What happens after the leagues.
simple, just stop going to wvw. its not like you are forced to go to wvw although wvw is the endgame. if i don’t think wvw is fun anymore i would just drop it.
wvw in its state now is just broken, no matter how much effort you put out you will be steamrolled by hordes of kittens that wouldn’t stand a chance against you toe to toe. so why put up to the nonsense?
i regularly go to wvw just to do daily, maybe a little hunting because nothing other than another player really improve your in game skill. other than that i don’t really care much about my overall server performance. sure not all people think like me but hey, if you are not having fun why should you play this game?
this is all about you, for me i would stay away from negative play experience as much as possible. this will eventually force the devs to overhaul the whole wvw experience (they are working on it right now…….. i guess, just cross your finger because many people have already voiced similar discontent about wvw in overall)
until then i refuse to be involved in such imbalance system. spread the word and maybe the change will be quicker :P
Even though I agree with you, and I am doing what you are suggesting until the league seasons are out, most of the guilds that left Underworld weren’t PvP/WvW only guilds. The population diminished so rapidly that Tequatl is impossible, so is Temple of Balthazar and many other world events. These events are not properly scaled and require huge zergs in advancement. This status quo have left players with no choice but to Guest on larger servers in order to finish those events and roll the dice for precursor or ascended weapons.
See it’s not just the WvW I am worried about. Things are so much intertwined that an obvious mistake as WvW rewards based on how you matched up destroys a highly populated server.
Yes, disorganization in Underworld plagued the server ever since the game released, but people kept logging in and fighting for it day in and day out. At a point we even had people to nightcap against other servers, and now we are outnumbered on our own border in prime time hours, for weeks. I do understand people’s frustration.
There is no end date for the WvW leagues, they could end it come next week, and they better, because those rewards destroyed everything :|
I would guess that over time if certain servers really are truly under populated, they will eventually do a server merge of some sort. The question really at this point is what is the overall game population. If it is simply transfers then they may offer incentives to move to lower populated servers. If the game population overall is dwindling you will likely see server mergers

That won’t happen because WvW presence doesn’t have a relation with total server population. Mass transfers made sure of that.
Do you know what is the greater issue here? That most people that left underworld, and i suppose other underperforming servers, left and went to other highly populated servers, leaving the low population servers, still at low a rate. Maybe even worse actually. I wouldn’t blame the people from low pop servers going to high pop servers because of the rewards they might get.
In the end the basic logic remains →
“If I’m guesting to server X more than I’m playing in my home server, why should I stay in my home server?”
There is just serious lack of loyalty because of rewards, which is understandable, even in real life that is valid, why wouldn’t it be in an online virtual world?!

I was not talking about WvW population only. part of the OP concern was not enough population to do PvE events (like Tequatyl). I was talking overall game and server population
What happens after the leagues.
We go back to how match ups were before the 7 week league.
The next, ‘big thing’ in WvW AFAIK will be the release of a new map, which will end queues. You will not be able to score points for your server on this map but be able to play WvW well you wait to get in the normal maps. Also, Anet are going to use it to ‘try stuff out’ before its implemented on the competitive maps.
I have a feeling myself, playing numbers in WvW will go down abit once the league ends. Probably come back for the new map…

Thing is, this map will be too little too late IMO.
And it won’t fix PvE issues.
If this new wvw map only pops up when all borderlands are full, us peeps on UW will not see it often. Maybe in week one when everybody wants to check out what its like. If it can be accessed directly it means it will spread our meagre forces even thinner.
For stacked servers it might make some happy who would have to wait to play for hours. But I bet there will there be lots of shouting and grieving in chat trying to get anybody who is not in an op pvp guild to leave the maps that counts for points. There is now a convenient bench for the slow and awkward kids – go play in the sandbox, leave the jungle gym to the leet…..
Oh well, lets hope for the best….
