DB tried to do it to Ebay last night in Eternal. True, they had 5x our numbers, but hey, it was interesting.

I gotta agree with the OP.
Basically the doors and walls are two weak. So it’s possible for a big zerg to crack the doors open without siege weapons.
The result is, it’s no big deal to lose or take a tower, it will change hands again in a few minutes.
For the same reason, there’s little incentive to starve a position of supply – it might make a difference in the long run, but if there isn’t going to be a long run, why bother?
I say buff the towers by a factor of at least 10.
- Cheap and tradeable siege blueprints
- some servers run constant 40+ man zergs that can build/transport/man/defend A LOT of siege(Omega rush anyone?)
- 40+ man zergs shrink the maps considerably
- unupgraded structures are a joke and don’t scale in any way
- zero reward for scouting/guarding(and if you’re upgrading something, you’re going to try to protect it so it’s a lose/lose situation and “you’re taking one for the team”) not to mention the pathetic 1h despawn on siege.
- upgrading is far more expensive and time consuming than attacking
- defending from the walls is terrible, people can just walk up the the structure and use their hand held weapons to destroy wall siege(another joke!).
And they want to turn this into something “competitive”? Quaggan please!
OP pretty much sums it up. If you’re on a poorly populated server, as I am, you’re going to lose to the enemy zerg over and over again. The ‘strategy’ is to get a big zerg and steamroller the opposition. A couple of days after the reset and most maps are a single colour and nobody bothers putting up any resistance. Should be better, but isn’t thanks to primitive game design.
Smart siege placement + smart targeting can lead to success in defending. I’ve been able to drive off such larger forces because they just give up. They placed rams? Couple Sup. AC’s get them off the gate. They try to take down our siege with ballistas? Already have counter ballis in place. Going for long range? We got a couple trebs/mortars to fight them off. If anything, it will become a prolonged siege, but long enough to gain reinforcements. Or for them to give up.

Smart placement of siege equipment and smart targeting isn’t something everyone can do. You have to play WvW for a really long time, and spend money and time on experimentation. You are more likely to stop playing before discovering such tactics.
I’ve also noticed how the game discourages close combat, especialy when you are defending a tower or keep from a zerg.
I made a suggestion a long time ago that the problem might be solved by rewarding and giving activities for people who stay inside the bases, and boost the defender’s side.
Until some aspects of the game get reworked,you wont see epic fights on that game mod.
