We get it, queue times are too long
The problem is a 2 hour queue to enter any of the battlefield’s,
And finally when you enter 10 minutes later you get an irratating crash and you need to wait again.
Solution: open more battlefields or increase the number of players on each one.
your solution wont work, (open more battlefields) unless it is an overflow wvwvw server with no benefit to your home server.. IE just a place to play, with drops until your server has an opening.. then you can play for real on the home servers wvw
Yeah, something needs to change to make WvW easier to get into at short notice. Right now, the “I can only play for an hour” crowd is locked out from WvW because it’s not uncommon to hit 45 minute queues during prime time.
45 min? on JQ i wait an hour or three most days
Currently right now I’m a member of a large Alliance that is doing very well in WvW but we are only able to get a small fraction of our Alliance into WvW at any given time. This is the end game for us and many of us went in at level 1 and have spent our time leveling by defending our realm. It’s the main reason we wanted to play this game.
That being said, is there anything conversations going on in the background about fixing it so more are able to get in or adding a indication of what number we are in the queue? The only solution for another Alliance was to transfer to another server that was low population so guarantee more members would get in. I don’t feel like that is an acceptable option with all the time and money spend on guild upgrades for each guild.
Also – it doesn’t seem like the queue actually works as intended as we’ve conducted experiments where we’ve queued up at the same time and some pop in 10 minutes and other 6 hours. We’ve also noticed that if you re-queue every 10 minutes you are way more likely to get in.
Thoughts on this?

all they need to do is one new map or put each individual borderland on a separate queue and this would fix the issue with server times. Make a new open world pvp style map with less objectives would be an awesome fix to , then everyone can be happy.
Are you high are something, this game is not base on it. It may be 30% at max what this game is about.
20% for spvp, 30% for WvW and 50% for Pve. At lest that what the devs want it to be.(Unless they change there mind)
Which I my self spends less then 20% of my time in WvW, among a lot of other people I know. It fun, but this game is not base on it.
It is the major problem.
Many guild can’t come in WvWvW and can’tplay together .. it’s really sad for a pvp game.
More maps would work fine, you just decrease the value of everything so it’s the same total number of points. I’m sure they are looking into this issue.
Right now they current limitations might be in place until they can calculate what additional upgrade might be needed in the server cluster to handle the load. I’m hoping we might get an official response on this.

Yes, it is just too long. It makes the game unplayable. Hanging in queue for the whole evening does not make you to smile.
My server is medium populated, and I can just imagine what kind of nightmare it must be on high/full servers.
For me, this is clearly the biggest issue in the game. Ok, there are bugs here and there, but you login to play WvW, and then you notice that you actually cannot play.
Nice…
45 min? on JQ i wait an hour or three most days
Which is obviously far, far worse, and obviously precludes the one hour a night set from being able to WvW at all.

My times have ranged from 5 minutes to 6 hours with no real method to the madness.

Hopefully, at least a HUD indication for WvW queue status would be great to have. At the moment, it seems that there is a queue jump bug.

The only method I’m noticing is that queue times are increasing across the board. Players are getting to be higher level, and to many people, WvW is the endgame.
I am on a medium pop server that is not known for WvW, and where once my queues were 15-30 minutes, now you cannot get in under an hour.
The two week rotations may help to alleviate congestion a bit, but I agree overflow maps or something similar are probably a good idea to at least be thinking about.

i doubt it’s a load problem.
it’s more of a balance problem then anything. increase the population too much? high population servers have an advantage over lower population servers. keep it too low? queues everywhere.
Queue times were too long, so our guild moved to a Medium-sized server. Now we have very short queues (about 5 minutes) for Eternal Battlegrounds only during peak times. In all the other situations there’s no or a practically non-existant queue.
Plenty of servers with little to no queues. People should transfer so the servers are more even, they just don’t want to because they’re afraid of losing.
Interesting point there Turukano. I guess that is a way to balance the servers in a sense.
My guild is a WvW only guild on Dragonbrand and it really is dissapointing to have 40 players online for a planned event to find them all pwnd by the QMonster.
I guess our planned events now need a 3 hour lead time before the event time or as Turuk said we could just transfer to a different server. I am curious how the big “famous” guilds handle this issue.
I hate to say it but I suspect that they AFK with macros in the WvW to make sure they have a spot when they get home
Why should we wait?
I hate to say it but I suspect that they AFK with macros in the WvW to make sure they have a spot when they get home
I don’t think you can do that. I believe there is a timer that kicks you out if you don’t move after a minute or so. And the only safe spot is where you rez and a bot in home base is going to be pretty obvious.
Why should we wait?
You can switch to a low pop server or put the game down and come back in a month. There is literally nothing you can do to speed up a resolution beyond buying $50,000 in gems to bring another person onto the Arenanet crew.
They need to give higher level people the pass over lower levels waiting to get into WvW. 2 reasons, at 80 thats basically your endgame and otehr being higher levels are much for efefctive fighting for rewards for thier server

Right now with the cap being set to 166 people per server per map (4 total) there are queues into 5 hours for the higher population servers. I don’t think increasing the population will hurt anything. The people who can’t field the numbers would drop down in rank to other servers that can field around the same number.

imho: if anything, this game is based on sPvP.
Queues are short on my server, if they are even there.
Level 80 Guardian, Thief
Minions of Grenth, Jade Quarry
I am the guild leader of a hardcore endgame PvP guild. World ranked in AOC/Aion/Swtor (rated). We originally rolled on dragonbrand server with high expectations from months of beta and dominating in WvWvW. We had queues slightly but nothing to cause hesitation.
Since early access every time we have tried to do guild raids, only 15 of 60 could get on the entire night. Most Queues during primetime have been 3+hrs!
More importantly when you do get in, the other players in there are trash, since their is no homogeneity due to a lack of organized guild presence by any one particular guild. It is simply diluted with large amounts of pugs making team work consist of calling each other name in team chat and many randoms with no real group yelling orders at those leading actual people on VOIPs causing more frustration. There is minimal strategy to speak of. Basically its a kittenhow!
2 Days ago, we made the bold step to transfer to one of the new servers ArenaNet opened up the past weekend. It was possibly the greatest decision we ever made. 2 nights in a row we could get over 60 of our guildmates with no queue and operate in cohesion with full guilds in tactical formations and strategic positioning leading to our total domination of the map! It was how we always envisioned WvWvW to be for us and I am sure…..many other guilds too!
Any guild interested in doing serious WvWvW I implore you to come to Devona’s Rest and leave the pugs behind. If you want to vie for world best in an environment that makes it feasible lets do it on our own terms not with this mockery of a queue system on these “full” servers!
How easy is it?
Transfers are Free!
When you transfer your guild stays intact, no reinviting at all!! Guilds span cross server!
Names are unique, no changes required!
It is instant!!!!! It took us 30 seconds, of logging in and logging out!
NO QUEUES!
Only organized guilds on the server with few pugs!
I make this post because, I know to compete for the top, we need around 3-4 more strong guilds or 7-8 medium ones and a bunch of small ones. Preferably of different time zones. Egos are not needed on this server, just common interest in being the best! If this describes your guild, and you are sick of the bs on these other servers, come to Devona’s Rest, or whisper Grimaldi in game. I would be happy to help in anyway I can! Remember Free transfers end soon!
-Grimaldi
it is too long.
The issue is Anet increased server capacity, but did not appear to increase WvWvW capacity, which was a bit silly. Anet really need to up WvWvW max pop or it cuts a large part of the game out for people, only 200 people per map on a large server is not nearly enough.
The 5hour plus wait my group often get is putting us off this game, hope they get this sorted asap as apriority.
The most I’ve had to wait to enter the Eternal Battlegrounds is around half an hour. Which can be easily neglected if you travel over to a Borderlands map first, and then queue up for EBG. Mind you, I’m actually on a high population server.
Plus keep in mind that if they up the maximum people allowed in WvW, you’ll also start seeing things like lag more often – Not to mention that most machines won’t be able to cope with such an amount of players visible on your screen. I mean really. My computer’s pretty high end, and it has plenty of issues running WvW during large scale battles – Imagine adding about 300 people to that (100 for each server), and things will only be getting worse. THAT would spoil the fun of WvW.
Our guild did the same. We moved from Far Shiverpeaks (full to almost full server) to Piken Square (medium-sized server). From heavy queues to hardly any queues. We only mobilize 10 to 20 people normally, but this still gave huge issues with queues on Far Shiverpeaks. Transferring to Piken Square was indeed a very good move.
Transferring your guild isn’t as easy as described above. It’s still easy, but there’s a couple downsides.
Firstly and most importantly, Influence (the Guild currency) is server-specific. If you transfer, you’ll lose all of it. The game only just started so you won’t have that much, but it’s something to consider.
Secondly and possibly not so much of a point anymore, is the bugginess of transferring. Some of our guildmembers could transfer within 30 seconds. Others could not for a full day. This was about a week ago, thus might be fixed already.
If you want to do any serious WvW with your guild I suggest transferring to a medium-sized or small-sized server.
Oh and like Grimaldi said, free tansfers end soon.
I concurr with this post!
We just moved our 40 man guild to Devona’s Rest too, from Jade Quarry where the queues were anywhere upto 6 hours long.
We had our reservations about the move thats for sure, with it being a new server and all, but seriously this was the best move weve made, its awesome!
The community on Devona’s Rest is one of the most friendly and helpful ive been on in 13 years of gaming, and the World v World is very very organized with each and every person pitching in and doing their job. Even when no leaders are out, we seem to get our heads together and really work as a team, something which is lacking in a lot of servers here.
The only problem at the moment is off-peak times being outnumbered and losing the maps, something which im hoping this post will help change as we’re real close to being able to compete in the daytimes.
The top lvl PvE areas are a bit bare right now with it being a new server, but we still manage to take down the dragons and such with small groups (yay for difficulty scaling), but the lower zones have a lot of people coming through them, even overflows.
Overall, if your guild is getting frustrated with the queues or not being able to WvW together, get your butts over to Devona’s Rest like we did, this is for sure a server of the future and youll all have a blast being able to actually WvW together on a server who is good at it!

I envy your server. I’ve waited 4+ hours to get into ANY WvW map (all of the borderlands + Eternal Battleground) It’s fairly frustrating, but like you pointed out, it’s kind of a lose-lose for Anet.
They can’t raise pop servers, because some people’s rigs are having trouble dealing with the zergs as it is.
The only idea that I’ve heard that might work is for them to add another WvW map similar to the Eternal Battlegrounds, but that would take months to create and implement.
I can’t really think of a quick solution that would fix the queue issue.
Dragonbrand Queue times during prime time vary from 30 minutes to 2.5 hours. Worse yet, they are clearly not FiFO.
I’ve already had a number of guild members say, " Email me when it’s ‘fixed’ and let me know when we are able to play together. I am not going to sit around for hours waiting to play with my friends. ". I expect a lot more of my team to give up shortly if the situation doesn’t improve.
WvW is, to my team, the centerpiece of this product. The queues today are a first order problem for both the game, our server and the buisness model.
I would like to see an acknowledgment of this issue as a priority for the developer.
Waiting for their customers to ‘consume less of our services’ is not a winning product strategy. Waiting to go on the ride is not the fun part of the theme park experience.

perhaps you can change server (if the time is ridiculous of like hours at a time), or just wait it out it will decline for most servers.
I would agree with the queues being too long.
WvWvW was one of the primary reasons I purchased Guild Wars 2.
Now, I’m having loads of fun with most of the PvE (buggy Orr zones notwitsthanding, and the pretty brutal grind for mats for crafting), but my queue time can vary from 1 hour to 4 hours.
I usually don’t have 4 hours to play at one time (only weekends).
So I tend to simply not queue for WvWvW at all.
It also doesn’t seem to allow you to queue for ANY zone in WvWvW. Most nights through the week I don’t really care which zone I’m in – it’s only weekends that I care – so I’d like to get into the first available one.
I moved to Devona’s Rest
We are outnumbered each night in WvW
instant queues are nice but it is not to fun be frustrated each evening.
Better to join a server that has a small queue, so you are not outgunned 24/7
I would accept ‘overflow’ Eternal bgs where I am playing but Q’ed for the REAL EB. Overflows don’t contribute to the scoreboard. ‘Join friend’ should allow us to play together.
There’s plenty of servers without queues.
Stop QQing/queuing and start transferring!

Id love to know where youve been playing, as the 4 days weve been here has been very competitive, we even ran the whole map to our control 2 nights ago and got a very close victory in the overall scoring.
Now thats a great feeling being the underdog and winning, and the server will only get better with more transfers.
By all means go to the likes of Darkhaven who are all wussies and run away from every fight, sure they got numbers and short queues but youre gonna get rolled every day because its a pve server hence the short queues. We tried it for 2 days, terrible. Much much better on Devona’s.

I do agree with it being a big problem… but TBH can’t really think of how could they solve it.
As someone mentioned it isn’t as simple as increasing cap on each map, since people are already having troubles with performance with the way they are right now, increading caps would just mean increasing those problems as well.
Implementing overflow for WvW wouldn’t work either, since it would just add a whole lot of different problems. To name a few… how would you deal with structures captured in overflow? do they give points as well? what happens to those structures (and points) during off peak hours, does the overflow just dissapears, or stays there empty providing points but with structures unable to be captured (since not enough people could go to overflow)? What would prevent an organized server with just flooding WvW with people (even if they’re AFK) just so an overflow is created allowing them to send a team to capture everything without opposition?.
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

Higher levels should get to be put ahead of lower level players in the que. 3 reasons….. if you took the time to level up and should be rewarded, higher level characters are more effective and help their server more. and if your level 80 thats basically the endgame for you with not much else to do

It’s very simple to understand why queues are long. WvWvW is FULL!! Can you believe that, SOOOO many people want to play WvW and it’s FULL??
Don’t want a queue? Join in when there is a restart.

You do get rewarded for leveling up to 80.
yes higher level characters are more effective but it doesn’t mean the person is better skill wise they may just spam auto attack being level 80 doesn’t mean your better than anyone who isn’t a level 80, and it would make the queue for none level 80’s even longer to the point they might never get in the match.

Welcome to beta guys!
I love metric driven design.
I get that Anet is awesome. They have made an awesome product.
Some of you guys don’t acknowledge the problem, thats ok. Lets see the data.
If transfers is the answer thenTransparency is the first step is resolution: Anet needs to publish the Queue times per server ( Avg ) so we can make an informed decision about where we can go.
If Queue times are part of the game to stay ( sad face ) then we need to know average Q time which roughly predicts when we can expect to get in.
If FiFo is the intended workflow to joining WvW queues, then we I’d like see acknowledged of the defect which is causing a great deal of volatility in queue times.
If think transfers are the right solution, please post where you transfered to so we can come join you.

We don’t need so many posts on the topic. I am sure ArenaNet gets it by now. I am willing to bet they already have more PVP oriented maps in the works to help give players more ways to participate.
Keep in mind Arenanet has their eyes on the statistics of every part of the game. For all we know the PVP population is dynamic depending on how many people are queued per side.
Give them a chance. Keep the WvW forum posts to good constructive posts.
There’s honestly not much you can offer if you don’t really get into WvW very much due to long queue times.
Also, while I’m sure ArenaNet has plans for WvW with regards to queue times, I’d love to hear what they are. I know that, in time, the queues will drop due to player falloff.
I just hope I’m not one of those that “falls off” due to long queue times never allowing me to WvW.
No news and no change in queue times WILL lead to people losing interest (while TOR shows that way too many servers will lead to dead servers once players start falling off).
