I’ve been wondering, in the first months, were the jumping puzzles in WvWvW also as camped as they are these days? Since I remember comments in those days “It’s easy to get badges, 5 characters and do JPs” in legendary price threads in those days, and it doesn’t really seem to be such an option these days.

A better question would be, have people always went to the jumping puzzle rather than help their team ?

Yes and no – I’ve noticed some weeks are better than others. Seems to me like it was a little more rare to be camped at the JPs “back in the day”, but even these days, sometimes you can get through easy-peasy. I personally believe it depends on the server you are on, and the servers you fight. Some servers seems to be more aggressive, so you know when you’re fighting them, you probably don’t have a chance to complete the puzzle unless you have backup.

Bad blood is coming between servers more now, so yeah, it’s probably getting camped more often if you’re fighting a certain server.

Going to the JP for some people is helping your team – You get 2 blueprints, a couple of items you can sell to get a bit of cash to help pay for building upgrades and more Badges of Honour than several hours of fighting will often get you (The drop rate is really variable – I have gone 10 straight kills recently without a drop and then 5 off the next 3). The Badges will eventually help your team whether they are used to purchase better items for the character or more blueprints.

You and I both know that 3/4 of the people that sit around in those jumping puzzles do not actively participate in WvW.

Given that there were far more people playing WvW then, yep. You’d get over 5 camping almost each one with siege weapons pretty much 24/7. Throw the orbs on top of that, if another server had all three, you didn’t go near those things.

There were always some people camping there since launch but obviously that increased because there’s a large chunk of the playerbase that first spent some more time in PvE and / or sPvP than WvW.

I don’t have a problem with the current implementation of the JP as it offers small scale pvp with a lot of terrain to play with to your advantage in an open’ish environment.
But seeing how many folks complain about it, an idea would be to make the JP a completely separate map that doesn’t count towards the WvW population cap but still has a connection to it like the current portals for those that like both. And of course a separate queue.
