Are you looking for your next server?

With the recent change to population calculation, chance are that many players might decide to switch server. Either because their server is full or because they want a transfer to a lost cost (medium) server.

Anyway, no matter what is the reason, one important thing to consider when you transfer (especially if you are moving an entire guild) is to try to balance the timezones on the server your are switching to. It’s not fun to play on an unbalanced server because during some hour you will PvDoor without opposition and during other hours you will get spawned camp. It’s also not fun to play against an unbalanced server.

Hence, the recommendations will be about balancing the servers. To that end, I made a tool that calculate the rating/rank of each server in each timezone : http://coveragewars2.com

I recommend T3 servers, or T4.

Reasons not to go to T1 are largely self explanatory, and playing on NA T2, I honestly just can not recommedn ANY of the current T2 servers in their current state. I do not know about EU , but this goes for the NA servers:

YB – original population is nothing but mass of arrowcarts and runs away from figths, the influx of the stackers is better, but now super blobby, causing us to often leave figths cuz too much blobbiness. Only way to combat is to form blobs of our own which most of us do not enjoy. If you enjoy following a map blob on 1 blu dorrito or sitting in a tower for hours on end on arrowcart, or coming out with new and exciting ways of doing “creeping arrowcarts” then it might be for you, but not otherwise.

SOS – This server is royally screwed up. There is no server community and the commanders don’t even use c-comms anymore. Forget about simoultaneously coordinating and hitting targets on different maps etc. Not even remotely close. There are a lot of good roaming and small WvW guilds who fight most excellent but they are small potatoes and cant get anything done vs the blobs. there are only 2 good size WvW guilds, the good one does not run raids every day and even when they do run, its very short duration, like half of what regular raids do, even on resets. The other big guild has a commander that is literally kittened in the head. A kitten bag of immense proportions, while there are a lot of nice people in that guild, there are also some sycophant “yes men” that make the overall atmosphere and game unplayable while runnign with those guys. on top of that, the GVG guilds hog up space in SOS BL during prime so that BL can not be defended, they basically just sit there in empty space kittenin it and saluting at the sky. They are so incredibly useless they should be jsut removed from WvW.

FA – this server is somewhere between SOS and YB. They are far worse fighters then SOS and will not figth unless they map blob vs a 20-30sih range group. They run away even if you get 30-40. They do have some very good roamers though that kicked my buttt plenty of times, gotta give credit where credits due. So like SOS their small guilds are good, but unlike SOS rest of em are just blobbers. They use siege reasonably, not in stupid ways and proportions like YB. But I still cant recommend it because sooner or later even if you transfer for roaming, you will end up in that blobbiness.

Beware of T3. Though I recommended T3 for current transfers, beware of a very likely future pitfall. With what I outlined above about T2, there is a lot of talk about the GVG guilds all going to T3 and some may have already gone, I’m not sure the details. If that happens, the server with biggest GVG population will be the complete loser because they won’t be able to float and defend during prime time.

Hope that gives some useful insight for anyone on NA looking to transfer.

At the moment of this writing, the most unbalanced server is currently Dragonbrand. They are ranked as high as 11 in SEA timezone and as low as 17 in late NA/EU prime. Dragonbrand is infamous for their SEA guilds (that have never moved?) that carry the entire server and make it very boring for anyone to play against them.

Here is a typical match up against DB. You won’t get any fights from them all they long making it super boring then suddenly between 9 – 12 UTC, there will be blobs of them flipping every single of your fortified structures.

Dragonbrand is actually my current recommandation for transfer.

It might sounds crazy, but every NA players that transfer to DB will make them a bit more balanced making it a better WvW experience for them and for all the servers around them.

DB recently suffered from a mass exodus and are in the process of rebuilding. If you can’t read between the lines, rebuilding means opportunity. Any NA guild that transfer to them would make a big difference and they wouldn’t have to worry about “off hour”.

The bonus? They are currently ranked as medium population wise so it only costs 500 gems!

Sea of Sorrows was full for the longest time solely because of the PVE population that didn’t WvW, and still holds position in T2. As far as a higher tier transfer I can’t think of one with more potential.

SoS is similar to DB for the fact that they are carried by their “off hour” if you speak from a NA player point of view. For SoS it’s their OCX and for DB it’s SEA. The problem with SoS is that they are stuck in tier 2 with the super stack Yak Bend that will make every match up terrible.

Another problem is that they are ranked as very high so it cost 1800 gems instead of 500 gems to transfer to them.

Then, one last thing is that since they are already very high there is a risk that it could become full very soon. What happen if not all your friends were able to get to that server in time?

DB might actually be a good place to go now with the new population changes, and rebuild since they will no longer be hampered by a full status from a large pve population which is one of the reasons they have so many times rollercoastered up and down the tiers and ranks. SoS as well, but t2 might be a little messy right now with the t1 bandwagon going to YB to play politics. I have a friend on Ebay, who loves the roaming scene there, for those who are into that and might want to learn more about Ebay and t4.

Som,e already moved to t3. Some waiting for guild leaders who are on vacatIon. Not knowing the algorithms, these could go full as well if enough move…..

Wow. What a description of the SoS server.

On a server where 75% of your NA guild are GvG guilds, is only normal to not have them using CComs. The interest of a GvG guild by nature is not focused on coordination with any other guilds in map or to work for the week score of the server. They only want open field and GvG fights.

ALL GvG guilds from T2 have moved to T3. SoS has now the chance to improve his NA coordination and use of CComs. To say that ‘This server is royally screwed up’ sounds a bit too hard for me knowing all the people trying to make of SoS a better server for everyone who is or is thinking on moving in to SoS.

I don’t know the WvW server community on FA, YB or any other server in NA. If they are better or worse, you seem to have all the answers on that… One thing I am sure, there is always good people worth knowing on any server.

All GvG guilds have moved to T3. SoS is probably the best server you could transfer to. We have no where but to grow from here. This could be our perfect chance to build and eventually get ourselves in to a T1 spot in the future! If you want to talk about it or have any questions you are always welcome to msg me in game. It’s taken a beating by the full status that we were previously victim to that prevented us from being able to recruit and rebuild our WvW population when guilds/players stopped playing or transferred. We are free of that now and full of hope for the future. Just last night we had multiple people using CComs and others asking how to set them up. As was mentioned before our NA was bolstered largely by GvG guilds which are known to use their own TS/want to test their mettle solo against groups. That mentality is changing. Last night we had three tags all working together on a map (home BL). SoS would be the perfect place for NA players to look to come right now. All are welcome. SoS is not ‘Royally Screwed Up" – they’ve just been ‘royally screwed over’ by the previously constant FULL status that plagued the server for some time, the population has been consistently lower than the current other T2 servers, as SoS has a majority of the ‘population’ that are PvE players. That has been currently rectified, and the doors to the server are now OPEN!

As Boa has stated – The population previous was primarily GvG oriented guilds, and that population has left the server recently. This, in my opinion, makes SoS an excellent server to consider at this time, especially with the other 5 servers between T1/T2 now locked with FULL status that previously plagued SoS for a very long time. Too long. SoS Community is small, and fairly close-knit these days, with a LOT of potential as it comes to growth – the current WvW players still on SoS are an excellent example of great community – tags working together, ccoms being used now, as well as a lot more freedom in the TS3 that is provided than I’ve seen in a lot of other communities.

SoS is a server that shouldn’t be ruled out for people looking for a community-oriented place to call ‘home’ on GW2.

Some transfer assistance is also available, thanks to the fun raffles and community events that are a regular thing here on SoS!

Actually the server community is great. Why do you think that the people who left come back and chat with the sos’rs. Because they are a great group. There were some toxic people that left ( thank god). And the more recent history were people who found it not fun to fight the super stacked yaks and didn’t have relief in sight with the full status.

Yea it doesn’t seem very objective, plus the OP wasn’t even asking a question. Also, trash talking other servers to that extent is meant for another place.
