Hi, I’m sure this has been discussed but a couple of attempts at searching did not yield the information I’m looking for.

I have a AMD Phenom 955 X4 Black Edition 3.2Ghz with 8GB DDR 1600 RAM and an EVGA 560TI 1GB memory card.

In WvW if I encounter a zerg with more than say 15 people, the performance of the game decreases drastically. It appears to be a CPU limitation as opposed to GPU because my GPU is not being overly taxed at all. I turned down graphic settings to low (and disabled shadows) but it didn’t make much of a difference.

I’m wondering whether an upgrade of my CPU/Motherboard would improve this issue? How much?

What setups are people running that make wvw zergs smooth?

I have an Intel I7-2600k (3.4), 8 gb RAM and 1 gb 560Ti. Not that far off from you.

All of my settings are on the highest, with the exception of a couple of things that I forget. I still get around 30 fps in the zergs.

Interesting, so your CPU is a couple steps up from mine but otherwise the same deal.

When I encounter zergs it’s not just FPS – it’s the whole computer struggles. e.g. casting a target spell, my mouse moves sluggishly as I try to move the target reticle around!

AMD cpu can’t follow intel since sandy bridge architecture was out… maybe your cpu can still run gw2, try to check dust in ventirads it can decrease drasticaly your perfs

What do you mean “amd cpu can’t follow intel….”? I don’t understand that sentence. I did clean out inside the case recently with some compressed air so I doubt dust is the issue.

I have the same CPU as you and roughly the same quality of card (6850) and don’t have issues, but I also play on the lowest settings. ~40 fps everywhere, and only dips to ~7-10 in really, really big fights like 40v40 in a garrison room.

If you want to upgrade, then what people say is right, get a 4 core ivy bridge.

Hmm, I am curious about others performance too.

Computer Specifications:
- i7 3930k Six Core Processor OC’d to 4.6ghz.
- Corsair Dominator 32GB RAM.
- Intel SATA III 224GB SSD (GW2 Installed Here).
- Western Digital Black 1TB HDD.
- EVGA Geforce 680 GTX 2GB.

All settings maxed and VSync is turned on.

I am honestly not sure what FPS I get during Zerg vs Zerg fights but its acceptable most of the time since I do not notice a difference.

However, during real intense Zerg vs Zerg fights with all the special affects skills going on my computer definitely takes a hit. Still playable but everything moves in slow-mo for about 3 seconds initially.

What’s even more interesting is the pretty low FPS I get in Lions Arch. Its like 20 to 40 I think. I may record some gameplay later.

THat’s exactly what I was wondering – before I drop $400 or so on an upgrade I wanted to see if people with high end setups like that are also having problems… I imagine that your issues are not nearly as severe as mine though…
