Guild Wars 2

I’m thinking of leaving Kaineng. The fun part is really feeling like I make a difference, and it’s nice to be able to roam around and take camps. But it can be tough to get sufficient mass to get things done both in WvW and PVE.

I have this vision of a mid-tier server where it’s possible to make a difference, but also where there might be a bit more stability in the wvw guilds.

The alternative seems to be just playing the EotM map. I actually like the map a lot, and I feel like you can find small group fights that are pretty fun there.

I’d love to commit to a great wvw guild, but the reality is the 350+ levels I’ve earned so far probably represent too much time spent in game. So I’m hoping for something that’s fun and competitive while not feeling like a huge commitment.

My guild and I xfer’d to darkhaven a bit ago for smallman/solo roaming. The community is nice if you care about that (We were welcomed by guilds that knew us previously, so our experience my not be yours).

Roaming wise, 3-10 seems to be what you need for EB, as it’s pretty zergy. (I, personally, am a huge fan of the set up of EB so I tend to roam it solo more than I should. Steeper learning curve for when to gtfo, but its fun for me)

1-3 is great for bls.

EoTM is EoTM. I love it so far and if you find you do too, there’s really no reason to transfer.

Mag has a lot of roamers and small scale guilds, but personally if I were to transfer back up into that tier I’d rather transfer to a server near it to fight them.

FC has a great smallscale community with Main/Yarr, fun group to fight against, don’t know how much they’ve been enjoying roaming recently though.

ET was nice for roaming if you don’t mind solitude.

With guesting to other servers for major PVE bosses and EotM, I don’t feel urgent about making a decision. So I have to give Anet credit for putting in those options.

I would wait until EotM settles in for a few weeks before giving this much thought. Virtually all the tier 1 small group / solos have migrated to that map for now , and I imagine it’s not too much different further down. At the moment you’re not going see much past solo flipping camps, and you can do that on any server.

BP has a strong roamer community with lots of skill groups and skirmish teams. BP has also somehow managed to stay together for a long time compared to some other servers. Some complain on the server that we don’t coordinate our guild groups well but IMO that is a symptom of a strong roamer/small guild population.

If you are looking for something higher up, Maguuma has been a pleasant surprise this week. They do have some big zergs but they also boast some very strong roaming groups and skirmish teams. Not sure of their internal structure but after a few days of fighting them I have come away impressed.

If you like solo roaming don’t go above t6. I have accounts in both kaineng and jq and I spend most of my time playing in kaineng. I find the t1 wvw very boring. Fights are usually roll or get rolled and there isn’t really a sense of you committing anything as an individual player.

Hop on over the darkhaven or NSP. They have a bunch of nice roamers and there is quite a bit of roaming in your competition. I’m on FC and I’d like to see a bit more competition as far as roaming goes. The nice thing is that we are all going to fight each other a ton in the coming weeks so you shouldn’t lack roamers to fight with or against.

Don’t move to some silly high tier. That isn’t roaming!

agreed on DH/NSP for great roaming, FC… well, they have some roaming etiquette issues

Not gonna plug a specific server, but given the blobs that occur I’d shoot for a stable T5 server, maybe T4. On CD we can do pretty much any Wv3 activity given certain time constraints… there are blobs if I want to k-train, I can roam solo or in a havoc group, and a decent amount of small group action.

If we pop into T4 next week I’m not sure what will happen, we’ve been out-zerged recently fighting the current T4 matchup servers.

I’m not sure what’s up with HoD and Ebay as they’ve put up good fights in the past.

Move to EU. Any server at T4 and down to T7 will be great for roaming. Be it solo or group.
Upsides of playing in EU as NA player;
When you play, only a few servers have night-blobs, so the chances of you being steamrolled by 20+ is low.
People don’t hate on professions as much as NA does. Even rangers are accepted into serious guilds.
According to a few NA players that moved to EU; There is WAY WAY less verbal abuse in TS on EU servers then TS servers belonging to NA.
For some reason, there is a lot of females playing GW2 in EU, totally beside the point, or is it.

Downside playing in EU as NA;
During 3 way SM blobfests you can multiply your skill-lag by 2.5
East coast US has about 0.5 sec pinglag during 30v30 encounters. It is manageable according to those i play with.
West coast US is about 1.2 sec pinglag during 30v30 encounters. So joining anything from T5 and up will give you problems in EU Primetime (which for west coast would be 11am-3pm, and for east coast it will be between 2pm and 6pm)

I’m biased but I highly recommend t6/7 servers. Simply put, t6/7 are the most interesting tiers in the game, with matches usually being fairly close and servers constantly fluctuating. It’s not a complete dead experience like t8 would be, but not a blobfest like t4 and up. You can try t5 but that doesn’t look particularly balanced to me right now.

Of course I’ll recommend Darkhaven, but FC/NSP/GoM/AR are also servers that I recommend. If you’re looking for roaming I’d honestly recommend Dh or FC. FC probably has the best large roaming guilds (main/yarr) in bronze. But, if you’re on their server, how can you fight them? ; D

Do you want to fight good roamers or roflstomp lost uplvls?

You can roam successfully even in T2, prob not T1, but prepare to be swarmed whenever you stick around in one place for too long.

In T1/2 ie BG/JQ/SOR/TC/SOS/FA and potentially MAGS you’re liable to be blobbed down quite abit in the future so there’s that, if you are want smaller scale fights more consistently, only the lower tiers suffice.

If you are a true roamer you want to better yourself, and have some good fights, regardless of PPT/matchups etc.

I have had better fights in T3 then I ever did in T6-T8. Blobs are more easily tracked on higher tiers, players are generally better (read: players = roamers), I would never transfer below T4. I would rather run into players rather than roam for 1hr on a BL and see 3-4 people and a zerg, or worse be forced to roam in EB just to fight someone. T6-8 is decent on NA prime, but outside of that its a ghosttown.

I have played on: ET/SF/NSP/BG/JQ/Mags/RoS

All the people telling you that you will get blobbed on T4 and up either:

A. Haven’t played there
B. Have no map awareness.

I have NEVER been ran over by any more blobs on higher tiers than lower, in fact, just as I said above, I find its easier to avoid blobs on higher tiers because they pop sword on every ambient thing they run across…On lower tiers you might round a corner and run into a zerg of 20 without a clue they were there.
