Gandara [EU]
We need a new maychup system.
a few months ago…..
“Hey Anet can you please add some variety to the match up system. These balanced matches are getting stale and boring” said many people many times.
And guess what? They changed it.

You can have unbalanced variety or you can have stale, not both.

the funniest part is that the new matchups are 10 times more boring than before
I don’t mind the nightcapping; after all, it’s not against the rules or anything. They have a larger presence at night – fine. What I do mind, however, is a T1 server being in the same match with T4 ones, which means they have a much larger presence at all times, not just during the night. A lot of people simply don’t bother with WvW this week as a result – really healthy for the game.
This is fun, though: night capping Vizunah Square way. The time is 3:25AM GMT.
4 Alpha + 4 Omega golems, 40+ invaders, around 10 defenders.
jesus i wasn’t here for all the complaining about stale boring matchups every week….why the hell did everyone complain?? this random matchup crap is terrible. That being said CD’s matchup this week is EPIC! lol. Lucky rng roll i guess.

^ I kind of found that the old method was more fun, it was more personal.
TLDR: Match-ups will only improve when the imbalance between servers is reduced.
It doesn’t matter how you shuffle the servers, the difference in WvW effectiveness between servers is too great to produce good match-ups.
The best match-up system was the tier system that matched adjacent servers on the ladder. However, the ladder was so static that those match-ups became repetitive.
The problem is that there is too much variation in the WvW effectiveness of servers (i.e. the ladder is too steep), with the following consequences:
- Match-ups rarely produce a change in position of a server.
(This is because the WvW effectiveness of a server rarely changes enough to alter its position on the ladder. The exception to this is when WvW heavy guilds deliberately stack or leave a server – which only shows that stacking by dedicated WvW players is the biggest influence on server effectiveness.) - Match-ups that span more than three rungs of the ladder become blow-outs – this discourages WvW participation on the weaker servers further exaggerating the match-up imbalance.
Anet seem to be hoping the new League rewards will be the incentive that starts to level out the servers. Unfortunately, Anet have announced rewards that will increase the effectiveness of winning servers and in doing so further exaggerate the gaps between rungs on the ladder. This seems destined to aggravate the problem of bad match-ups rather than help it (the only exception is likely to be where dedicated WvW guilds have chosen to stack on a different server.)
For there to be any hope of good and varied match-ups the imbalances between servers need to be reduced. Fortunately, transfers by WvW player have shown that it is possible to purposefully alter the WvW effectiveness of servers, so Anet just need to encourages transfers that reduce the WvW differences between servers, which will in turn improve the quality of match-ups.

As for the Canadian server, you should be bilingual as English is our native language. Also do what the Aussie’s did, claim X server as the unofficial Quebec server.
Stop about Canadian, there are non existant in our server, very few on vizunah. More if you (= international server) cry about a dozen Canadian please recruit more Russian/USA guilds (guilds that nearly never transfer to national server) , i heard that 40+ transfering from US ladder into EU ladder is healthy.
Btw, there is the “Golem Thunder” event (http://forums.jeuxonline.info/showthread.php?t=1234929 ) on vizunah to wake up people (mostly pve pop) before leagues, that’s why they hit this hard.
I found in random MU more fun than in Tier MU, even if we got crap matchups we also encountered servers like Gandara or Barush i loved.

^ This. That’s the main problem that urgently needs to be addressed.
‘Rewarding’ the better server is a bad idea. Especially since ‘better’ in WvW terms means: ‘has more people online than the other servers and thus can hold more lands’. So it’s mostly not about skill (not talking about the tier 1 servers), but about numbers of active WvW people.
Additionally, the outmanned buff should be critically revisited, since it does not offer any ‘incentive’ for players to assault map objectives like towers (you get killed by a big zerg anyway, as is happening now in the match up mentioned in the OP). Or it could be the other way around, that the ‘opposing’ army gets an overmanned buff, where they receive a reduction in all stats! That would be more beneficial!
