Saving WvW (if it can be done) requires resources to be committed by Anet, a commercial company. Perhaps one of the reasons that Anet has not seemed to take WvW as seriously as they could is that it probably does not generate much revenue for them. I think there is a missed opportunity here, so I’m going to imagine a WvW vendor that takes Gems and ask what would have appealed to you. All ideas welcome, from the serious to the seriously fun.

I’ll start with a couple to get the idea rolling:
Custom Golem skins (new item).
Guild claiming fireworks (already exists, unavailable atm but I liked them.
Guild “upgrade” so dolyaks from claimed camps show the Guild logo (new item).

So… what would you have bought in WvW?

- unique server team armor skin
- unique siege skin

I’d buy the Marauder or Studded Medium Shoulders.

I’d certainly buy something like Server Armor/Weapon skins (Imagine if Anet held some kind of competition in which players from each of the servers designed weapon/armor skins for each of their servers, and that these were added into the game for us to be bought? I’d jump right on that kitten.) Anything unique to the server that I’m playing on would be really neat and it means I can show it off outside of WvW too. Obviously if they did this then they’d have to disallow people using skins from past servers that they no longer play on.
I think I’d also love to just buy the entirety of the WvW section of the game so that I can eventually hand it over to some developers that actually know what to do with it.

• Mini Stealth Device – Minis learn the perils of war and stealth when you do.
• Guild Uniforms – Customize the uniform of NPCs in objectives claimed by your guild.
• War Diary – Start tracking your WvW accomplishments in a diary that you can show to your friends. It would display how much time you’ve been writing to your diary and in that time how many objectives of each type you have captured and defended and how many players of each rank (no rank, bronze, silver…) you have killed. Diary can be reset whenever.
• Stack of Flower Bouquets – A way to honor fallen enemies, leave a flower bouquet on an enemy’s body as a way of saying ‘good game’, the enemy receives something nice for that (some random silver and bages of honor).

I’d pay 2000 gems for a 12-slot bag for only siege that is automatically shared by all my toons.

I’d pay even more gems for a little convenience item like Princess who will salvage all my blues, greens, and white junk, consume luck, and put mats in my collection with one click.

Cool skins that cost gems and wvw badges would also be nice.

A sigil/rune dissolving salvage-o-matic for the blue and green items (so i dont have to slide and confirm delete all day long cause lord knows i am not gonna find a merchant for 5 silver) + and auto mat deposit

exchangeable rune/sigil slot for ascended and legendary armor/weapons
Its silly to have practically all the legendaries and still have 2-3 copies of each of the ascended weapons just to carry extra runes/sigils for certain situations.

I’d be more than happy to buy a shared bag for account-bound siege.
And a rune / sigil recyclor is a great idea

A stealth commander item that would allow commander tag to be hidden to non-commander and people not in squad.

Tower decorations (like we have in guild halls, but for WvW structures)

WvW guild halls sets – To get WvW upgrades for our guilds without needing to do PvE.

I spent a ton of cash for WvW items.
Skins, merchants, finishers and transfers… Not to mention the original game AND expansion.

They could’ve sold me a map pack no problem, before HoT… Right now I feel owed for the expansion yet so I buy nothing.

Used to have a $40/month siege habit. For a long time.

I’d pay 200 gems per month for a monthly pass to a WvW tournament that runs weekly on the Alpine border maps.

Skins for commander tags, like guild emblem. I got excited for this possibility when the mentor tag was released.

There were threads like these before, most of the ideas posted have already been posted before. But Anet chose to ignore them. Instead they dumped $400k into esports with such a small spvp community. Can people really say esports is generating much revenue for them? Imagine what a fraction of that money could do for WvW if spent wisely.

What Anet’s doing isn’t unique to this company however. Neglect and doing the bare minimum have to do with lack of competition. There needs to be a game with really good RvR before Anet feels enough pressure to do more for WvW. All MMO’s do this. Competition really do drive companies to do better in order to keep customers.

As for what they could add that I would buy? I’ve already posted these before but here they are again:

1. Unique siege skins that are account bound, so once you’ve bought it, you can drop rams, catas, ac’s, etc with skins of your choosing. Kind of like choosing glider skins, you let people choose the skins they’ve bought. You can also have a random option like with finishers.

2. More guild/server pride skins and items. DAOC was all about guild & realm pride. Here? Aside from the tag next to your name, people mostly look the same. In DAOC when you run upon a tower/keep, you knew which guild claimed it because that frigging tower/keep was decked out in guild attire, color, etc..

3. More convenience items. Most people I know have already bought account share slots, I personally bought 5 the very first day. We need more than 5. See things like these that benefit everybody, not just PvE players, but WvW players also use these shared slots. More convenience items. I don’t care if I have to pay 500-1000 gems but I would spend that much to get a bot that loots my bags. I know the auto loot mastery doesn’t work in WvW, personally would rather buy an item in the gem store that auto loots than to grind PvE masteries.

4. More colors for commander tags, or special outfit sets that commanders can wear to make them stand out. I want to have the option to make commander tag easier to see, so I don’t have to waste focus target on their head and actually use focus target on players/things we need to kill.

WvW-related? Probably everything.

Right now, though, even if there were WvW-only things for sale, I wouldn’t spend a dime. They simply don’t deserve it, sorry.

WvW unique armor and weapon skins; different set unlocked at each tier of WvW rank.
Definitely a set of unique siege skins. The melon baller catas are interesting to me, for example.

Item that converts Dragonite/Empyreal Fragments to Superior Siege (think Karmic Converter)

Siege skins

Unlimited use food conversion item

Unlimited use utility conversion item

20 slot Siege / food/utility bag (100-125 gems) – accountbound & hold only Siege + food/utility

Keep /Tower decorations (reusable) i.e. a different flag pole or stuff to put on the wall (no collision)

Conversion from soulbound to accountbound proofs, 125 gems a stack. Or just revert the darn thing to accountbound.

Autoloot golem or whatever (800 gems)

Here we go again. What makes you think it doesn’t generate much revenue? From what I’ve seen WvW players buy skins and outfits just as much as PvE players; they also buy finishers — which PvE players don’t. Not only that, WvW players get much fewer rewards than PvE players, which probably means more WvW players buy gems with cash. I wouldn’t be too surprised if WvW players generated more revenue per player than PvE.

Yes right now i dont put any single penny in this game. Already spended 50 bucks to get this crap, if they want some more, they better fix this mess they throwed at us.

But yeah if it wasn’t like this i probably would have bought an account wide siege bag or siege skins.

I have spend a lot of money on that game. I bought a lot or armorsets, backpieces and dresses. I bought nearly every mini from the store. A lot of WxP boosters. I probably spend way more money on that game than i would have spend on as subscriptionbased game. But they decided to spend theyr money on that silly esport stuff i’m not intrested in, not on making the part of the game i love(d)better. So i just stoped givin them my money. I gave them my money and they completly failed to deliver me stuff i like. So i feel cheated.
So there is only one thing left i would spend money on: Getting the Alpine maps back! And that i would is a sign of desperation. It would send the completly wrong message to Anet.
Before HoT i would have bought a lot of stuff for WvW, but now they have to fix that mess before i spend a single cent on that game again.

A guild symbol commander tag. Instead of displaying a colored dorito, it displayed your guild symbol over your head and on the map.

Tower/Keep customization kits. To give an area we claimed a personal touch. Nothing that would affect the layout, just cosmetic changes to make it feel more like it was ours.

Yak Customization Kit. Something that could be used at a claimed camp to alter the appearance of the packs the yaks wear. Put a guild symbol on it, have a few options for different packs, etc.

That being said, I saw the direction Anet was pushing WvW a couple years back and made the conscious decision not to support them with any money based on that. Everything since then has only gone deeper and deeper into the proverbial rabbit hole, gradually building up to the disaster we now have. From everything I’ve seen from Anet, they’re just going to keep going in this direction, despite the countless protests from countless players and all of the people who have left because of it. So it doesn’t matter what they stick in the gem shop. In good conscience, I just can’t give them any money until they make a product that I can actually be happy about supporting. Several other games have gotten money from me, and I’ve been happy to spend it. But they’ve actually earned it through the quality of their product. Not though flat out lies, endless hype (that turns out to be more lies), and horribly flawed game design.

Upgrade for all siege to lower supply cost thereof to a manageable amount for small groups

Off the top of my head, I can’t think of any items in the gem store that are restricted to one area of the game. There are a few that can’t be used in PvP or WvW like mini’s and certain toy items but otherwise, there aren’t any items that are specifically made for one mode of the game.

So I doubt they’d start with WvW.

ANet can make a load of money if they introduce WvW only items in the cash shop:

WvW Loot Bags shared by all toons
WvW Armor skins
WvW Weapon Skins
Specialization backpacks skins that allow special duties (Squad Armor and Weapons Repairer every 30 minutes, Squad Personal and Guild Bank access every 30 minutes, Squad Merchant access every 30 minutes, Squad BLTP merchant access every 30 minutes, etc)

But ANet needs also to improve WvW rewards…they are pretty lame right now.

Shared, dedicated siege bag.. hands down.
