Use of D/D ele in WvWvW?
I agree, small adjustments could help them out. Other classes started to outshine them.

Use cleric gear and fotm build —> charge inside enemy zerg —> push random buttons and try to look scary —> enemy PUGs flee

Oddly, soloing camps is easy on a D/D Ele.
Pick the right spot behind orchard, up against the wall & fence & whilst keeping target on the main guard, you can take them all on at once.
Admittedly, it gets very close at times.
Mill & Quarry has a spot where you can pull them all too, with the advantage you`re not having to fight things you can`t see due to the stupid trees at orchard
As for fighting players, you can splatter some, but more often then not any half competent player can just stun lock/fear/root you to death in seconds if you`ve no cds to spare.

D/D was heavily overnerfed (like in 5 consecutive patches), that’s why they’ve pretty much disappeared. You can still bunker them but they’re a fraction of the fun they used to be.

D/D ele is still very survivable and in group fights provides great CC’s and buffs.
But I’m built a lil more tanky – dolyak runes with all sentinel’s gear and some celestial ascended trinkets. sigils of energy and life, swap out life for force when 25 stacks reached.

I can solo a camp without pulling guards, but it definitely takes too long – sometimes the first guards to die respawn before I have it capped.
Making sure you land your churning earth is absolutely a must – if you’re not using armor of earth (for stability) and teleporting during cast to make sure you land it, you really need to start doing so
Also make sure you triple-blast your fire fields (fire 3 or 4 + dodge-roll earth into field + earthquake + churning earth) to keep stacks of might up for you and your friends.
And try to always use fire grab on burning targets. When you’re earth 4/5 are cooling down use magnetic leap in fire fields for the fire shield combo.
Start fights with lightning aura+RTL+updraft then into the combo above, using teleport to land the churning earth, and you can really start a fight off with the upper hand.
plus you should have more healing and condi removals than anything that isn’t a guardian.
personally I never played D/D ele when it was “godly” before the patches, so I learned under the current meta, and I don’t think it’s underpowered. It did however kitten me off when cleansing fire was no longer a stun breaker.

Infact the ele class has such a broad spectrum it can play, go use something else.
Guardian on the other hand has larger cooldowns than fukushima.

D/D ele can still roam decently although the nerfs and class issues have really hurt, RTL being one of the biggest and basically made it 40 seconds no matter what considering how easy it is to avoid the glowy ball that sometimes still self stuns. Makes chasing and running a nightmare against some classes I get sad seeing a warrior speed away knowing even before the nerfs to RTL they had better mobility if they spec’d for it.
As for camps they are very much soloable. Some tips are use earth elemental elite to tank some of the damage and target down the scouts first to stop the cripples and blinds after they die the rest is a cakewalk. It is still doable without the elite but is more tricky. Typical “rotation” works well enough to do the aoe damage and might stacks to take them all down when they clump up. Tower lords can also be soloed in the same way but I have yet to take on a Keep lord solo to see about those.
My build is isn’t super defensive with around 1.4k vit and 1.2k toughness, boon duration runes 0/10/0/30/30 standard enough to keep me alive but also enough damage to still be a bit of a threat and keep pressure up when in combat. Going full bunker is pointless unless you just want to troll since you lack any kind of damage and on the flip side going all damage will only work for staff in zergs since ele is the lowest defense in the game with little inbuilt survivability unless spec’d. Some builds I do feel like they hard counter me a bit though s/x thief and cc warrior are both fights that give me a lot of trouble. That being said it is still my favourite class/ playstyle regardless of the fact I could play any other class and preform better for less work. ^^

My brother roams pretty well on a d/d ele, but he does switch to staff for zerging.
There is a guild on my server that uses several d/d eles in their 20-man group and are really really good. I don’t play the class so I can’t tell you how they make it work, you can check out their video here.
Goodness … am I the only one that rolls with a 0/25/0/15/30 setup? D/D or S/D for roaming, Staff for siege/zerg work. Although, I do run the Boon Duration runes … have been tempted to save for Dolyak or Exuberance, though.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
You can solo some camp easy by pulling all NPCs to the corner of the house to make range NPCs don’t have line of sight on you and they will clump up with melee NPCs and you can AoE all of them down in no time. (You can use Earth Elemental to tank some damage.)
I hardly ever get a 1v1, always getting jumped by groups or zergs lol.
What about gear? Right now I’m running knight’s armor, two major runes of melandru for more toughness and less condition affliction, four major runes of water (couldn’t use two others, barely any money and I had extra runes) (rare, can’t afford exotics; cept for weapons) and knight exotic daggers (battle and bloodlust), with Po/Pr/To jewelry, bezerker amulet…..I got 1617 power, 1757 toughness, 1743 precision (43% chance to crit), 13,192 max health…..I got max Jewelcrafting, but that hasn’t helped at all yet lol. I’ve kinda just farming around the veteran chains and doing world bosses, now I want to do WvWvW and have no idea the kind of gear i need, or what my role is supposed to be for D/D. Any help would help.
Soling camps on an ele is easy. As you are running up swap in glyph of storms and use it in earth attunement for the aoe blinds. Then just aoe them down in melee range. If you really want to be safe use an earth elemental to tank some damage.
When I use earth elemental I usually take almost no damage myself and the elemental survives with 25-50% hp.
D/D ele had been replaced with GS/Hammer warrior, they have all the mobility and control you used to have yet more hp and armor.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
I still don’t understand how people can possibly think D/D ele is horrible. I’ve been running 0/10/0/30/30 since I first rolled my ele. My traits, skills and gear has evolved as my understanding of the class and philosophy of what the class is has changed. I still comfortably 2v1 in most situations unless the player I’m versing is quite competent. The class is fine as it is, sure you have to work harder but that’s what’s rewarding about it. There’s plenty of combos and possibilities people just fail to see beyond the standard rotations.

its not the easiest class/build to play. you have to constantly chain through 25 skills at all times. not recommended if you dont like pushing a kitten-load of buttons.

Sorry, but d/d ele is incredibly easy and leaves lots of room for error. 25 skills is nothing compared to most mmos.

I run those traits as well. It provides high dps with a good amount of survivability and support for you allies.

I started with PVT armor/weapons with Cleric’s accessories and swapped out piece and changed runes as I tried new things.

ptv/clerics is cookie cutter bunker d/d ele. Replace it with more damage gear as you get more comfortable with your survivability.

Well as my skills improved high survivability became a liability to me because I couldn’t kill fast enough and I would almost always get jumped. So I started swapping in piece that gave me more of an edge offensively. Eventually I got to a minimum amount of defensive stats that I was comfortable with and ended up with the set I currently use.
If you’re curious my minimum is 2.5k armor and 15k health and I don’t run any healing power other than what I gain from traits and boon duration runes.

That would still be too defensive for me, though by the sounds of it you’re still in the process of gearing up. Play around with gear don’t be afraid to break the mold that is how you learn.

Personally: Knight’s with ruby orbs and pvt/valkyrie accessories. Weapons (lust and energy). Works well for me, with a good amount of survivability and support. Side note, you can tweak it a bit more if you have fortitude/leeching.
If it helps I’m just looking for, powerful enough to win a 1v1, with a decent enough chance at surviving. Balanced pretty much. I tried Zerker, literally didn’t make it out of the top half of the Battleground lmao

Can’t help you sorry, my armor, runes and sigils are tailored to my specific play style. What works for me may not work for you. For instance Drastic.8920’s set up wouldn’t suite me at all. That doesn’t make his choice any less valid or make it any better or worse than mine.

Take heart Psy, the only times I’ve been able to beat a d/d ele was with the help of a ranger or thief. I run a hybrid bunker eng build, so my dps is relatively low compared with hgh or grenade builds. They seem to be either bunker (thus can outheal) or more skilled though I rarely see them alone. However, I just had a nice duel at the south ruins point earlier with a d/d ele who was a bunker (healers) build, which though lost, was a good exercise for me in how to handle a d/d ele.
