So, with the reveal of all elite specs I’ve talked with a few guild leaders mainly doing GvG and WvW religiously. There is no hiding from the fact that the 4 clover is-

Guardian, Warrior, Necro and Elementalist.

Do you think the elite specialization of other professions will make said profession more desireable? Don’t get me wrong. I know there are some guilds out there welcoming all.

Will guilds use daredevils for spotting / fast executions?
Will tempest see any play?
Will scrapper be a good enough front line bruiser and useful with the elite gyro?
Will Druid bring anything positive to the WvW that water fields don’t already bring?
Chronomancers? Does it matter?
What about Revenant, will it grab a position as a working bee alongside the 4clover?

Lets speculate!

A lot of players have been waiting for a true healer class. I can see GWEN becoming GWERN if the Druid plays as well as it reads.

I know which one we probably won’t see much of… Daredevil.

I cannot see dragohunter being too popular, nor tempest either.. and if those bots from eng take dmg, they’ll be utterly useless with all the aoe in WvW..

GWEN should still be strong.
I’d wager that Druid will be pretty potent and welcome. Perhaps Revenant/Herald as an alternate healer/supporter if the buffs to Ventari legend are substantial.

I’m also hoping a few scrappers help out with group stealth duty.

Otherwise… I’m not hedging my bets on the others. Reaper, Tempest, Daredevil, and Dragonhunter all feel a bit too selfish or inferior to the base options for their respective professions. While I’d love Chronomancers to be a thing and the Wells look great, the weapon options and illusion mechanics still feel clumsy in group situations.

I don’t expect too many daredevils…stealth is too strong of a mechanic for any relatively stealthless build to gain much popularity.

Tempest requires staying attuned to one element for a while, quartering the elementalist’s skills. Again, the trade-off seems wrong considering how important cycling through elements is for them.

Reapers…well I’ll be playing one in WvW, maybe, but I’m not sure they’ll take off. Chill is a great condition to have since it bypasses Stab, but I’m not sure it will be enough.

Dragonhunter…I actually think they’ll be quite useful. In a large fight, they’re going to be immobilizing two targets on every shot; no cooldown. That alone is good enough since they’re not sacrificing any durability. The plentiful knockback and the reveal are just icing on the cake.

Chronomancers seem too conditional…the coordination required may make them not worth the trouble. There’s some cool stuff, yes, but I really can’t be bothered with it.

Scrappers have stealth so they’ll be everywhere.

Druids…it really depends on how much they heal. Walls are nice, but most of the damage in a large fight comes from AoE, ground target abilities. Walls won’t do much there. It might work if they’re bunker builds, but I’m not sure.

Berserkers will be great because warrior in general are always safe to include. Also, burning is crazy good right now and that seems to be their thing.

In the current meta, definitely herald, maybe druid.

If the meta moves away from ranged back towards more of a ball type meta you can probably add tempest to that.

In terms of elite spec, druid will start to replace ele as the healer/support player while ele can start becoming the main CC bot rather than needing to provide water fields. Currently you need to time ele cooldowns between pushing with the ele cc or pulling back with the ele waterfield. It’ll become easier on the eles to just provide CC and damage rather than having to provide CC, damage AND healing.

Tempest will not see any play. It’s useless.

Chronomancer will be used mainly in small ops of groups sized 5-10. Any larger and regular mesmer specs will start to outshine chronomancer.

Dragonhunter will be useless in zergs but will be pretty strong as a burn guardian roamer spec.

Thieves will be thieves and Daredevil will still be a roamer spec.

Reaper might see some use from pugs wanting to play a tanky frontline necro, but won’t see much use from organised guilds. Traditional necros are too strong to swap out.

Berserker will only be used for roaming. Warhorn on warrior is too useful for the condi clear and blast finisher.

Scrapper might see some play to counter veils. I don’t see it as super useful, but it will definitely have a niche.

Herald – Boon Machine – yes
Druid – CC/Support/Heals, yes
Chronomancer – New Necro with more funsies – yes
Berzerker – Its a Warrior – yes
Scrapper – Hard to say but it looks pretty awesome so – yes
Reaper – Melee Necro I’m thinking wells will still be more important – Roaming
Daredevil – I don’t play thief so don’t know – Maybe Roaming
Tempest – Loooooool – Maybe Roaming
Dragon Hunter – I don’t even – Maybe roaming

Reapers- They’ll be very fun to use like the dark knight at the frontline. But they still lack any support and backline necro will likely still be better at the necro role.

Chrono- Some of the wells sound pretty crazy. It might just be enough to warrant them a spot in the zerg for other things than portals and veils.

Druid- If one thing could shake up the meta it will probably be this one. As some have said above it depends on the numbers.

Dragon Hunters- Honestly i don’t think so. There are backliners that are way better at its job and frontliners still want staff+ a melee weapon.

Temperst- I actually believe that frontline auras will be a thing. If it will be meta meta is questionable but there is a chance.

Scrappers- They will be fun the way reapers are but hardly meta. As it stands guards are boon bots and warriors have res banners. What does the scrapper bring? Gyros.. ok

Daredevil- Don’t think so.

Berserker- no idea

Then again roaming is an entirely different story.

Alrighty awesome! Thanks for all the replies so far.
If you want a solid spot in a GvG WvW guild its always safe to bet on the GWEN.
Alot of you stayed positive that scrapper, druid and revenant could be welcomed!

i belive in scrapper, a remote stomp/rezz every 30 seconds could be a usefull thing.
and we have lot’s of lightning fields and a crazy whirl finishers…. RIP Stability
