So, you used to be able to click “report” on enemy invaders and see their account name, and then manually type it in /w to whisper them. I used to use this all the time to whisper JP campers for a truce. But the feature has been removed..? whats the reason Anet.
Harassment. It is the reason we don’t have player names in WvW to start with. I followed an exploit portal to confirm that someone was exploiting and the resulting kitten-storm that landed on me because I was trying to confirm an exploit was unreal and it was player-generated from the “other-side” and highly undesirable.
I had a storm of six people scream at me for 20 minutes trying to confirm that someone needed to be reported to Anet. NO THANK YOU.
Thanks Anet.
I’m kinda sad about this… Cause we did manage to get something clarified with the other team lol. Hai, Coral. Get online, smelly ^^
I’m all for the change. Got tired of people spamming me after I ganked them.
Everyone gets ganked at some point. Just let it go…
This was obviously never suppose to be possible in the first place. It wasn’t a feature, it was an overlooked loophole they closed. If you were supposed to be able to whisper enemies in wvwvw right clciking their name would have given you the ‘whisper’ option.
this is serious bullkitten, beeing able to chat with the enemy makes things much more interesting
This kind of makes me sad. I met some pretty cool people this way.
In the same respect, I had some pretty mad thieves message me before as well. So I guess it goes both ways.
But, If I had to choose, I would have rather had kept it, I can take the ragers if I can meet some pretty cool people from other servers. I’ve even been complimented from another server as well.
I would prefer it if names were actually displayed in WvW. But if they are to be hidden, so should the ability to find their names through reporting as well.

Anything really. Got spammed for dropping a trebuchet once to take down an enemy wall about 3 weeks back… probably the most irrational whisper reason so far with siege weaponry being “for maggots” (replace a letter).
Yeah, I’m all for the change. On the forums here most of us seem to get along fairly well in our server threads for the battles that week. In-game though I’d have to say the ratio for terrible whispers vs polite ones was probably around 20-1 in favor of the angry bile filled ones.
The other servers can keep those and I’ll live without the whisper loophole.

The change has nothing to do with whether you think you should be able to whisper them. If you think you should be able to talk to enemies, their names should be displayed.
CLEARLY they did not want for you to be able to whisper enemy players….so using the report function was a “work around” (Exploit) to get around that. To argue otherwise is just lying to yourself. So they are merely fixing their system.
If you want to argue that we should be able to talk to enemies (Which I am personally of mixed opinion about), that is a completely different issue. This was a fix, you are talking about a change to their whole system.
I would imagine it’s to prevent griefing and possibly an attempt to curtail spying.
I’ll miss my lovely conversations with people on the enemy team whilst doing jump puzzles. It helped a lot to coordinate rushes from players from one enemy server to assist in rushing the players from the other enemy server that were camping as well as out numbering us combined. It really did make things more interesting than the age old ‘red is dead.’ Rather, ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend.’ To mix things up a bit.
Of course, people are always going to abuse it. By harassing others. This is why we can’t have nice things.

I still cant understand how people get their feelings hurt in a video game.
Some of my favorite moments in DAOC were rivalry fights with people i knew.
Everyone might as well be a robot now.
I had some whispers but never had a griefing of any kind, like that would be a problem anyway? Or should people rage even for emotes? xD
I am not happy about this change.
I actually had some really good conversations with skilled players from other realms that I would come across. And really, there is nothing more satisfying then getting rage tells from a guy that you utterly destroyed…or getting revenge on a guy that mocked you after he killed you.
And I mean, if you felt harassed there is always /ignore.
I think it royally sucks that everyone gets the ability to talk to other servers removed, just because someone may get “offended” one day. Why not make a toggle that allows your name to be shown in WvW if you want?
There was some talk from Anet about allowing custom dye’s in WvW in the future. Hopefully this is the start of more identification in WvW. I had irl friends on my social tab from other servers that have been removed as well. It sucks but hopefully they will change WvW to be less generic in the future. I can handle 50 hate messages for the one that is awesome. Well worth it.

There’s a large difference between “getting your feelings hurt” and just not wanting to deal with the garbage that comes out of kids mouth’s. Basically it prevents you from seeing a large amount of visual vomit as kids can no longer text kitten your monitor with their poor upbringing.

If that is such a major concern for you…then you may want to stay away from online gaming. You will run into this crap on your own server.
That said, I can understand that some people just don’t want to deal with texts from the other servers. And for those people, a checkbox to hide your name would work wonders. All I’m saying is that I’m annoyed that they removed the ability to talk between servers for EVERYONE, when it was probably a very small minority that actually had an issue with it.
Great change, saves me from having to put my status on invisible during WvW due to the kittentorm people whisper me after I kill them.

I dunno, maybe our experiences are different, but I have killed lots and lots of people in WvW since release…and I think maybe ONE has sent me a rude message. And TBH, I took it as a complement lol.
I just feel like this makes the game less interesting. Instead of fighting dynamic people that can complement you, insult you, try to form alliances, etc…it now feels like we are fighting MOBs with really advanced AI.
I don’t see why showing names in WvW couldn’t be a toggle option in settings. It would make everyone happy. They still can’t whisper you, they only know the char name. Then they just need server forums for @posts. No one has to click on them if they don’t want to and you can hide your name from WvW via options if you don’t want to deal with it.
If you remove the ability to message each other then you remove the opportunity for us to have some of the most fun we’ve ever had in this game…
How are we ever going to do this without being able to message the other server?
Organize it on the forums. Add the person’s ID to form a party.

They removed any people from my friends list that were on other servers. I assume you can’t add them now?
I dislike this change.
How already said, it was nice to chat with the enemy and give/get respect for the fights we had.
It was also fun to have small but funny flame-fights like “your server only wins because you have like 40 players on ech boarderlands during night while we dont”, or “Do you even see your enemy while useing this turtel tactic?”
Oh well, Arena.net is an american company, so I think its normal that they are a bit conservative prudish
My favorite was getting:
“What u gunna do when dey fix stealth”
I then replied in vast detail about my zero stealth build I had been testing in sPvP. This apparently disarmed him and we ended up just chatting like normal people.
