What class does noticeable damage in zerg ?
Necromancers and elementalists deal massive damage to zergs =D
Thanks and is there a noticeable difference between necro and elem damage ? or are they both doing equivalent aoe damage ?
I’d suspect the Elementalist has bigger spike while the Necro’s is done over time (and more annoying).
I play an Elementalist in WvW and my meteor does roughly 5k-9K per meteor which of course hit’s a lot of targets travelling through it. I remember downing a large group who just broke through hills inner gate; I aimed my meteor on the ramp, they ran through it and about 15 of them died for their efforts lol.

No ele does more damage over time while necro is more spike damage.
The only time ele really spikes is dropping meteor shower. Most of the aoe damage skills (number 2 skills) are on short cooldowns.
Necros have wells that come up every 30-40 seconds that have really short casting times. Very good for spike damage on bombs.
For melee warriors do best damage because of their high health pool they can have high armor health and damage all at the same time. Compared to guardians that need to run full pvt to be on the same toughness level as warriors.

Necro and Elementalist are both good choices. I’ve played both in WvW, in small group and in zergs. My guild swat team in S1 was 2 Necros and 2 Elementalists and were quite able to get bags in zergs as well as taking towers and keeps with just four of us in the same amount of time as the zerg on the other side of the map.
Depends on your preferred playstyle and build.
Depending on spec, Necro can also provide protection and healing wells. Also fears (great on ramparts). And has strong melee ability (dagger/dagger, dagger/warhorn).
Elementalist also has cc, and again depending on spec, good healing. A well placed meteor shower is an effective deterrent as well as bag collector (field/ramparts) And with the right build/gear (not even bunker build), is a lot of fun to use up against thiefs who think they can 1-2 shot you
The PvP lobby in the Mists with all the targeting dummies is a great place to go experiement (insta 80) with profession as well as builds.
If you enjoy playing a caster, you can’t really go wrong with either.
PS: The important thing is to find the one that works best for you. You will be more effective that way.

The elementalist will give you the pleasure of crushing a zerg if you can keep them still.
Glass longbow rangers can auto attack for over 4k crits at 1500 range against heavies and are a huge pain on a normally sustainable character. Glass staff eles come close but are a lot more aoe oriented. Power necro wells can do a lot but usually only on rez piles or choke points, otherwise everyone moves out of them. Most condi specs are pretty easily negated by cleanses in zergs and epidemic can be a huge pain to land sometimes.

I agree with this. Asking others opinion it’s not bad, but never follow somebody’s build and never try to copy what they do – instead learn from each, and build something that fits you and the situations where you use them most. Be open, and always fine tune your build and the way you play – both. Always adapt, never cry about anything being “overpowered”. There is no one meta solution that rules all. Use the wiki and read everything possible about every detail of your class, and try out all, before reaching any temporary conclusions (keep it always “temporary”, open to improve it). Never just accept somebody’s advice, because all that depends on your limits and abilities a lot. Also on what you enjoy, you alone. This is not just GW2 related, it’s the basic of becoming better in anything. Necro and Ele, for example, each can give combinations that the other can’t – with upside and downside included to choosing one or the other. Find the one that fits you better (other classes included).

Without a doubt ele is the best for zerg damage. You just need to be very careful to avoid the hammer train.
DS power necro has the best spike Aoe dmg in the game, combined with proper use of wells and traited for increased crit. You will get wrecked. Try with the transfusion trait for Aoe heals and GG. Eles are slow casters and more effective for dmg over time.
Hey thanks for all the answers, I created an elem and a necro and will try them for like a week in spvp to see how I like the gameplay of each class before leveling one.
Atm I must say that I prefer necro gameplay but elem meteor are pretty impressive when people are fighting to cap points, it’s like you can down the whole team with that single skill damage if damages remain that high in wvw I guess it could really hurt a zerg if aimed properly.
Ele’s frost bow and meteor storm each falling object hits up to 5 so these ability brake the 5 target aoe cap. All line skills and walk though effects also brakes the 5 target aoe cap. So something like necro fear wall will hit every one who run though it or trys to lol.

With the right setup (signets + celestial or zerker) a rangers LB AA piercing shot can hit multiple targets for more then 7k
I’d still argue, due to spammability, that engi nades and especially the bombs, make it to this list. These skills, especially the toolbelt bomb does insane damage.
Currently @ some T1 server in EU
elementalist meteor swarm is the best anti zerg/zerging ability in game.
necromancers can also pump out HUGE damage in zerg fights.
anything with Arrow Cart mastery maxed out.
Try a zerker staff ele, you’ll have enormous AOE damage, and AOE CC.
