Were you a pug?
Oh yes, and I was proud of it

Yes and I almost always play with pugs. There is no difference in skill with anyone else in pve. If you meant for wvw, there is no difference either. All you do is follow the zerg brainlessly.
speak for yourself, I do other things in WvW
Chronomancy works, I am proof of it. Now stop asking me questions. Time must be preserved!

This is the WvW subforum.

Believe that if it makes you comfortable.
Well I am still a pug and I lead my guild. >.>
On HoD I was back at release.
Now I mainly command “pugs” or “militia” of whatever you want to call them. Herding cats is what I call it. My people.
Skritt Happens
nope because when I could be considered a pug everyone wouldve been a pug, thus there were no pugs..

You sir, are incorrect. Twenty randoms vs. 20 of guild group (with group composition and synergy builds), guild group will win 98% of the time.
A pug is just someone who’s not running with a guild at the moment.
A lot (all?) guild players will join a pug zerg occasionally, it’s relaxing.
A good commander using TS, followed by a collection of random but skilled players can be every bit as effective as an organised guild group. It might look chaotic, with all the unskilled, uplevelled and newb players milling about and getting themselves killed , but often, there is a core of effective mercenaries in there.
Sadly, not always
I wouldn’t say a pug is a non major guild member, more like someone who has little knowledge of what WvW is and don’t understand what they should or shouldn’t do

PUG = Pick up Group.
A group player not selected on any skill criteria. A volunteer.
It doesn’t mean they are unskilled or a non-major-guild-player or a newb or any of those things.
It just means anybody having a bit of fun.
Used as a term of insult by elitist snobs who probably haven’t a clue what they’re doing but like to pretend they’re better than anyone else.

All my +1’s.
I am a militia commander, and while I am not as consistently as effective as a big guild push, I can command consistently whenever I want, with or without my guild.

There are too many tactics which require coordination + baddies wearing full zerk (free rallies) for pug groups to compete with good guild groups. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t things for pugs to do. Just don’t expect them to perform at the same level. I have respect for pug commanders just because of the frustration they must constantly feel when people do stupid things and mess up an hour long siege lol

Many people start as pug zerglets, and that is fine. In fact I think zergs are a great way for new folks to join and become familiar with WvW.
The issue GW2 has in my opinion, is that because of what the game rewards, how the game is set up, folks are not really gaining in skill and maturing enough to move away from being anything but pugs.
Plenty of pugs are good players, and plenty of “big guilders” are aweful, especially when not in their guild blob.
I played in a big wvw guild and had fun, guild moved and i stayed and now i just play the pug or roam with friends. Still having fun.
Certainly! I mostly roam and will often join up with one or two other roamers even if we’ve never met before. Zerging can be good for some mindless fun at times as well but I find that the most fun is to be had in small groups regardless if it’s premade or not.
I prefer the word militia, which I am. I enjoy sentry duty, and yak escorting, upgrading, and just doing my own thing to help my server. I will zerg to get my daily done, but basically I enjoy doing what I feel is fun atm without being told what to do, where to go, etc.
I play this game to relax and have fun, not to feel like I’m at work with bosses. That being said, I will always answer a call for help to defend on any map. Also not mentioned a lot of pugs/militia donate siege to commanders, which helps tremendously.
For anyone who plays at odd times, pug is the ‘default setting’, simply because we don’t always log in to find a bunch of our guild already zerging around the place. (I don’t even think our while guild could constitute a zerg actually!)
I usually log into WvW alone or with my hubby, and we flip camps or whatever until we find out what urgently needs doing, what the commander’s train of followers is upto and where the juicy action is at.
Usually at some point we will be invited to a group, others we’ve bumped into whilst flipping a camp etc. I’ve had some excellent times running as a bunch of randoms kittneing off the enemy by cutting their supply lines, contesting their waypoints and ninjaing stuff.
I’d say ‘who needs a guild’? But then, I love my guild, I just don’t see them all the time, as they are European and I’m Oceanic. When I CAN run with my guild, I do. But ‘pug’ is never a second-best state of affairs for me.
