Q:
What are current "international" servers?
A:
Hey,
In EU we have Desolation as the only “international” server that i know (lots of EU playing during 1 part of the day, lots of NA playing the other part).
My question is: how many servers like this exist? Is Desolation the only “international” server in EU league?
TIA
PS: no trolling/flaming, if you want to discuss about night capping, do it somewhere else!
I think “International” Servers are far more prevalent on NA realms than EU realms.. that being said
Stormbluff Isle = tons of coverage pretty much all throughout the day specially now that they are considered the #1 NA server. Their foundation is War Machine a Korean guild.
Sea of Sorrows = tons of Oceanics fortified by a Dragonband Alliance and ex-HoD TA forces such as PRX moving there
Jade Quarry = let’s be honest, to be Tier 1 you need to be able to field numbers in all hours of the day regardless of weak zones. That is why you’re Tier 1. JQ isn’t as strong in international presence as SBI but rank up there as having perhaps the 2nd greatest presence on NA realms
Blackgate = DEYS EU Alliance. Perhaps the greatest EU presence of any NA realm plus they have tremendous SEA (Southeast Asian) presence in THAI, etc
that’s pretty much it.. the main thing you have to know is the way wuvwuv works
you win with numbers and coverage. period.
so start with Tier 1 servers. there is a reason they ARE Tier 1!
the way NA realms work and specifically Tier 1 works is this..
all things being equal, off-hour coverage determines your wuvwuv performance
that’s pretty much it
Desolation for EU, Sea of Sorrows for US
I know there’s been a lot of complaining about Desolation on the EU ladder. Just wait till Sea of Sorrows cracks tier 1 on the US ladder when JQ/SBI realize they are going to be outnumbered 5-1 during Oceanic prime.

I’d imagine most of the non-language specific servers are international, as they gather people from all the countries whose population does not speak FR/DE/ES.
If you mean which EU servers have a non-EU presence, I’m guessing Blacktide is the other obvious candidate due to its significant Russian presence (for some weird reason RU is not considered part of EU by ArenaNet, as you can see from this page listing the geographic designation of all countries, just click on “Europe” “North America” and “Other” at the bottom of the page to expand the list).

Well Russia isn’t fully in Europe so they’re right about that.
Even though most people (~78%) live in the western / central part which is located in Europe, 75% of the total Russian territory lies in Asia. Therefor it definitely falls into the category “other”. As for the datacenter to connect to, probably EU is the best one.
@OP: I think all servers have some intercontinental presence (except maybe the language tagged ones), but it’s not all that noticable on all of them. The only one really noticable is Desolation. But I imagine you’ll see that changing as folks on other servers get furstrated too and Deso is full now. (from my server FS a lot of guilds transferred over to Deso to have that advantage but since it’s full now the left over WvW guilds can’t take the easy way out anymore and have to organise 24/7 presence themselves if they so desire it).
If you want to own at night on eu servers you join sp of fr.
America have no servers for spanish or french speaking players.
In the EU all servers are almost completely EU except for Desolation. Desolation has huge international presence and is the only ‘international’ server in Europe right now.
I am American and play on an international EU server. Desoloation is NOT the onyl international server, there is alot of international servers. To name a few: Desolation, Blacktide, Far Shiverpeaks, Seafarer’s rest.
All these server chat is spoken in English 90% of the time.

International is not the right word : it’s more a matter of “natural” time zone or ladder migration.
(Almost) every EU server is international.
Not really international is by context international… There is other server on the EU side slated for Germany, French and Spanish. International by defenition is comprised of players from all over.

Thanks for your answers guys and especially CharliePrince!
By “international” i mean with a lot of presence through all the day and night, and not only “multiple countries playing on them”.
My goal is to join a server in tier 1 with full time coverage that play against another full time coverage server, so at least it’s even in terms of people playing on them.
I think i’ll join Blacktide as i’m fearing to have high ping beeing an EU player if I go on NA servers.
