Which users will stop playing?
You can never make everyone happy, and they’re more likely to lose the hardcore WvWers.
I’m not seeing that many zerging complaints, forums have pretty much gone back to normal as i see it.
Make the number of maps (with smaller population limit than now) dynamic.
Whenever the servers have a queue for all WvW-Maps a new server start a new WvW-map. While they are active they produce score-ticker as usual.
When the population shrinks the map saves it’s state and is shut down and the remaining people are distributed over the still active maps or Lion’s Arch.
=> Less Culling and Laag problems, due to reduced population per map.
=> Less Queues due to additional dynamic maps
=> Less PvD, as the maps are shutdown while there isn’t enough mass to fight.

Theres definitely going to be a lot of problems with this system, if you want it to work you need to think it through better. For example if one server was doing very well on the extra map and it went to a saved state then does the score for the map still count? If it does then the other 2 servers wouldn’t be able to do anything to recapture the map until population increases. If it doesn’t then the server that put in the effort to capture the dynamic map will see their effort wasted. And the shutting down part can be quite irritating for the player on the map. I can already see a lot of ppl complaining.
No score-ticker for offline maps, but they are saved and resumed in this state, when it goes online again. So you get your points while you are fighting (i.e. the map is active) and you get it back in this state, whenever it is needed. But you do not get so many points for capturing it and going to bed as you get them now. I see this even as an advantage.
I guess it can only work for EB. The 3 borderlands are always active, the number of active EB maps varies from 0 to whatever primetime population needs.
They are going to lose their pvp base. Their pvp is very boring and i am not even competitive in it. I still really like the game but I don’t long on every day even now. I am bored. My wvw is either dead with no one playing or fun for maybe an hour and then dies. Spvp is fun for maybe 30mins to an hour but has no reward for me to really find myself wanting to go play it. Even in wow I could take my low characters in to pvp matchs and have fun, gain experience, and money/gear to use outside the pvp area.. I am not sure why that is such a no no here.
So anyone who enjoys pvp, even casually imo, can get bored easily and begin to search for greener pastures.
WvW players are the first to go.
I say that because that’s the ones in our guild we’ve lost. Culling, que bugs, lack of effective grouping systems… all reasons they left.
One guy was so frustrated with the culling and being killed by invisible enemies that he deleted all his characters and uninstalled on the spot. Frustration.. makes us crazy sometimes.
Well, if someone quits, you’ve already lost. You bought the game. Improvements will be made and people that keep GW2 installed and keep coming back to play will be the ones who’ve won in this situation.
Order of severity:
1. Not being able to play period (whatever they temporarily broke queues with and never admitted to for example).
2. Culling. Not seeing people killing you is a huge problem. Not seeing friendlies to coordinate with is another.
I could care less about zergs if I can see them and react to them. Yes, the maps need to be made larger and some game play added to reduce the desirability of zerging. This however is more of a long term need than an immediate one.
My server’s WvW folk are actually really happy.
For people who transferred to servers that have tons of WvW people and now are like “Queues are worse than before!” and “Zergs are worse than before!” and “Culling is worse than before!” well, I dunno, your problems are different than mine and what did you expect?
If there is a big with queues, then yeah, that’s a complaint. Though since I hardly ever queue, I don’t have an opinion on that problem.

Loss of people is loss of revenue even on non-subscription games.
No purchasing of:
- cash shop items
- expansions
While you could argue that’s not that much considering the amount of people who bought the game in the first place, there’s more involved.
There’s people like me, who are still playing, but i don’t intend to buy any expansions for example. (I’ve never intended to use the cash shop)
Also future games: “Remember how they treated your favourite part in Guild Wars 2?”
As people quit, servers will become emptier, and because of this other people will have less fun – or transfer. Transfering might be revenue, but it’s always a big deal when popular games have server merges, or simply empty servers. Yay for ghost towns.
I don’t regret having boguht the game, but at the same time, I’m not going to spend more money on it.
BTW its the PVE and WvW base that brings in the cash shop money. Nothing for SPvP in the cash shop. I don’t think Arenanet is going to lose in revenue here.

I’ve seen no evidence at all to support your comment.

They’ll be able to see the improvements made to the WvW system. With an open mind, it’s bound to get better as they’ve no doubt recognized that WvW is a popular thing. Yes, one could argue that nothing has been done so far but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t something in the pipeline. Chins up, it could be worse. If we were paying monthly then I could see where people might truly be getting angry at this point but for the most part our experiences in WvW have been free.
I’d argue spvp players will get fed up before wvw ones will. Granted the hardcore wvw players will probably move on the moment eso goes live anyways.

Yea WvWers will mass exodus when ESO hits. WvW cannot be fixed because it was designed to be a casual gametype. It was not meant to be competitive, but that’s what the player base wants. We want competitive, mass PvP.

Nah there was an actual bug with queues or they changed map capacity hoping nobody would notice. They were quiet about it when it happened, and equally quiet about it when it disappeared.
T1 / T2 example most nights (not reset night)
Before – 15-30 minutes avg
During – 1-3 hours
Now – 15-30 minutes avg
Everyone noticed it except for the servers with extremely low WvW populations.
Some servers have huge population advantages during certain peek times in their tier. Last week— they were all complaining about the que situation.
This week— the que situation seems to have died down and instead everyone else is complaining about the zergs and that its not fun anymore.
Can Anet find a solution to make everyone happy? Will this clash of frustration be the undoing of gw2? Which group should be appeased if only one group can be made happy? Discuss.
Point 1. Our server is getting raged on for having huge off peak advantage.
Point 2. Our server is having que issues, last night prime time, the wait was 1/2 hour all bg’s.
Point 3. My solution would be to make the maps a bit larger. I could be wrong, but it might spread things out and make less zerg issues (and by default clipping). But, that is just a guess on my part. Maybe spreading things out might make smaller group type fights more viable.

Yeah, I don’t get why people are upset that the product they bought has all these little undocumented ‘bonus features’ that prevent them from experiencing the product as advertised. Especially not when ANet has knowingly made such features worse for a significant portion of their playerbase.

This wouldnt work because if your server is suddenly losing a map you could all just log out and kick the other team from it. Then after a bit log back into it, and have saved all your stuff from being taken, and start getting all those points again.

horrible idea, i wan them to get rid of the 4 different map (or really the one + three times one map) in favor of ONE big huge mag without limit to players.
a single huge map made of multiple map squares without ‘borders’ (walk from one map square to another without zoning) with 20+ Keeps and 80+ towers and 5-10 garisson type fortresses.
Camping a keep near you since 2001 !

Just curious, but why are so many people talking about ESO? The ES combat system is rather dull… is there some real info on ESO that people are taking to heart? I mean we should all be leary of new MMOs that generally do not live up to the expectations. Lets take Kurt Schilling and the State of Rhode Island.

ESO has promised mass open world PVP on a single megaserver. I predict that truly large scale fights will have problems simply becaue the architecture isn’t there.
They will also use dinamic number balance to prevent night caping, so that you can win if your players are good and not the band in the wagons transfers that we see here
