One of my primary concerns with the new league system is that it will force imbalanced matchups for multiple weeks. Instead the system should use an accelerated swiss format for the first 2 weeks and normal swiss matchmaking for the remainder of the league.

For 9 server brackets the matchup system I am proposing will work as follows:
Week 1:
Server 1 vs Server 4 vs Server 7
Server 2 vs Server 5 vs Server 8
Server 3 vs Server 6 vs Server 9

This will have a blowout but will put server 1, 2 and 3 ahead of the rest of the servers, this will minimize the blowouts down the road. The next weeks matchup can be as follows:

Server 1 vs Server 3 vs Server 8
Server 2 vs Server 6 vs Server 7
Server 4 vs Server 5 vs Server 9

At the end of this week the servers should be roughly ordered enough that the remaining matches using a swiss system (match servers of similar score) wont be blowouts. While server 9 may never face server 1, they don’t have to. I think this would be a better way to handle the the setup for silver and bronze leagues in NA and all the teirs in EU. It will effectively minimize the crappy weeks the league system seems to guarantee.

Then the rest plays out with a standard swiss format, winners play winners, losers play losers.

If by week 2 assuming no upsets
Server 1: 4 points
Server 2: 4 points
Server 3: 3 points
Server 4: 3 points
Server 5: 3 points
Server 6: 2 points
Server 7: 0 points
Server 8: 0 points
Server 9: 0 points

Next week would be
Server 1 vs Server 2 vs Server 3
Server 4 vs Server 5 vs Server 6
Server 7 vs Server 6 vs Server 9

Expected result:
Server 1: 6 points
Server 2: 5 points
Server 3: 3 points
Server 4: 5 points
Server 5: 4 points
Server 6: 2 points
Server 7: 2 points
Server 8: 1 points
Server 9: 0 points

next weeks matchup would be 1, 2, 4 then 5,3,6 then 7,8,9

well something has to be done as right now rank 5 and rank6 server will face the worst leagues ever. why cant we just have it so if u are being destroyed in 1 league u will move down to the second league and the ones winning league 2 move up to league 1 or something.
rank5 and rank6 will be stuck in those horrible blowout matches for weeks and that is not fun for us at all.
this for the whole league is really gonna happen as anet separated t2 and t1 . now rank 5 and 6 suffer vs the horribly stacked t1 servers.

Maybe a few weeks of blowouts for the T1 servers will encourage guilds to spread out since it’s no longer T1 vs T1 (more or less) and the need for stacking is lessened?

In any case, for the lower leagues, a spread of 9 ranks between top and bottom is still quite large.

Using acceleration and then a swiss format should decrease the amount of blowout weeks significantly.

Very excellent idea!

They could allow free transfers to the blown out servers at the bottom fo the tier to help balance things out after week one. Many people on JQ may find their queues to be too long with all their transfers.
