WVW matchup seems imbalanced?
Ah the wonders of the glicko matchup system. There are two sides to this, in the past glicko would add/subtract less points than it does now for a servers placement at the end of a macthup. This would often lead to the same servers fighting each other for a very long time, sometimes over a year with the same opponents without any variety. The reason was because the older system created the so called glicko wall, which took a long time to break down. This basically locked servers into the same matchups for a long time. The upside of this was that it reduced the pressure for players to have to play to win every week.
Over the last several months, Anet has made several changes to glicko and to scoring that greatly increases the chances of having more variety in matchups. The downside of this is that it can lead to lopsided matchups with a dominant server rolling a matchup with servers from a lower tier.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.
>Class Balance is a Joke<
Players wanted more variety than balance in the matchups. ANet listened and added some randomness to matchups instead of only using the ranks. It dates back few years.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/big-changes-coming-to-wvw-matchups
The world linking and the victory points features caused problems in the match-making; Glicko could not keep up even with the volatility and deviation resets. One thing ANet did was tweaking the ratings manually:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Glicko-Temporary-Manual-Adjustments
ANet also proposed to split all servers in half so that they had more options for linking worlds. But that plan received a very negative response on these forums. So into the trash bin it went.
I think they are working on the population rebalancing but it’s not ready to be discussed on. (or at least this should be their #1 focus because so many things in WvW hinges upon it)

So this was really a wanted thing? Its soo boring. Id rather be on a losing team than a dominating team but I guess others would rather the other side right.

It is not unreasonable for players to want more variety in a matchup, but there is always the trade off with any kind of match making system. There is no perfect system.

Not long ago FA was stuck in T2 despite being matched against servers much larger than us. For weeks on end. This is when our paired server was SoR, a relative non factor.
Best thing you can hope to do is find the times when the opposing servers are most competitive and play then. NSP has a solid EU presence and YB can carry hard EU through early OCX. Might not be possible depending on your schedule, not much can be done about it though.
FA will swap with SBI soon enough. We’ve been ranked 5~7 for three weeks now, and despite rolling T4 several times I don’t think FA ever actually had the glicko rating of a T4 server.

FA will swap with SBI soon, yup, and we’ll be back to the SoS/FA/TC matchup that was when I started playing. I’d be glad to see it, though I don’t think FA can actually compete in Tier 2 either, against the numbers and coverage both SoS and TC can put out. But it won’t be as bad a stomp as it used to be the last time FA was in T2.
I expect FA and SBI to keep swapping between Tier 2 and Tier 3, which is frankly the best outcome you can hope for. Tier 3 could be SBI, YB and DB next week, which is a far better matchup.
It’s just that NSP has only a ‘decent’ primetime coverage (not overpowering) and next to no offhours coverage, so they can’t guarantee skirmish wins at anytime to keep up, same for CD. HoD is the exact opposite.
Hope to see FA tomarrow/next week. SBI was pretty great too. FA tell your most famous commander to tag up when he plays please.

The problem with the matchup variety is that the server populations and coverage are terribly imbalanced. The result is half the matches (or more) are complete face stomps.
If there was decent population balance the matchup variety would be a good thing.
Right now it’s just driving people away.

Staleness prior it also drove people away… There is no perfect system, but i’ll take varierity over fighting the same people for months any day. We get nothing from “winning” in WvW anyway. Why Should I bother if the matchup is completely loopsided in PPTwars?

That’s why Anet suggested more, smaller servers. A lot easier to balance population through linking if they have lots of small numbers to work with, as opposed to a tiny sample of larger numbers. But people don’t want that.

The whole linking thing is kinda weird. If they want to put people together to play why not just open up the guesting system to WvW like it was for PvE?
Someone also mentioned WoW has a mercenary system or something where you work for another team for awhile. Never played that game.
They have shown that transfer/servers are outdated by doing links. Why not just go all way?

No, it doesn’t… What you have over there are servers linked in a battlegroup, and the teams in battlegrounds are composed with people from any server inside the battlegroup.

There were a lot of problems with that proposal, which was only brought for discussion. They never mentioned it being an actual alternative or replacement for WvW. The biggest issue with it, in my opinion, was the lack of details and how it would affect servers. There were many reasons players were hesitant about it.

I feel like anet has moved on from wvw…..
No guys this match up system dont give any kind of competition. seems like every week there are servers suffering the outnumbered way. playing knowing that there is nothing you can do, abuse and bulling is what is all about. frustration, anger and hate is all we left with.
these kind of feelings i dont want froma game that i supose to be having fun playing.
no thanks.
change now.

Well, just depends on the server. IF FA starts losing, they stop playing (as does TC and BG – been on all 3). Also with the new scoring system the 2 -1 – 1 point system, which is the stupidest thing A.NET has done, if you are not 1st in the match the other 2 spots don’t matter because you get the same amount of points.
FA was low for awhile, but now they are climbing. They are honestly a T2 server, and maybe this week they move there.
The last time we saw them they didn’t have the numbers they have now. Glicko doesn’t take the immediacy of change well, and so FA will have to spend a bit of time climbing.
Ranking is not necessary a good indication of a server strength, especially after relink. FA easily filled up 4 maps during reset and 2 maps in weekdays at a certain point, that population alone easily put them into T2 spot.

Because the game experience changes a lot when you shift away from meeting your opponents toe-to-toe to when you cannot hold any objective beyond T1.
You could argue that low ranked servers can actually gain rating by losing to very high ranked server. There are strategies to play the underdog successfully but it is frustrating for both sides.
