WVW is DEAD and full of well Professors rofl
Am afraid that EOTM will be dead soon. I have been in 6 EOTM yesterday and it was just baghunting. Within 30min our zerg went from 50 to 15. After one hour of baghunting, the tag left so anybody else.
Most people like to do the objectives of the map and when they can’t do it, they just leave. Anet did a great job on the new BL, but some people wont understand that baghunting is what killing WvW. Anyhow am only doing EOTM for dailies, since this baghunting is getting excessive.

Wait a minute, people are killing other people, in a pvp orientated map? How rude..

Haha Is this a troll post? But just in case you’re being serious, in order to click and enter EotM, you have to open the “WvWvW” window so just think about that next time you complain about group PvP. :P
OP , as I usually do I looked at your post history to gain an understanding of your point of view.
I did not find any posts complaining about the period SoS was the “Zerg” Server
I did not find any posts complaining about the period YB was the “Zerg” Server
I did not find any posts complaining about the period FA was the “Zerg” Server
I do appreciate the fact that many of the recent WvW changes promote every man for themselves zerg playstyles. This has worn a lot of WvW players down to a raw end.
IMHO, insert largest server in each tier is doing nothing that Anet is not pushing them towards. To me, The apparent intention for WvW is characters massing together on whichever character suits themselves at that moment and blazing around unopposed across maps gaining karma.
Based on the recent disconnects between company and consumers, I am fully expecting flying golems as the major WvW update.
Good luck, PvPers of all forms either adapt or move to other worlds.

I’m from Piken and to be honest our PPT is rubbish but the enemy flat out refuses to fight us and when they do they wipe 9/10 times, i’m struggling to understand why they are so bad at this part of the game (not an insult, just an observation).
We don’t PPT much but we PPT enough to keep our place, but honestly EVERY server we fight can’t fight back or just runs, it’s not fun anymore, what happened to all these servers ?.

It’s because you go running at them with your arms wide open begging for hugs.

+87 for you. I totally agree that throwing yourself off of uncertain height cliffs to die gets old really fast. I’ve been playing new bl almost daily since launch and I still manage to kill myself because there are no visual cues to tell me if the drop will be fatal.

I was on Piken for a couple months a couple of years ago, and I got to see your open field groups first hand. The honest truth is that you guys are just….. really really good at it. Don’t get me wrong, there were a couple servers that were just laughably bad, where I watched a group of maybe 20 from Piken take on a group of about 70 with no real problems. But that was also the server I was doing 13k crits to people while wearing full bunker gear, so they seemed all sorts of dysfunctional. But, I think at this point, you guys have built up a pretty solid reputation for being extremely strong in the open field, so I’m guessing other servers have adjusted their tactics to try to avoid engaging you where you’d hold the clear advantage.
Though what I learned while I was over there is that the different language based servers all had different focuses. The English speaking servers focused on the open field fights. The German servers were masters of siege defenses. And the French servers seemed to primarily just get into an omniblob then run away until everyone else was asleep. Which was…. very bizarre to see 70 people run away from 15 for 8 hours a day every day for a week. I still haven’t been able to mentally process that.

Your post reminded me so much of fighting a certain server. LOL. Yes, sad that this behavior is rewarded in PPT.

OP,
I uninstalled this week due to the issues you commented on. I have 6k hours logged with WvW as my primary game-mode. The problems with population balance, profession skill balances such as cd’s and the ridiculous damage Rev’s are capable of doing have pushed me out of the game. GvG’s are dead. Anet has made it so a group of 25 highly skilled players are unable to make a difference on map due to the 100 man population cap. Zerg busting is dead. Anet has made it impossible to defend a keep with 20 people when the population cap is 100 people. PPT is dead. Therefore WvW is dead. The only thing that lives is the EoTM K-train mechanics. If you have fun in WvW by K-training or standing afk at your server’s waypoint then more power to you. I almost forgot. Roaming groups are now composed of 10 or 15 people, so rip solo roaming as well. GG Anet because you are apparently the best player on the opposing players team. If your core (referencing the select group of players the dev’s look to for feedback) has helped bring you to this low point I can understand your apprehension of taking feedback from your player base. Despite the simplification of these problem areas within my post, please take WvW more seriously than whatever you are doing right now. Maybe I will reinstall in six months to a year with hopes that Dr. Frankenstein has caused WvW to live again. I say that because repairing the damage done to WvW is going to require a methodical/ piece-by-piece approach.
Good luck everyone!

the visual cue is that the ground looks really far away. I mean you could just as easily jump to your death in many many places near Hills and even a few spots near Bay. People don’t anymore because after playing on that map for 3 years they know roughly which spots are safe. I killed myself falling off cliffs constantly for the first month or so, but almost never these days since I’m getting used to the map.

Yeah, it’ll take quite some time and innumerable faceplants.
Problem is, the ground -always- looks really far away. Everywhere the ground looks so bland and vague. I’m carto-graphically challenged anyways. Would be nice if there was a little altimeter off in the corner of the UI, like a dot or something that indicated where you were currently on the map, vertically speaking. We don’t really have a means of measuring fall distance, right?
Edit: No way to measure, other than your corpse?

I can’t speak for EB, but at least on Alpine home BL Gandara gave you fights if you came for them and didn’t bring a zone blob. I haven’t seen Pikens in ages though, but if our slide down to Silver continues I’m sure that’ll happen soon enough.
Just don’t expect to get many fights on the Desert boredomlands. They’re all in EB now, what’s left of our fighting force.

I get the point, I see where it comes from…What you fail to realise is what he’s getting at.
Eotm pre/early HoT was a levelling up / karma train. Many people used it as a goto for those reasons. Whilst it was in this ‘form’ groups did fight one another, random pug zergs against one another, normally the largest one would win, the commander would then look to only engage in favourable conditions. When fights occurred it felt relatively fair and balanced, a mix of all levels/geared players. So there was a mix between xp, k-train and PvP. This suited different players at different times. Personally I enjoyed the group fighting and the wexp (so i can improve my siege masteries).
My current experience of EotM, as a mid geared lvl80… Many commanders try to achieve what i said above, each team having a reasonable zerg. There are fights but objectives swap hands regularly (with the exception of keeps).
Then comes a guild group, 10-20 geared 80’s all from the same guild so i assume voice comms. Some lead their teams zerg around, others just chase enemy zergs. The majority of the time this guild group masacres the other teams zergs (no suprise organised lvl80’s, geared with voice comms beating a pug group with levellers and k-train’ers). The guild group chases the other pugs around the map collecting bags, people get fed up of being rolled over, players and commanders leave….
The guild group no longer has people to farm so leave…the team they were on now faceroll the entire map due to the enemy having no players/comms (I always look to see if my team has a commander when i join eotm, if there is non i normally leave). In other MMO’s I would relate it to low level ganking, they give themselves every advantage and actively look to destroy the enemies gameplay. When the enemy leaves out of frustration the group loses interest and leaves the map, completely ruining the map for the rest of the players (even the side they were on now face no enemy).
So yes wvw/eotm should be about PvP, yes GW2 is an mmo so people should play in groups/with friends. But the way guild groups actively chase enemy groups round the map solely to wipe them out (ignores all objectives) leaves a very sour taste and can leave an entire eotm reset ruined.

If those guilds are wrecking your Ktrain i suggest you leave eotm and go farm pve for that time.

I know i wrote a lot, but either you didn’t read it all or you’re one of the guilds that enjoy it.
My point is that guild groups (10-20+) ruin the PvP for the majority of those in EotM. An organised group on a mostly random map farming levellers/random players, makes for a rubbish experience for near everyone else in that map.
The same way that a full premade party Vs random players ruins Ranked Spvp. Ofc the random people may be able to beat the premade, but for the most part it just leads to frustration and disappointment.
I don’t understand why groups feel the need to do it, but hey if that’s what you feel PvP is… A group of organised people, using set rotations and properly itemised gear/builds and voice comms to beat a bunch of random levellers/PvE’rs, in fact the outcome is almost scripted….then You got me, I must go PvE
Sometimes people want to have fun, they go EotM, because EB prolly has a queue and there’s nothing on the new Borders to fight, unless you scrim in the Guild Arena these days, there’s hardly much to fight.
GvGers are pretty much keeping metas moving and creating new builds for the Community, otherwise idk how long the game mode would last, even thought people reckon their way of playing is more important.
Most pugs are casual though, Piken and Gandara don’t exactly have ‘great’ pugs (like mostly everyone else tbh), the national servers are generally worse, but it depends on who is leading and the amount of experienced players in the zerg; who know what they’re doing.
Plays completely opposite professions to his main Teef.

You do realize that pug zergs with text commanders and uplevels get shredded by guild groups on classic WvWvW maps too right? You’ll probably get laughed off the map if you complained about that there. Guild raids are a WvWvW staple, they “ruin” EotM mist if you’re using it for easy farming, which in that case there will be no pity party.
I don’t care if a guild group is farming EotM. I’ll just chuckle, assume they’re all incompetent tossers, and carry on with my day.

On that, EOTM had always been a place where ppl come to ‘Grind Xp’ and ‘Bags’ – the only complaint I heard about EOTM is that the XP gain was nerfed, personally i dislike EOTM, there is no skill or tactics whatsoever in fights overthere, itsjust groups running in circles capping objectives and grinding champ bags!
EB has become the meth clinic of WvW — it’s the only place to get 3+ years of addiction satiated with frequent, unobstructed fights.
I’ve been really enjoying EOTM lately with all the fights happening, not running around keeping away from each other’s zergs as much, karma training like before. It seems an influx of regular WvWers have made their way into EOTM right after HoT released. I find it a double edged sword though, because a lot of these players are in there because they really dislike or the ppl they play with dislike the new BL, and EB is queued or there’s nobody around to fight or to fight with in their WvW matchup so they make their way to EOTM to find WvW like battles.
I understand that some ppl are surprised that’s the zergs actually engage with each other now, but that just makes for a more fruitful Karma Train. It’s actually engaging and fun now. Not ‘put NetFlix on and ktrain mindlessly’ like before. For the people upset about there being fighting, just pay attention and stick to the commander and not be part of a big fat tail to get ganked or split in half by the enemy and wiped, and you’ll have a better time in the long run. The more ppl that do that the better.
