Q:

Come on guys this is getting really annoying people jumping winning servers all the time for bonuses/map completition or just to go along the zerg. This is destroying any server pride and honor that can be achieved. Hell this even ruins any attempts of trying to organize something in /map /team as enemy servers can have easliy spies on the maps.

PLEASE disable the free transfers as soon as possible.

i agree… anet needs to turn this crap off already, they are starting to ruin their own system… all this is doing in promoting server swapping to the one that wins every match.. causing huge differences in other servers after every fight

I’m confused about why it’s still available. Maybe they’re waiting until they start 2 week matchups? Which I’m not sure would be better than the 1 week matches anyway.

I always thought they would have a system in place to prevent this sort of thing. Like once you transfer you cannot WvW for a week or something. Currently there is no negative to swapping and people are taking advantage of that. I’d be willing to bet that a good portion of WvW players have already consolidated onto the top 3 servers and until the transfers are disabled they will consolidate even more into the #1 server.

Just a question/remark here, not a flame.

How is it actually destroying server pride and honor that can be achieved?

Isn’t it better for your server to get rid of those “server hoppers because I wan’t to always win” and organize with the peeps remaining on your server?
Isn’t it better to create a core with peeps you can trust, even if it means having lower numbers?

Are you aware how many “top”/zerg/small guild are jumping servers constantly? How can something be build when someone is constantly leaving/moving/coming back for free? At least the server hoppers should not be allowed to play WvW for a week!

I’m aware that the French “top” guilds have already made their choice and they’re not hopping servers. Some of them did change but now they’re settled. The only thing that can happen is that some of them could move one last time before “The last call” to chose a less populated server.

On the other hand I’ve heard that UMA and Frag-Ex are hopping all the time and that the Myrmidons are trying to hop with them.

Not everyone wants to be on a top server, I actually tried out a bottom 6 server and was having fun there. But I play at random times (including night) and it seemed to be a ghost town at a certain hour. There’s noticeable differences playing in the different brackets and I would suggest trying them all out. There’s no reason not to unless you’re an extreme tryhard or very committed to a guild.

Keep in mind that Arena Net is looking at the total population of servers. WvW does not make up the majority of a servers population. The only thing that matters for wvw is the section of the population that is actually in the borders or queued up. Theoretically you could create a low population server made up of only the top players in wvw 24/7 and it should top the server rankings, yet the server would be a ghost town outside of wvw.

The mistake is the same that has been made in almost every open pvp game. The assumption that most pvp players want or enjoy a fair fight. They don’t. As we are seeing now a very large section of the player base would prefer to sit in a queue and never set foot in the borderlands so long as they can claim to be on a ‘winning’ server. I am afraid that in the end population imbalance can only truly be addressed by the players. All Arena Net can do is put in artificial boosts and incentives that never work that well. Unless players as a group decide to even out the servers (i.e. large alliances breaking up, major guilds moving to lower tier servers, off peak players spreading out) then this is about as good as it gets.

They don’t need to remove the free server transfers, but they do need to lock out WvW for the remainder of the current match after a transfer. I’m surprised this hasn’t been done already.

I think they are keeping free transfers open until they implement guesting. If this is the case then I am really astounded… because their main feature is PvP not PvE… if they are making gameplay decisions based on Pve… that is a really bad move IMO… and biggest misstep I have seen them do.

They could at least limit the transfer by user… something like you have the right to do only two transfers… after that you may not transfer anymore. This would hold those users that like to go to the winning side.

It’s a mistake to start week long WvW matches when free server transfer is still in place. From another thread we all see how in almost all NA matches one server is completely dominating the other two. Match making is just a joke with free server transfer. Anet should stop free transfer and give everyone just 1 chance to transfer for free from now on. And run 24 hour matches for several more days and then week long matches.

Most players want a fair fight. They also want to be with like minded players. Rank number 4 server is medium population. People are getting demoralized to as well. When 1 side owns all of the map that is an unfair fight and people dislike it. So I think you need to stop assuming the worse of people. There are some who like a sure victory but lets not over generalize or assume that is the minority. The vast amount of players in GW2 are playing on a losing WvW server. (only 1 server wins of 3). \

Honestly, I don’t understand why you have transfers at all right now in regards to WvW.

Server matchups still need to be looked at and changed in the majority of cases, but how can you trust any kind of matchup data you get when the population is constantly shifting from players transferring all over the place?

I know the server where I play (Yak’s) we’ve had 2 major influxes of transfers so far, simply from being the highest scoring server for a couple days over a weekend. So, while we seem to be doing better lately than we were, this week long victory is also tainted as there are less enemies to fight. Not only have those enemies transferred to Yak’s but they’ve left our two enemy servers for other places as well.

So how useful is the match up we are currently in and how valuable is the data you are getting (scores etc) in the match up in determining future match ups? Probably pretty useless if a good chunk of the wvw’ing population transfers off a losing server after one bad day.

Just shut down the transfer for a couple months (at least) and let the server matchups issue work itself out without needlessly complicating the issue any further.
