Situational question:

In a small group of say, 3v3, (between , hypothetically speaking – no heavies – a necro, ranger, and ele) in WvW, who, if anyone, would you expect to call targets?

I would argue whoever is on the “front line” should do it. They will technically be rotating skills/cooling down first, so the ranger, or whoever is behind, should supplement that. Front liners also have the best view.

Does anyone disagree and think it’s the rangers responsibility to call targets?

Not saying there’s a right/wrong. I understand it means less as the number of participants go up. Just curious what some of the more seasoned players think is the most efficient/makes the most sense.

The leader or driver. I run a group of generally 3-8 people and I lead the group around and call the targets.

Edit: Easier answer is whoever is best at calling the most high-value targets. Usually a “good” leader or driver does this.

I also think it is job for group leader.

The anchor should call target which isn’t necessarily the leader. Anchors are typically the most bunker and least mobile in the group. Anchors focus on the battle and the other players focus on being around the anchor.

Often the anchor and the leader are the same person. In our group I drive but another person on our team manages the battle since I run an high mobility evasion build that is difficult for others to stay tethered to.

Usually the beast of the group, first guy in who is a solid tank and can take some punishment and manages their skills well. If the fight is long I always thought it’s a free for all and anyone in my party should target the opponent with the lowest health so we could focus fire them since things can get chaotic at times.

If you’ve got someone who has a good feel for the flow of the fight and is aware enough to watch for important cooldowns being used, he/she should be calling targets. Really anyone who has strong awareness and positioning can call targets but it’s often best to keep it simple. Usually my group runs 5-8 people, 3 of which call targets with any regularity. Of course we’ll all converge and focus on downed enemies, but most targeting is done by our Scrapper and Reapers.
