What class do you enjoy most in world vs world?
I enjoy Thief hands down.
Simply for its ability to out run zergs and able to escape easily.
thieves
you can go invisible and spam your most bursty move.. its almost like playing with gm commands lol
no seriously, they are annoying
Mesmer, its the only character I play but I doubt I’d enjoy anything more.
I play a glass cannon build but since I’m full exotics I can still withstand some punishment too.
Chasing down cowards that try to run from me and slamming a berserker on them and crippling them and then just pouncing on them until they die! Especially those guardians with major high health, always good to see a tank trying to flee when you know they’d be better to stand and fight since you have no real HP yourself xD
Plus its great fun when storming a keep and all those people standing on the walls thinking they’re invincible get hit by a berserker and don’t know what’s happening to them!
I think just the berserker aspect in general wins it for me, when we’re being chased away by a mega zerg I tend to stop and wait for our members that are falling behind and throw a berserker into the enemy crowd to slow them down and then drop the invisibility skills to help my team members get away enough to regroup.
Most classes stick with one weapon combo and rarely change in WvW, I tend to switch up weapons for there various skills and effects and combo fields, my build doesn’t really effect my weapon choice, I just go with whatever I think is going to be most effective in certain situations which I doubt any other classes do, they just go for highest damage output.
Thief’s aren’t a real class, they’re just a bunch of people who don’t want to use any skill so they go for dagger builds with the stealth that’s currently bugged and makes them invisible for longer than it should! I’ll be glad to see the culling fixed so they become visible when they should, it will soon stop them thinking they are indestructible!
Gandara
Engineer
I’ve played them all, and I focus on WvW more than anything else in this game.
Every single profession brings something very important to WvW. There is no profession that I could point to and say… “they are the worst for WvW”.
All that being said, in my mind no profession even comes close to what the Engineer can bring to the table.
Grenade Kit – GTAoE, Spammable, Condition & Control, super useful for keeping an offensive siege force safe from attackers on the walls
Flamethrower – The most amazing way to protect a Gate that I have ever seen. In addition, it even locates invisible zergs and is an excellent Mesmer sweeping weapon. It rocks for large group fights, and has enough control to punish small group fights that don’t focus and kill you off quickly.
Speedy Kits – Permanent swiftness for the cost of a 10 point trait. No specific weapon or utility skill wasted. No cooldowns burned. Just freakin’ fast. When I run with a zerg, I almost always have more than 1 full minute of swiftness built up at all times. A lot of times we will finish rolling over a camp or something and I still have 30 seconds left, which quickly builds back up to 1m. (cant see any duration higher than 1m on this so I dunno how big it actually gets)
These are the three main reasons, but there are so many more I could write a short book on the subject. For example, Grenades & Flamethrower both scale well with Power alone, which let’s me pursue Power/Toughness/Vitality gear and be pretty tough. (to be fair, my engineer is not level 80 so I am only basing this last piece on my observations & research)
Engineer is the absolute best WvW profession, as long as there is a healthy mix of other professions involved. It’s just amazing in WvW… there is a solution to every common problem.
November 15, 2012 – The day a dream died.
Thief because I can just run if things get sticky. I can run in harass and pop away with shadow return or simply just outrun a zerg with the shortbow.
Warrior is fun too with the ability to run in, crush an unsuspecting squishy thats on their front lines and just run back to safety.
Fighting mesmers on either makes me angry though. They can always escape if they like but can hunt you down easily. Seems they have no weakness.
Ranger; I can survive and gank well and be an effective part of any force. On top of that I can take out those pesky thiefs and stop them from running with the multitude of knockbacks, cripples and chills I have.
I’ve been playing for only about a week and a half, and I’ve only been able to level a ranger to 18, and a thief to 24. I started playing sPvP a few days ago with the thief and absolutely loved it, but it was such a small area it was mainly a spam fest of my keys.
I played WvW last night with my thief and I was amazed on how fun it was. It involved more skill of me in the game, more thinking, and more quick judgement calls that made it a very involving class. Spamming for me in WvW = death.
From what I played last night I enjoyed the in and out strikes and the fact I was a strong keep defender with my poison arrows aoe. I didn’t do a huge amount of up close fighting, but from what I was doing, I just went in for quick in and out strikes to add effects to players and made it difficult for their team to heal and revive with the poison aoe’s
I like my defensively traited rifle and sword/warhorn condition warrior. People claim it sucks but I have so much success with it. Guess that is why I like it. Nothing like killing people with a kitten class.
A Bunker Build Guardian surrounded by 5 other Bunker build Guardian make your warband nigh unkillable.
It is very satisfying.
What ever class you pick spec it to support your group.

Hammer Warrior, I cannot tell you how many times I’ve single handedly broke enemy lines with my knockbacks and “Death from Above” trait to defend against gate sieges.
As a commander I love taking point of the army and making the opposing forces scatter when we engage them, the X factor imo.

Mesmers are thieves, just with a spammable thieves guild.
Warrior. It’s not the best at anything, but it does EVERYTHING.
I run a rifle build that pierces and hits like a truck. Anytime the enemy clumps up, I’m throwing down 2-pieces/3-pieces like it’s Popeyes. If someone gets close, I’ve got a greatsword waiting, either for hb or to haul kitten out of there.
But by far, my favorite part about playing Warrior is to keep an open inventory screen (minimized so it doesn’t take up too much real estate) and switch weapons constantly out of combat. Obviously, there’s sword/warhorn for extreme mobility. If we’re attacking something with pesky eles/archers/siege defense, I get the longbow for some pretty ridiculous burn damage. For ganking a small group, there’s axe/shield (or mace/mace). For ground defense and choke points, there’s hammer. And so on.
There’s just so many fun combos, this class never gets old. The only real con is that we have to craft/buy so many more exotics than everyone else if we want to max out our effectiveness. Definitely, DEFINITELY invest in a safe box or invisible bag so that you don’t accidentally sell your weapon stash to a vendor.
Ranger. 1500 range with longbow, good farming badges.
I’m having great fun with the engineer too. The grenades are great, just takes some practice to lob them constantly, without auto-attack.
Great thread!
I have 4 80s:
Ranger – the best all around. Can solo things. Fast. Survivable. Long range. Good tagging.
Ele – So fast. Tagging machine. Good range. Good damage. Might die to an angry deer.
Mesmer – Lots of big flashy skills. The satisfaction of annoying my enemies. Defense through deception. Slow. Cannot tag players. Cannot kill a dolyak.
Guardian – awesome class when everyone is pushing. Can be very frustrating due to lack of range. Very good at killing NPCs.
