Using waypoints in wvw is a problem.
Running around solo ganking people in a team game doesn’t accomplish much? Who knew?
Yea, I’ve seen this abused a bunch. I’d rather have something like a proximity disable than a timer. If you’re within x—say 1500—range of an enemy you can’t port. But you would have to do the same for logging out since its used just as often to escape. But then again some people just really have to go and it might not be fair to make it so difficult to leave wvw.

Doesn’t even have to be solo. If you have a team of people running around capping points and you run into someone who immediately logs out or ports, you’re denied a kill that you would’ve otherwise had, even if you’re contributing to the game normally. I don’t know what a solution would be that would be fair, but the feature is sometimes abused.
If you’re running around as a group of 5 and you’re chasing 1 guy to get a kill, you’re wasting time. Go take a supply camp or something. If he ports home, he still has to walk all the way back, which is the same as killing him sans the 10% chance you may get a useless badge.

I’m abusing the hell out of it myself. Being unkillable is just too good not to use when the option is there. The proximity thing would work as well. Fixing the logging out thing would be simple. Just make it so you have to be standing still, out of combat, and give it a 20 second countdown before you actually logged. No problem for people who have to go, but impossible to use it as an escape.
I got 2k+ deaths, and I’m not crying, problem is your mentality. Take it like a man!

Getting kills is not the point of WvWvW, capturing territories is, if they port away than that is no different than you killing them, they can no longer defend whatever they were defending. As that other guy said stop chasing random solo explorers and go capture supply camps. Be useful.
I fail to see why waypointing back is a problem – its not like you can do it in combat. If you can’t hit them before they port out (and there are 1500 range abilities) its your problem.

Getting the feeling there are a lot of zergers on this forum. Hopefully someone from anet at least recognizes how much of a problem this is for roamers.
It is fine to me right now.

I think the ultimate fix is to not care about your kill tally. Chances are you won’t get a badge of honor for it anyway. Just write it off as a victory and move on. I’ve had people port/log out on me, but I just shrug it off. Cowards will be cowards.

Or you could just not kill chase a solo and go do something useful.

I don’t see that it is a major problem at all, in fact I’ve been making builds just to bother the roamers. It’s so delightful to see a group of about ten start chasing you down after dancing behind them when they are taking a keep/tower/camp. You can run them half way across the map: as a ‘free’ kill is such a noob magnet to a lot of people – and after not getting hit you just port back; successfully wasting a medium size groups time and hindering the rest of that server to take whatever they were attacking faster.
I’ve also used this in the hiding spots around the map (supply camps cough) where you just lie down; for example in the tower in the BL north west camp while a team is capping; and port just when they find me out; usually allowing my team to storm down and deny the cap.
- War tactics; don’t like it? have a sad face: )=
The only thing I’m not OK with is when it’s a 1v1 situation and someone ports or logs when within your range.

Ok, not to disagree with you. But think about this. Some people like SPvP, Some like WvW, Some like PvE. You can’t tell people how to play this game.. (i’m not saying you are with full mentality). But in general.. You just can’t.. We all paid our money to play our character however we want. And although I agree with you and would also leave a solo player alone. You can’t tell someone not too. The’re group of 5 might LOVE the thrill of the hunt of finding that one guy and hunting him down.. It’s their prerogative. They can do whatever they want even tho it MIGHT not be best for the server in WvW. Think about it.. Do you go to PvE and tell people to think about bettering our server and get out to WvW and take a Supply Camp? no.. So don’t sit here and tell people they can’t chase 1 guy if they want.
I’m just sayin.. we all paid our money..
I think they should replace repair costs in WvW with waypoint costs.
Same result (ie. people have to pay when they die) but less negative associations with death and discourages constant waypoint use.
