insane advantage to the upgrades right now, that more OP they can´t possibly be allowed to become.

I’m quite aware of appropriate times to upgrade thank you… i’m really not sure where your coming from with that part of your argument. If you can even call it that. My suggestion doesn’t buff upgrades either which your final sentence seems to suggest. I said a small reward for either a) every point tick of holding said position or b) every time said position is able to repel enemy attackers. Key word, small. A small reward. I prefer option B because A would, as others stated, give a large reward to those on night shifts which are dominant.

Honestly have literally no idea where you are coming from…. your argument seems to consist of me not knowing when to upgrade (not sure how that conclusion was made), and a small reward to the upgrader making walls/doors somehow overpowered.

All my idea does is make upgrading more economically feasible for some people.

Very good point. It’s much easier to hold an upgraded keep when most your enemies are in bed
