1. Build catapult inside, facing gate. This is used to destroy rams and randomly scatter the zerg.
2. Build ballista/catapult on top of supply shed (or similar high ground), used to bombard the zerg.
3. Build arrow cart so that it is in range of the gate, 2 if you really want to be sure.
4. Build ballista, preferably way back, so that it is positioned to shoot through the gate.
(I hope you have enough supply)
With this setup, the gate should not fall until enemies build ranged siege, several golems, or a treb, because rams will be destroyed by your cats and ballistas.
When the gate finally falls, arrow cart(s) alternate cripple, and ballistas go to town. I once defended a keep after the gate went down with a similar setup (2 arrow carts, 1 cat, 1 ballista) with 10 defenders vs a 50+ zerg. The zerg ran through the gap…and every single one died within 60 seconds. Between the AoEs from players and siege weapons the zerg didn’t even have a chance.
If all else fails, hope your counter zerg arrives in time. You did call for help as soon as you spotted the zerg, right?

^ if you have no supply, run away
btw if you’re putting catapults behind the door iBerserker can hit it. Possible to hit the ones on top of the supply roof also.
I don’t know about 5v30, but in a 2v30 defense, the solution started with suppressing fire from a cannon coupled with a ballista targeting the most aggressive attackers, evolved to coordinated dual-ballista strikes to finish off opponents, and finally an arrow cart/ballista-covered sortie by a guardian to finish the rout (the other defender swapped between the cart and ballista as appropriate).
It helps that the tower was reasonably upgraded.
Of course, they brought a half dozen catapults to round 2 of the fight, and dropped them on our weak flank. We lost that one, but still held for 3 hours.
