You can state THREE things, that need to be fixed/changed/balanced or removed (Realistically.) that you feel WvW NEEDS (Not you personally wanting it changed to suit a personal want.) to be more fun, balanced, and attract new/old and returning players to join in.

I will start:

1. Condition based gear like Dire/Trailblazers needs to be removed from the game-mode as it was in sPvP, these two sets offer an immense survivability while offering the classes/builds that they are use in conjunction with, top-tier dps/sustain.

2. More control as far as Tactivators, Supply, Siege-Placement ect. by control I mean, if a guild claims a point, such as a tower/keep or supply camp, their members are the only ones able to perform certain duties, to prevent trolling/griefing by alt account using children. Alliances could be formed, so more than one guild can perform these actions, incase of the claimer not being there.

3. A limit on Server Vs. Server Vs. Server numbers, to even out the playing field, we all know the match-ups can sometimes be unfair, servers can have 50+ person blobs, while the others struggle to get together 20 pugs. This would encourage people who have bandwagoned to one server or the other, to spread out, so they have more of a chance to get into the selected borderland.

Alright RULES:

No belittling people’s list of ideas, no snarky comments mixed into your, “Three” ideas, ect.

The REASON for this thread:

In all honesty I see a lot of people wanting changes/fixes/balances made in WvW some seem very one-sided, while the others, seem fair. My hopes is that a Dev, will see this, take the top three most common ideas, and perhaps, share them with the rest of the team. We have to believe they will listen or atleast see this post, and hopefully in the future, we can see some of our ideas, take shape.

1. Correction of class balance and reducing the availability or effectiveness of condition stacks and CC.
At this point, there are too many situations in WvW where there simply is no effective counterplay, particularly in small-scale fights. This could make even a great game mode awful because it ruins the combat at the core of the gameplay, so it’s the highest priority of all.

2. Create roles for guilds that make them necessary to the success of a server.
Rather than an incidental outcome of server organisation that mainly contributes utility. This would most likely mean supporting GvGs as part of the match.

3. Slow down the karma train and make maintaining territory progressively more difficult the more you control.
Towers and forts should require considerable investment to capture, and you should have to rebuild them after you capture them.

1. Cap on max health loss per second. No instant gibs without any counter-play options.

2. Food/siege free zone on activators. Neither are designed as a activator disabler.

3. Que indicator for commanders so they can see if the zerg can move map or not.

Removing gear and turning this into a couple of PvP is exactly what will break WvW.

TB and Dire should remain. Their effects are overstated. There is plenty of damage available to all classes to take down people in Dire gear.

They add little to damage outside the Condition trait the like of which exists across all armor sets. Dire is not providing that damage.

That said to the issues.

1>population Imbalance. I think we need to wait a while for the ripple effect of the recent changes to make themselves manifest. Population imbalance may correct itself given time so I will not comment on other fixes for this until some time passes.

2>Siege and Countersiege. My opinion is that sieges should be harder. These are keeps and castles which should not just be rolled over by small groups. As such one fix would be to make the “walls” higher in game terms. This would still allow attackers to hit people on walls but give more leeway for positioning siege on the same so they are not all taken out in seconds. PvP door should not work. Being on a wall above an enemy should be an advantage, not a death sentence. I have no issues with a smaller group being able to fend of a larger while they in a keep or tower because that the entire reasons keeps and towers are built. In cojunction with this WPS should only be disabled when there an attack with Siege on that objective and not be someone attacking a door with a dagger.

3>Address the preponderance of AOE and stacked AOE. I am not sure how to do this but fighting red circles is not a lot of fun.

1. Fix the lag situation that has existed since launch.

2. Pop cap/map cap that flex with time of day to control bandwagons and/or severe outnumbered situations.

3. QoL: Invisible commander tag for guilds that want to more easily run as a guild.

4. If I were allowed a fourth it would be to cap condi stacks. anything more than 20 stacks seems a bit stupid.

To be perfectly honest balance should be at the front of the list for the benefit of both the players and the developers. We all want a happy, healthy, and fun game mode. Achieving such a goal makes players happy as they end up having fun playing the game they enjoy while it makes developers happy because happy players are more likely to sink money into the game. Everybody wins and despite ArenaNet’s failures and player disgruntlement at the end of the day isn’t that what we all want?

This is already a thing for tactivators. There’s a setting that allows everyone to pull them or just guild members with the permission. The problem with having the one with only the guild permissions is if say smc is under attack and they REALLY need to pull chilling fog or ewp, but none of the players from that guild are on and they lose it due to not being able to use the tactics. I’m not really sure of a way that you can actually fix this trolling/griefing without a downfall

That’s why I propose Guild Alliances, that way people within the alliance that have the Rank privilege to pull tacts, can make use of claimed structures within their alliance, heck you could have no limit to the size of your alliance, that way multi-guilds could work together, and less chance of misuse or trolling/griefing.

You mean like the condi tank meta now? A good percentage of condition players in WvW are already running full dire or trailblazer. If not they are at the very least mixing them with viper. I don’t believe the damage with condition play is as important to address as the way they can be quickly reapplied with a dozen other cover conditions on top. That being said, there are several aspects that need to be looked at…

  1. The rate at which conditions can be reapplied by one player
  2. The resistance boon (rate of application and current strength being 100% negation)
  3. The current condition meta using gear that adds significant toughness and vitality while being able to deal high amounts of damage

About that last bullet point… while there are similar gear stats for power that add vitality or toughness along with significant damage application rarely can you find a situation that utilizes both. Condition gear can significantly mitigate both types of damage while dealing a very good amount of damage in the process. I don’t think that this is healthy for a PvP mode.

The problem with that is the comparison of what a tank power build can do versus a tank condi build isn’t really much of a fair one. People try and compare gear like marauder to dire and trailblazers. I am sorry, but there is no comparison. I can run around WvW with my ele in full marauder which the extra vitality would help mitigate condition damage but doesn’t do a thing against getting melted by power damage because there is 0 toughness to it. Dire and trailblazer have both while allowing a condition damage major that is all many condi builds really need to dish out a large amount of damage. Yes you can argue precision, but honestly precision is just the icing on the cake to help set off additional condition traits.

Necro is a good example of this. With the DC GM trait as it is now, having decent precision for a condition necro is just an additional bonus. It’s not a requirement to stack and reapply stacks of bleeds.

Your missing the biggest impact off wvw and that’s players mindset off how they play the game.

Yes there are imbalances in the game without a doubt, but the biggest downfall off wvw is zergs and we have nothing but the majority off wvw population to blame… Change the mindset off players and I can garentee wvw would be much more enjoyable.

Food can reduce condi duration on you by 20%. Rune of hoelbrak, melandru, resistance, antitoxin, and nature’s bounty can reduce condition duration by 20, 25, 15, 24 and 15% respectively. That’s 35-45% condition damage reduction if you never use a cleanse. There are traits that reduce cripple/chill/immob by 25, 33 or 66% or just remove them outright. While not DoTs, these help ensure that your cleanses actually clear the damaging ones. At best, food reduces power damage by 10%. At best, rune of the scrapper has a conditional 7% power damage reduction. So should condi players complain that runes/food defend too well against conditions while runes/food don’t defend as well vs power damage?

Neither condition damage nor tb/dire are inherently broken. The condi reduction food/runes I listed used to also be meta at one point. I’m rather new to taking wvw seriously but the main reason I have huge condition diversity on my reaper (I’m mostly talking from PvP experience although I’ve seen this in wvw too) is because there is a huge variety of boons to corrupt which leads to “amazing” condition diversity. This is not entirely the Necros fault. Boon power creep means the counter class gets power creep.

That being said, I think reaper corrupts are a bit too strong. Mallyx revs have a chill to torment trait but the only corrupt that applies chill is resistance. That’s easy enough to balance imo. Reaper on the other hand…

Stability → Fear → Chill → Bleed/vuln
Fury → Blind → Chill → Bleed/vuln
Resistance → Chill → Bleed/vuln

Like seriously? Stability is fair, fear is a Necro thing but fury corrupts? Corrupting fury can apply 4 conditions! Too OP. Resistance corrupts to 3 conditions too. That hurts extra hard when someone relies on resistance instead of condi clears. Fury and resistance should just go directly to bleeds. Stronger boons could result in more stacks/duration of bleed. If most boon corrupts applied torment from Rev and most boon corrupts applied bleeds from Necro, I think this would fix a ton of the condi “problems” in both wvw and pvp. I also think resistance should be changed to reduce condition duration by ~30% instead of just ignoring them and letting them rack up. It could stack with food/runes.

I’d like achievements added to the WvW legendary backpack collection, similar to what the PvP backpack has.

There might be cheevos for:
Winning a skirmish
Killing players
Killing guards
Taking camps
Taking towers

etc.

It would add a little something to the timegate.

Condition Duration reduction is not the same as Condition Damage Reduction. That mitigation stat is very effective against soft CCs yes, but most damaging condi stacks do enough damage that they kill people before the stacks wear out, ie nobody runs around with stacks of condis for 20 seconds with no cleanse before they die.

And even assuming this is straight damage reduction, there is also + condi food to cancel it out. Is there a food that increases direct damage by 20%?

As for direct damage reduction , there is mussels gnashblade.

I would argue that the anti-condi things such as melandru runes and poultry soup have just not been kept up to date, as they were designed before condi spam was as common. (well, it was always common, more so)

I think it makes more sense for more traits or items or equipment to actually reduce condition damage as well as capping stacks of condis, as the cap was removed for pve reasons for bosses that have billions of health. We can keep TB/Dire as well.

Now, you might ask, well, "I don’t inflict 40 stacks of anything, so I’ll melt people anyways’. Which is fine. This is more of an issue of scaling, not to help people that don’t bring condi clears.

So the answer to the condi tank meta is to throw build diversity out of the window and build entirely defensive to mitigate condition damage? Who wants to play that game? Can you build entirely for mitigating condition damage? Yes… and you will also hit like a wet noodle, in most cases give no support to your group, and overall be a worthless tank roaming around WvW with no real role in small skirmish, roaming, or zerg play.

There’s an easy solution for condi tank issues, it’s called make it work with Precision and Ferocity. Nerf condi damage across the board and let them crit, suddenly Trailblazers loses a ton of its damage, and Viper becomes a lot more risk reward. Also allows for new stat sets like Condi zerker (Condi, Prec, Fero).
Also nerf Resistance to be like Protection and make it accessible to all classes.

Some other stuff that would be nice:

Auras only apply on melee hits (like shocking aura, seriously ranged auto chill on necros is annoying if they have ele friends).
More supply driven gameplay.
Gates weaker than walls to provide risk/reward incentive when attacking structures.

Gathering nodes need to be disabled whilst defending a tower.

You’re like defending a tower and wall’s at 20% and some ppl are gathering nodes instead of helping defend…it’s like working in the field while people are sipping martini in front of you…

1. Find some way to revert upgrades back to manual. Tricky because the old gold sink was bad, and if you let it upgrade manually for free, someone will troll and abuse it.

2. Revert EU back to single servers. Test out shiny new fixes on NA as they want them, and most WvW issues centre on NA issues.

3. If you continue with linking, create origin server nameplates to retain server identity while in game. Have announcements of which server flipped a tower or keep to encourage internal server competition/pride.

2. Reduce Arrow Cart Damage
3. Encourage fights rather than objective capping/de-capping – more rewards/pips for killing enemy players – provide incentive for engaging enemy players – this is the best part of the game mode.
4. Not solely WvW related, but Core/Vanilla specs need to be buffed to be a viable option to HOT specs.
5. Again, not solely WvW related, but more work needs to be done on poor/unused traits and weapons across the board.
6. WvW class/skill balance – need to find a common ground between PvP and PvE changes and balance appropriately.
