I am interested in starting WvW, unsure of the exact stats I should get. I do follow the zerg from time to time but I prefer to fight in smaller groups.

Currently I have a hammer gaurdian in full zerker ascended, and I’m going to start getting my condi warrior ascended gear.

I was wondering, specifically for my warrior, what do I get. Sinister, rabid, dire? Same with my guardian. I’m having a really hard time finding decent guides. I want to use a longbow as my secondary weapon on both characters. There are hardly any good guides out there unfortunately most of them are dated. Someone really needs to write a guide on gearing / builds.

Do you have ascended or legendary weapon? Crafting ascended armour can be very expensive and if ANet change how core trait work you might have a less optimal build. From what I have read on this forum Ascended armours will only give a minor percent improvement ajove exotic, so it is better to first craft weapon which is more flexible to use.

Do you roam mostly alone or in a group?

If you roam alone then a more defensive build (for condi build: vitality will give you some time until you would need to use your healing skill or get access to condi removal; toughness for direct damage). I don’t know if the new stats combo might be something for you to look into as we have Viper which will add more duration to your base condition damage (compare this to Sinister), but then you would need to get both recipes and maybe mats from the new HoT maps.

Don’t forget to look into what kind of Runes that might work with your play style and how you want to make use of core and elite specialisation.

You should ask this question in each of the class forums. Lots more eyes there to help you out and gear choices generally revolve around the build itself. Meta Battle also has a handful of workable WvW builds.

I wouldn’t go for ascended until you find what works for your play style. Wvw armor and weapons are relatively cheap and can be salvaged now. If what you try first doesn’t work for you, you can switch it up.

For warrior condi stats are pretty unheard of in wvw, we are testing it a bit, but it doesnt realy work that good. Also warrior is pretty unviable currently when compared to warrior or revenant for frontliner, though there are build like gunflame/hammer-greatsword hybrids, but are generaly not wanted by commanders.
As for guardian, if u go full zerker u are going to dye instantly. Most guardians in guild groups run a lot of vitality and thoughness, becouse your role as a guardian isnt damage realy, but support and cc.
Judging by your armor ideas i have a felling your totaly new to wvw.
I would join a wvw guild or a community wvw guild, they are going to tell u how and why to play certain proffessions and builds. Just ask away in EBG or something. U mentioned smaller groups, guilds tend to run ~20 people.

I wouldnt get ascended armor just like that(its a huge investment for most wvw people, so i cant realy judge how much of a hassle it is to u to get 700 or so gold), get used to your class and if u acctuly like playing it than go for ascended, but definetly not condi unless your playing reaper(atleast for now).

Not that I run into that many of them, but a condi longbow warrior has, in the past been an interesting fight in WvW. Unsure on the build or its current viability. The cost for ascended is significant enough that you want to be running the full exotic version for a while to make sure you want to commit to it.

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/ is a good place to start for seeing what works “on paper” and then testing out the gameplay in sPvP Heart of the Mists or in WvW.

WvW wise: people often make the mistake of running around in glass. Glass works for some people on some classes but isn’t for everyone—especially starting out. A good rule to start with is that you need somewhere in the range of 3000 armor. It may be too much for an experienced player but you won’t die nearly as easily. You should also focus on staying alive and mobile — nothing kills you faster than being locked down and focused by 3+ players.

Basically, my advice is that gearing a character relies on multiple factors: player skill, player experience, build, and playstyle. Start from what you need to do, survive, and then slowly reduce your HP/armor until you have just enough to not die and do decent damage at the same time. (Note: a build that can take a few hits and then hit back decently well will usually beat a glass cannon that can’t take any hits).

For both I’d use Marauder armor and weapon with soldiers trinkets.

This will give you enough bulk to run effectively on the frontline, but doesn’t kitten your damage so hard that you can’t kill stuff anymore.

You should aim for 3K+ armor unless you plan to be a DPS warrior.

Here’s what I made in 3 minutes on gw2skills:

That said , condi warrior is likely not a good choice.

For guardian you don’t want to run condi gear at all. Your condition damage is not going to be consistent enough, even with Virtue of Resolve.

This is what I was able to make up for Virtue of Justice proc on 3 hits (semi-gimmicky, using burning as additional damage instead of crit)
