Class doesn’t matter as much as build…. you want to tag as many players with the 10% (or whatever) damage and move as slowly and deliberately as possible (decrease chances of leaving bags on the ground).
Support gets you very little…and being melee on the front-line and all the movement probably hinders loots as well. Can’t wait for a loot system based on something other than the bags.
Every profession, just don’t suck at it.
Glass cannon staff elementalist is good because of the aoe, all you need to do is tag targets for a drop chance.
Support gets you very little…
That’s not true anymore with the drop rate being changed. Guardian, Ele, and Warrior all have weapon skills that can be easily used to tag players and get credit.
The devs don’t care about WvW so I’m gonna kill players in PvE!
necro or any having a siege weapon
P.S. also ele spamming AIR 1 with staff but i think they should let your friendly zerg attack you if you do that -.-
you are just leeching kills.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

I run a staff on my Guardian but tend to switch to hammer when hitting the enemy. How do you maximize tagging with the staff?
Thanks!

anything with significant AOE damage and survivability (to pick up the bags after the encounter it’s easier if you are still alive)
Of the three chars I play (warrior, ele, ranger), I find I get the most loot bags from my ranger. Stay at range, and pound on the enemy with both longbow and shortbow mix. Works great.

Pop a fat staff 3 symbol in the middle of a group of bunched up unsuspectings, as they scatter staff 1 them all and cackle maniacally as loot rains upon your head so long as the zerg is helping to mop. Got around 15 bags in about 1 minute during a SM defense this week doing that. Bonus fun to corral them into an area with line + ring or warding and staff, staff, staff away.
a guardian from k[Ai]neng
the guardian staff behind a gate under seige attacking the zerg hitting that gate gives plenty bags also :p
You should try a Nadegineer.
Drop a supply crate on zerg then run through with bombs…. And that’s my support build!

Great, thanks. I will try it!

Glass cannon Longbow Ranger gets an absurd amount of bags. I collect substantially more on mine than on my grenade Engineer and wells Necro, probably about as much as on both of them combined.
Just clean up after the zerg and kill all the downed opponents, there’ll be bags all around you and preventing enemies from rallying and being rezzed is actually a very valuable and underrated contribution to your side’s effort.
Before the loot drop increase I found my staff ele got a lot of bags and even mesmer with a staff when compared to my necro with a staff.
Now though I mainly play on my gc necro.

Long range usually gets more bags then melee or short range. Rifle, longbow, staff is all good. A very high level engineer with explosives and rifle sure works. Longbow ranger is quite nice. Staff necromancer is fine too.
They key to getting bags is keeping yourself at a safe distance while doing lots of damage from afar. Switch targets constantly and AoE when possible!

I get a lot either when I do staff Ele or SB and S/P thief. I’m in the middle of group fights and cluster bombing/evading, and I notice I get tons of loot drops.
Also, I keep autotargetting off and just place clusterbombs in melee range to maximize the scatter. Switch targets as much as possible and skirmish downed players instead of just going in for the stomp to ensure you get tag status.
soloQing my way through leagues…
Easy.
Thief.
Shortbow 4 spam + autoattack.
Save your initiative just for shortbow 4.
Try it and be amazed at the loot bag spam.

When you place an arrow-cart on a front-line tower or keep and get on it when it’s under attack, will get you alot of bags. Preferably a superior one, it does 50% more damage and has 50% more health.
But all in all, I find that ANet should come up with a system that accounts for heals, buffs, debuffs and even combo field starters too.
You can with one build…
- shout heal 4 people for half their health every 24 seconds
- give 4 people fury 50% of the time
- give 4 people 3 stacks of might half the time and 6 stacks the other half
- put 10 stacks of vulnerabilty on a target every 24 seconds
- put a fire field every 10 seconds
and not get ANY bags out of it.
That is unfair, plain and simple.

Epidemic staff necro is by far the highest. Guardian is most likely second with staff, since they survive so long they tag many many targets.
Arrow carts are another good way to farm walking bags.

GC thief with SB nets me every bag. Every last one. Still wearing rares, too.
#4’s poison goodness, #2s for some 4k crits or multiple 1.2k spread, auto attacks for 1-1.5k crit on each target. I usually save dagger storm for when our side needs the enemy zerg’s front sawed off, but kitten does it haul in the bags.
Almost never have survivability problems in a group, dish out heavy damage to multiples and switch to DD if any of their more annoying/not-horrendous players find themselves too close. Given the amount of damage/downs I dish out, it doesn’t even feel like choosing greed over loot. A well-placed #2 SB knocks chunks out of the whole zerg.
You survive long.

the easiest way to get them is with a mesmer.
use feedback + null field + temporal curtain against an enemy group and wait for yours to finish them off. You don’t have to do anything else (except staying out of trouble, so you can collect all the bags).
I gotta say been playing a couple weeks now and with my 80 ele, RTL to the backs lines Air 6, Fire 4, Earth 5, Earth 6, profit :P

Thief front line go right up the side of the zerg right on the edge of all the aoe with dagger storm push to the back line, stealth (their attention is off you) turn and cluster bomb , if you draw to much fire while cluster bombing stealth reposition and cluster bomb

Necro
We’ve run tests on this, its not even close. It was necro followed by ele and everyone else and the necro was getting twice the bags the ele was .
The epidemic staff build gets a tap on every single person, you will get a bag on 95% of your kills. Its insane.

You should try a Nadegineer.
Nadegineer is pretty bad in zergs. With the spam of projectile reflections and low grenade velocity, I have an easier time getting bags on my hammer warrior by far despite having to always run into melee range to tag targets. Factor in that grenades also easily run into downtime due to extreme self-damage via retaliation and sadly it ends up pretty sub-optimal in comparison to most classes.
Thief…sure some classes may have superior AoE skills, but trick shot and cluster bomb just keep pumping big damage all day with no cooldown. Ballet dancer mode also enables you to make sure everyone who comes to the party stays at the party.
Necro. Finally we’re the best at something.
where the guardian comes out ahead is:
in large zerg vs. zerg fights those fancy abilities like marks and wells don’t really matter as you can’t use them with the lag.
staff 1 pretty much always works.
