Q:
What would happen if...
A:
You are effectively making the map larger which would make wvw more interesting. On he flip side it will make the number of battles you fight / hr smaller so there are less action but each battle would count more towards map control.
You are not allowed to waypoint unless you are dead? What would be the issues, if any? What would be the positive aspects, if any? Thoughts?
(Bear in mind I have not stated anything about this idea. I have simply posed the question. Please don’t eat me…)
People would just kill themselves on cliffs to do the same thing? Cliffs are abundant, remorseless, and always watching and waiting.

Lol.
Nom, nom, nom, nom.
WPs can mean the difference between saving a T3 structure and having it fall.

That’s something to consider for sure. But would that be a bad thing?

Have u seen? People always find a way to s…. you
At this point place a NPC Goblin close to the cliff, if people want to jump down, they shall pay in tokens the Goblin:D

Clearly you are unfamiliar with the WvW mechanics and strategies. Way pointing doesn’t cost gold in WvW.

Clearly I am because the upgrade would be a waste and costs gold, hence a useless waste of gold. I’ve paid for it several time.
It would be good for defense when the timer ticks and we are waiting for it to respawn but that would be all it is useful for.

Gotcha. I thought you were referring to the cost of waypointing.
This would turn the waypoints into a respawn point instead of a way to ridiculously move 40 people across the map in a matter of seconds. It would murder zerg mobility, which to be honest is a good thing.
The best player in the game
“I’m better than all of you!”
It would stop a lot of the map hopping zergs from instantly appearing in a keep, which is a good thing. As far as people killing themselves off cliffs, there aren’t suicide ledges that close in most cases, besides the home borderland.
I feel that the waypoint mechanic needs a lot of work.
a) 1 guy hitting a gate for 5 damage then running away shouldn’t deactivate waypoints. I would like to see this only happen if some significant damage occurs, such as a catapult hit.
b) waypoint uncontesting between defense events is a horrible mechanic that rewards last minute map hopping defenders and discourages good scouting and communication.
c) waypoint should be contested as long as the keep lord is in combat or dead.

OP you were set up.

I would say it would help getting the blobs reduced. At least I hope it would..
It would certainly make golem-rushing a T3 keep much easier.
As it is many servers don’t have scouts in their structures – not even talking about ridiculous-o’clock when 4 guys are defending all of the maps and you can just paint them whatever color you like.
So it sounds like most of you are saying that it might help stop zerging to an extent. Is that right? And is that a good thing? (Again, not saying anything, myself. Just asking questions.)

It won’t stop zerging. It will stop a zerg from pouring in for a defense, but it won’t stop zerging at all, not even to an extent.

Can you elaborate on this?

Why would it stop zerging?
Just because people can’t port into a spot right away doesn’t mean it will stop zerging.
You’ll just see a zerg tail like we have now when the WP is contested. The zerg will still be there, just won’t be able to way point.
It will greatly increase the need to guard and scout around points of entry.
As someone who regularly uses WPs while commanding, I can tell you for a fact that WPs actually reduce the number of the zerg. Because you always lose 20-30% of people that don’t read the chat, aren’t paying attention and get into combat, or simply do not want to WP.
If anything WPs reduce zerg size.
I got an idea, for all the people like this. We create a track around Southsun cove and you get event rewards as you run around it non-stop. Call it the karma train and people can do that and leave WvW for people who actually like thinking their way around objectives instead of wanting them easier to achieve.
You are effectively making the map larger which would make wvw more interesting. On he flip side it will make the number of battles you fight / hr smaller so there are less action but each battle would count more towards map control.
This sounds like the most intelligent and realistic repercussion of the idea.
A cd and cap is what wps need lets say 30 people every 60min or 60 every 90
