I haven’t really been paying attention to it to be honest, I’ve been so focused on getting my ascended weapon – and if you take the leagues serious and see the outnumbered buff – it’s upsetting, Lately when i find myself too frustrated with stuff, i just log off and do a rant post on the forum of whatever upset me that night lol. – most recent is the skill lag and disconnects in pve. – let’s see what kittens me off tonight heh!!
The new people in wvw was actually a pleasure – but again if you focus on the score and the leagues – you wish they just learned months of stuff in one day – so another reason to not think about it.

Nor do i think the rewards for the meta should be any different from server to server, based on said position.
Population and timezone imbalance really makes half of these match-ups a non-contest and until that is partially sorted, there isn’t any real way to gauge how good any of the servers really are (minus a few).
At the end of the day, this really has the potential to sour the wvw experience and cause massive elitism.

Enjoyed the previous matchmaking system more. Yes we played the same servers over and over but atleast they were fun matchups. So far every week of league has been a blowout putting us against a much higher ranked/populated server. On top of that we been green every week and can’t get more than 40ish players on our boarderland cus of the bug.
Hate what the season has brought to wvw. As I semi interested wvwer (highest rank is 81), the achievements have brought in too many goals that can be counter productive. That has led to some toxicity in wvw chat towards new players to wvw who simply may not know….. Good luck ever getting them back…..
Kinda ruined WvW for me, actually. I used to be able to rely on WvW for reliable fun. Now its either my server sandbagging because we’re too far behind, sandbagging because we’re too far ahead, or the queue is impenetrable. I havn’t had real fun in WvW since leagues started.
So I’ve gone back to playing Planetside 2 until the league is over and done with. What a failure.
love it. It has brought more people into wvw, and the scoring system (5/3/1) is better than the glico system.
Wish it could be more competitive, but they can iron that stuff out for the next season. Right now, the matches are no different than the rng ones, but with better scoring, and prizes at the end.
My guild could care less about a shiny Dolyak, and the fights are as they always were.
I don’t really feel like the Leagues had any positive effects on a lot of things, and little effect on others. Take the BG/SoR thread of the week – It’s past 1000 posts of utter nonsense and it’s barely Monday. We’re reaching an entirely new level of awful in there. And if either server wins, the chest thumping will just get worse.
The good is that people seem a lot more motivated now that there’s something more than just the match of the week to win. I’ve gotten in some good fights over the past few weeks. For example, I had a good 1:1 earlier this evening with a elementalist that was back and forth until I managed to lure him into a couple of wandering guards. (I hope he realized that my bow emote was for a good fight and not mocking him.) It’s also good to have personal goals in the form of the season achievements.
The bad is that the season achievements often are counter to the playing that you need to actually win, leading to frustration when you should’ve been able to cap a tower, but too many were off capping a sentry or yak and you got repelled instead. Or they are mindlessly repetitive (ruin capping..ugh). There’s even more zerging than usual and the karma train can get old.
The last one may not be an effect of the league, just the servers that we’re matched up with, but seen a lot more hacking than I have in months (since the last match up with FC with players literally running through walls).
League has really turned me off WvW, besides the obvious forum vitriol, all these accusations and “drives” to pay masses of people and guilds to come to one server or another really kills any sense of “community”.
Having played Warhammer (as bad as it was the RvR could get pretty good), GW2’s WvW has been a letdown overall, but at least until transfers got heavy you could count on at least seeing the same people.
With league, all that plus the arcade-y aspect of WvW has gotten worse, I’ve logged in maybe 2 hours over the past 2 weeks, vs. the daily 3-5 last year.

A “league” for a persistent 24/7 open world pvp game mode with a hugely imbalance of player populations. Utterly ridiculous, ludicrous, preposterous, outrageous, and nonsensical. (Yes I used thesaurus.com)
For instance; Yesterday our keep was attacked by both other servers, walls were taken down on both sides, and a battle took place that lasted around 3 hours with waves of enemies trying to take our keep. Very tense, a lot of fun. In the end we kept our keep, against all odds, which was icing on the cake.
A few days ago, we had a fully upgraded SM, and have been defending it for the most part of the day. Large scale battles here too, where I was on the top building trebs and shooting large zergs with 50+ people attacking in waves.
Due to the league, maps are almost 24/7 full and contributing to a fun experience.

It isn’t the league play bringing people to WvW, it’s the new achievement points. Once those boxes have been ticked the AP locusts will move on to the next great temporary thing.

And yet said APs are part of the league, thus they count.
And no, not everyone will move on. The league is a great way to get PvE:ers to try WvW, and it is quite likely that some of them will see that they like it and start playing WvW regularly.

Yes it is good. I played a bit more than usual because of the achievements. Also I like defensive play style more(I’m engineer and I want to shoot those big cannons at keep because my rifle is too small!) Also this week we had some good commanders so far and even yesterday we were able to retake and fully upgrade the keep and 1 or 2 towers at EB(last matchups – even first match against weaker servers – we always were outnumbered starting sunday/monday). We even had short queue EB. I did stuff I usually don’t do: Pay for some of the cheaper upgrades at camps and towers and speeding dolyaks and learnd that this stuff also is fun even if no enemy is attacking. Lol(and I’m fast to cap the merc camps for achievement if I stay at the tower).
It is starting to get better. Need more people to also fill borderlands so we can be present on 2 maps… and more people for night. Reward system sucks cause because it rewards for better coverage… but if it’s only some useless finisher I don’t care.
Since my server lost all major guilds that played WvW and we are constantly outnumbered thanks to the people who left, we can’t even resist other servers.
So my experience is terrible. Many people on my server also.

Not liking it, and I don’t care about the rewards. These same rewards changed a lot of people’s attitudes about the same broken game as if its suddenly and magically not about coverage. So far its been:
- Insane queues
- laggy, zergy fights
- boredom because by Monday the winner is decided
I wish Anet would pull their heads out of the kittens and realize it’s fail game design to push something so imbalanced as competitive, it’s not and never will be, it shouldn’t have been like this even for casual play. Some of the new players will see this in time and get turned off too.
Long queues, zergs everywhere and when I do find a 1vX fight it is frequently a pack of new players. The first league week blew with long queues and a large population imbalance. Second was OK but we were more evenly matched. Third week has been another giant mismatch with enemy zergs everywhere.
I am a daily WvW player (mostly) and probably will not WvW much until the league is over. I am sure some are enjoying it more but it really isn’t my scene. Much of my guild has started playing Path of Exile in the meantime.

For me, while in, its been amazing. Some of the best moments so far in playing the game. For me as a guildy, bad, our guild can’t get on to run as a guild. I don’t mind the laggy zerg fights as everyone is laggy equally. If it was one sided lag I would have an issue.
I’ve found myself playing WvW far less than I did before leagues and I used to spend 80% of my time in Gw2 in WvW. So I’m playing GW2 less now. But I like the idea and I can’t exactly pinpoint why WvW isn’t as fun anymore.

1. Queue, which we know they are currently working on.
2. Put a handicap system in place, so every server in league as a chance of winning. Probably never do this because then people would not buy gems to change servers.
I feel the matchups are horrible. First we steamrolled the enemy, which was not fun and got almost no XP, now we are steamrolled which is even less fun and no XP as well.

*1st Matchup should be random for each league
*The winner of each round goes up and the loser goes down
*This way it will work like a game of football where losing will really be painful

I like wvw did before and still do but hating the queue’s it’s impossible to get friends in together because of the insane queue system where some will get in in a short time and some take 2 hours despite queueing at the same time.
Please please please make the queue system in order of who clicks in what order and implement some sort of ETA for the queue length at least that way i know whether i should go do something else which might take a while or if it’s short i can just potter around.
Stuff like this like first come first served and some form of ETA should have been easy to implement ages ago at least we’d know then and if we as a group all click queue at the same time we might get in at roughly the same time
That said when I do get in and some nights I really enjoy WvW. Someone mentioned the fight over our keep with Underworld and Aurora Glade constantly attacking for 3 hours that was amazing fun.
i don’t always get in because when i get in from work and put my daughter to bed its peak time and it’s impossible some nights. it does seem to penalise more casual players.
Perhaps the leagues could maybe limited to 6 servers and over 4 weeks instead of 7 to close up some of the match ups a little
Strange people saying they will play more once the league is finished, as far as i am aware when this league finishes then season 2 will start a new with new achievements. maybe the last few weeks of the league season will be easier to get on as the AP hunters will have moved on
I personally hate it. Queues that were an hour long are now 4 hours long. And now that all the pve’ers have their achievements done, we have lost one of the most important match there was.
This league is like inviting someone to your house and then showing them the “embarrassing junk room”. Why it was even started now when wvw is completely broken is beyond me. In the long run I really think its going to drive people away from the game in droves more than anything to date. It has brought out the worst in the communities and exhibited the glaring shortcomings of the game mode and the engine. I know on my home server entire guilds are walking away from wvw and in some cases the game more than I have seen since launch. I also regularly guest on two other servers with friends and they are having the same issue. I was fun for a week or two but now the bigger servers have sufficiently bought there win and most every match is a blow out every week. Being in a smaller guild there is nothing you can do to even remotely effect anything and we usually end up logging out to play lol after a half hour or getting farmed 3v1+. GG the only end game this game had just died.
It has brought new people into WvW…we don’t really have much of a queue issue at all.
I like the new point system over glicko…although I think the scoring system itself needs to be redone at some point or the population balance needs to be dealt with..
Overall it is FAR more fun the the stale matchups we used to get…lol…
There is NO WAY I want to go back to the stale same servers OVER AND OVER again with no change practically ever…
I think it’s great. Knowing who we’ll fight every week, before we start the week, has been very nice. It’s also great to see how we’re stacking up against the other servers even though we’re probably going to come in 5th in the gold league.
