I was wondering what screen capture software folks use, and any issues / complaints about said software. (does it use too much RAM/CPU, files too big etc…)

Overwolf video recorder
Fraps
Camtasia or Camstudio
Jing
Screnflow

Also any recommendations on minimum hardware required to record at 1920×1080 with High settings in GW2.

Thanks!

I had some lag issues with Overwolf, but personally I recommend Bandicam. The quality and performance are really good. As for the minimum hardware requirements, I’m not sure, but you could always download the free version (comes with a watermark and capture time limit), but it’s a good way to test it out.

Seconding the Bandicam suggestion. It’s way lighter on your system than Fraps is, and the quality is great. Definitely give the free version a try (limitations: 10-minute video length + watermark). I liked it so much I ended up getting a commercial license for it.

Dxtory is another good option out there. I haven’t used it personally, but it’s quite a popular choice amongst streamers and content creators in the Smite community. The website can be found here.

Check out if Shadowplay if you have a newer Nvidia Card.

If you have a graphics card that supports it (the newer Nvidia ones), Shadowplay is really good for this. It uses the hardware to do the encoding instead of software so there is very little drop in performance. The file sizes also seem to be considerably smaller than fraps. It is still in beta though so there are not many configuration options, and it only works if you’re playing in full screen right now.

Razer Game Booster is free and offers easy decent Video Capture. After trying several of the software systems, I finally bit the bullet and bought an AverMedia hardware encoder card though.

Open Broadcaster also works really well and doesn’t slow down your system like fraps does. It’s open-source so it is free as well.

I use OBS too, and like it a lot for local recording.

I use MSI afterburner. It’s free. I can’t seem to get it to save at a low file size, but when I open the video with windows movie maker, and save it to upload to youtube after, it’s a more reasonable size then.

Dxtory all the way. Multiple audio streams for more editing options and it’s not a resource hog.
