Q:

It appears that there is still some lack of clarity on this subject.

What are some of your observations?

A:

a few of us have done some testing a week or two ago, but i’m not convinced about the results. we built an arrow cart, and watched it for 30 minutes. with no one touching it, it did indeed disappear. however, it was never once fired, which might factor in. the location might also have something to do with it, as we had various pieces of siege set up in a tower, had to go defend another location for a while, and when i went back to the tower, only the trebs were gone. in another instance, someone built an arrow cart, a catapult and a treb off to the side in one of the camps, and went to bed. when they woke up, all three were still there. while it’s possible someone make have come in and ticked them regularly, they were in a very difficult area to even notice. we’ve also had the same pieces of siege sitting in a tower for 3 days, and every time i would go in there to tick them, there was no one around to keep them ticked. and i was only popping every hour or so. then i spent a half hour reading the forums, went back, and only 1 catapult was still left in there.

the lighting does indeed damage siege in the keeps (as well as cannons, as i was walking past one when it got zapped, ultimately destroying the cannon).

an official post on the subject would be fantastic to clear all of this up, because it seems that the experiments are yielding mixed results.

Siege weapons have a despawn timer of 30 minutes. If a player uses a siege weapon, the timer is reset. When the timer reaches 0, the siege weapon is removed from the game

Mark this as the answer.

So they say but the other day someone was using a treb and it vanished while they were using it. There is something else going on sometimes that isn’t mentioned. What that is or what triggers it is unknown.

Once, we had a code build hit us and I lost a treb that was built not 10 minutes earlier when I re-entered. Another time there was a code build and all the arrow carts were still there that had been placed down. Again, can’t pin it to anything.

Has this been proven? For every type of siege? I’ve had people swear to me that there is no despawn timer, and the rumor is caused by quaggan lightning and sneaky players. Others swear there is.

I mean, has someone sat beside a piece of siege and watched it for 30mins?

In an adjacent thread it was mentioned that arrow carts never despawn but rams do. And I’ve observed large numbers of arrow carts for extended periods where I doubt someone was “touching” them periodically.

Has anyone else observed that some siege does not despawn after 30 minutes of inactivity?

I put a ballista on an area next to me with a treb, I’m sure that I didn’t refresh it every 30m. It’s hard anyway to refresh those because you need a target. Anyway I returned to the same battleground after sleep and that ballista was still there. It was on a cliff so it’s not likely that it was in a running view of other players to play with it.

Thanks psirca.

Clearly there remains a bit more to this puzzle to be uncovered despite the definition on the wiki. And it is possible that there is a mechanic in the mix that is more complicated than we expected, and it may depend on the type of siege.

Any other observations will be helpful of course…

Well, I have a mission today. I"m going to build an AC(to start with) and sit beside it for 30mins. Time that should be devoted to school has now been re-allocated to sitting down.

I may be wrong about this, buy my understanding was to reset a despawn timer all you need to do is type F to occupy the weapon. But this is part of the original question.

It might be but the superstition in us since we don’t know the real mechanics might tempt me to try to use things if I am near them because nothing has been seen that suggests that it makes them go away.

Trebs definitely do.
Arrow carts and Balistas I very much doubt.

It would be nice to have an official post on the subject… :P

The only siege I’ve seen “disappear” abruptly are Trebs. We were taking Veloka and we placed a couple catapults to tear down the rear Veloka wall. Once we had the tower, we then put Trebs on the cliff next to it (where the vista is) to bombard Overlook. At the same time we built Arrow Carts and Ballista around Veloka at various points (Cliff, Walls, behind the walls, lord chamber, etc.) We had users on the Trebs until we took the gate down. After some time, the Trebs disappeared (there is no way they could have been attacked), but everything else – Cats, AC, Ballistas, they were all there.

It could also stand for reason that there are various timers on each of the siege types and could also be affected by a “siege per square footage” calculation.
