I am amazed. Truly amazed, I tell ya!!!!

Anet has never given any population numbers for this game, yet I see several posters pulling “definite” percentages and numbers of people who have left wvw and this game due to dbls and other issues.

Sure, people have left. That’s why we now have linking.

But I really want to know what sort of Ouija board certain people are using to come to these numbers???? I mean, it is empirical magic!!!!

Where do I get such powers?

i don’t think magic can be empirical
and ouija boards are bad, you shouldn’t play with them.

The only way for us, players to have actual map cap numbers was in the past to have literally EVERYONE on the map on TS. We have done exactly and precisely this, many, many times and continued to do so for quite a long time in the past, our +- was maybe 2-3 people, so we had a very, very good idea about people per map, what it looks like, what it feels like, etc.

Those of us that have done this, especially helped organize / lead, so we know the numbers exactly, can easily compare the numbers to what we see today.

Unfortunately, as population in WVW started to fall off and GVG guilds became toxic and fractured communities, less and less people were on TS and to this day things have not recovered. Not even remotely close.

In addition, the map caps have been changed since those times. Most of us that have been playing a lot back in the day can pretty much tell with ease when we encounter a blob of 50ish / 60ish players, there is a certain specific amount of lag to it which is different when it goes over 60ish, and it looks a certain way, and even the fights are different. On a good build you can actually survive a 20-30 man bomb, for a very short time, but you can do it and often get out of the bomb in time. 40ish+ bombs are not survivable no matter what.

But back to the topic. Based on the 60ish blobs, we can also easily tell how things were, and how they are, and therefore derive percentages. Yes these are very rounded and obviously inaccurate, its all about having a rough idea rather then having actual numbers.

Also unfortunately, any player that has never had a chance to experience an entire map on TS and do so long and frequently enough, will not have the ability to judge the numbers because they lack the “experienced” frame of reference to do so.

Hope that clears it up a little.

Omg, someone took my post seriously.

And you’re right, Akk…..‘empirical magic’ is kind of an oxymoron.

Numbers pulled out of the air but from experience basically, anyone who was around at the beginning to now can definitely see a huge difference in population. Everything is a guesstimate especially with numbers loss due to the desert borderland, many other factors played into that as well.

HoT brought a lot of problems for wvw players, desert borderland, guildhalls upgrades, guild wvw upgrades locked behind the guildhalls, schematics locked behind scribing, elite specs throwing balance in the air, pirate ship still going strong, wvw players forced to pve, the savior to gvg’s – guildhall arena was smaller than expected. All that was enough for players to quit or take a break until the april patch.

Another derailing post. ^^

Completely agree with your post……I just get such a humorous kick out of some of the posters here that get very serious/specific with numbers AND reasons for playerbase numbers fluctuating, as if they own some sort of crystal ball that sees all.
