Currently my guild is having issues, We go out to WvW but Only having between 8-15 people online on average we don’t really accomplish much on our own, We don’t want to run with the zerg because that;s not our play style However it seems when we deviate from the zerg We end up in a situation where we are heavily outnumbered.
Are there any tactics other smaller guilds are employing out there or any servers where we could go that have small scale skirmishes we can transfer to.
I would recommend joining a server with global voice communications available. It’s a lot easier to get things done by yourself or with a small guild when you can interface with the rest of the server at large. Your guild can get a role assigned and know exactly what you need to do on a WvW map, or if the opportunity arises, you can lead the channel and everyone will be ready to execute your commands if they make sense.
We use a serverwide Mumble setup on Maguuma and it works extremely well. I’ve gone from being a lone wolf to being able to command a queued server thanks to our open communications and cooperative, ego-less server population. It’s pretty incredible to say “All aoe on cannons” and watch them melt in 3 seconds, or to tell two full squad groups to get supply and come back to east keep and you see 10 people x up in chat, disappear, and run back in 5 minutes with enough supply for 2 more catapults. You don’t have to be the leader of a giant alliance to get people to do that on a coordinated server like Maguuma.
If you’re curious to see what it’s like, try switching to Maguuma and asking for the mumble information in /team.
Uh. There is plenty of things small scale groups can do.
First thing you need to know is when to fight and when to flee. How to read a situation and react properly. Mobility builds on all your members so you can quickly escape situations that might not be favorable. Also proper defensive siege placement can create situations where 15 people can hold off much larger forces.
You can do these things in any server, but you gotta take the time to learn, and while you learn you will probably get swamped by ‘zergs’ quite often.

Yaks doesn’t even have one WvW focused guild much larger than what you say and we stay competitive in our bracket. As zastari said, use voice communication but i’d like to add..
The thing that we do that makes us work is, while we have no mega guilds with 100+ people or really even 50+ people WvWing at once.. we have a lot of smaller guilds in constant communication. that helps a ton!

Small groups can easily hit dolyaks, sentries, quaggans, and supply camps. Just watch what is happening around you and have an exit plan. Hitting dolyaks may not seem like a big help for your team, but when the other team can’t get supplies into a keep, it’s difficult for them to build their defenses. A supply starved tower/keep/castle is much easier to take.
A group of 15 people can take keeps by themselves. Just got to know when and where to attack. Hell, I was in a group of about 5 that set up siege to take out enemy siege in strange areas that allowed the enemy to pummel our main base. That ensured that they couldn’t take our keep and eventually lead us to taking theirs

If you want geat small scale WvW, come to Kaineng, or Devonas Rest, the 2 very bottom ranked servers.
Since being on Kaineng for the last 2 and a half weeks… its been the best fights ive had in the whole time i been playing gw2 so far

A 15 man squad is big enough to harass Zergs, take towers, take supplies, kill sentry’s and kill dollys all in all use your squad to disrupt the lines. This is exactly what our guild does with great success. Guerilla tactics is what you need to do, move as quietly as possible (dont hit sentry’s or dollys until you’ve hit the tower/camp as this tells the enemy where you are on the map) hit the camps fast then move or hold but always have an exit strategy. The job of small groups like ours is simply bug the life out of the enemy Zerg, the longer they are pre occupied with you the more time your Zerg has to reposition and take more towers/keeps.
Communication is vital i suggest you get a TS server and cram everyone in have some fun on the way
We run in a 4-7 man roaming group. We do fine but the big issue is EBG. Just dont go there. Borderlands are much more suitable for small scale stuff.
EBG u take a Vet or a camp and you have to completely vacate the area b4 a much larger force comes in very shorty after. Its just too tightly packed for good escapes/guerilla stuff.
In ruins of surmia we all have only small guilds. And so far I haven’t seen a guild with that many players online in WvW since The Exodus.
Our Small Guilds accomplish a lot, we split up among the BL’s to get points where the russian zerg isn’t anymore.
Just yesterday me and 4 other people (3 of em randoms and not even lvl 80) we took 2 towers, 3 camps and hills in the enemy BL. That was 60 points for our server out of the 240. and we did that with only 5 people.
Also if you wish to check out our RoS, we accept any smalle/medium guilds who are looking to transfer there, even better when they’re US guilds cause we have a gap in our server coverage that is eating us up

Hey we’re also most of the time in a small group sometimes also with friends. We’re covering nearly everything (defend keeps, towers, supply camps; kill/save dolls; attack keeps/towers) and try to communicate with the big raidleads on the borderlands to get our jobs integrate in the overall plan. Sometimes our actions are just to put pressure on our enemies some others are just hidden actions to prepare a keep to get attacked by the main raid. We also attack the main raids of our enemies even if they have double the man power we’ve. Sometimes we can win while using the environment better then the bigger zerg. Sometimes we loose. So there is very much to do what can be better covered in well organized and good coordinated small groups. I think the most effective you can be if you integrate your small group in the communication with the raid lead.
