Q:
What is Anet's intention of no white swords?
A:
To allow smaller groups to have a chase at taking T3 towers. Towers and keeps should never be something you can hold for 24hr+ and with white swords you could always get a free heads up when even the small man groups are going after something that will take them well over 10 mins to take down a door or a wall. By taking out the free scouting system you make it harder to hold on to towers making them game feel less of a running your head agen a wall or running with a super zerg (the main way to speed things up) but more as if even your small group can do something truly meaningful.
The blow back atm is about ppl who want to make WvW into a very stagnate game during the week to hold keeps and towers forever over all making it a very boring bunker game. Ppl are just unable to get over them self to lose something witch is very much part of wvw you NEED to be ready to lose objectives you CANT hold every thing all the time.
Exactly. Thank you for understanding how WvW should work.
Removing white swords was a much needed change. Especially on lower tier. I don’t know why some people think they can hold an entire borderland all night long without anything flipping at all but it’s ridiculous.
I don’t think they discuss these matters with real wvw players before they implement them or think through the consequences.
It’s more likely one of the devs heard ’wouldn’t it be fun if they removed the white swords’ when they joined a guild for a week in the tournament and decided it would be a good idea, then went and did it.
they need to justify the creation of eotm… right?

The Karma train fever got to someone in charge.
If you read their original announcement (which was to permanently remove white swords), the reason was to fix the mess that siege disablers created. Basically one bad mechanic on top of another.
I think they’d like to kill off wvw altogether. That way the tiny bit of resources that they put towards wvw can be moved to their money makers like the gem store, and/or pvp.

They couldn’t just remove the siege disablers? It’s like Anet doesn’t keep backups and once a change is made they have no way to back it out…

They do this a lot, when a new mechanic fails, they rarely remove it, but rather pile something on top, hoping for a fix (see: Dhummfire). It makes sense in a way: if you’re in charge of the project and your work ends up completely removed from the game, it looks pretty bad on you so you attempt to patch up your mistake instead.
Design incentive? I believe it’s more of an experiment or since it’s just temporary to shake things up.
From my view I’ve loved it, on Borlis Pass(a server seemingly wearing cement shoes) it enables small groups(like me and 3 guildies) to attack one or even multiple locations at once if we choose, without sending up the bat-signal from a tower or keep for an enemy group of 20 to show up and push us off. These servers know we’re out there but decide not to split up to find us, instead they follow a trail of color changing objectives. All it would take is one skilled person to stalk us and call our location out, at least till we would split up to make their life harder :P
But yeah all you gotta do is have one person walk close to an objective to see if the defend event is active and most people are too lazy or too afraid to go by themselves to do so.

This was the only official info given. It would be nice if a dev would chime in with more on what they are thinking.

I’m pretty sure this is much more like “Oh s**t, our change was a mess, but don’t tell anyone, they will forget”.
This no announcements on forums or any other channel about their concerns, their purpose on this change and the motivation to do it only show one of two things (or maybe both):
1st. They don’t know anything about WvW, they thought a 2 week inside a guild was enough as to understand what people needed (rememeber noone asked for this change, that as you can see in tons of different posts in this forum, people converge in that this a really bad and hated change.
2nd. They realised about the people complaining but the ego is above the players needs and thoughts, will be translated in another patch that will “cover” this mess and so people stop complaining
We have all complained about balance issues. So Anet is trying some rule changes to see if that helps the Balance issue.
Figures people would complain about there attempt to try and help. No wonder they ignore the WvW crowd. No matter what they do, people complain.

Anet would never see another penny out of my wallet if this happened. WvW is what keeps me playing.
instead of devs joining guilds to run wvw with them
it would be much more interesting to have a dev VS player wvw XD
Intentions?! They had no intentions.
Yet again they did the lest amount of work required to add 2 small changes to the mode.
Not only that, they claim they got these ideas from “requests” from their adopt-a-dev sessions.
I for one would still like to know who, or which guilds requested these changes, as as soon as a dev posted that they were going to implement these changes a lot of people replied saying they did not want these and that they would make things worse.
As usual the devs did not listen. Which again begs the question who did they actually listen to then?!
