Back from a break, looking at wvw’s state and still the same problems :

- condis are way too overpowered because of hots’s gears ;
- population’s balance is still a mess ;
- desert bl still too large unless you like to run ;
- Boonsharing still not fixed after 1 year.

I gave some credits to the wvw’s team at the beginning, but forced to see they do nothing that could bring wvw back to the downstate.

Well we really won’t know who will be the next to leave. After all is said and done, the ones that threaten to leave continue to play the game and complain and continue to threaten to leave. The ones that do leave just leave.

From all I’ve seen with people saying they are “done with this game”… they keep coming back to both play and whine. It is what it is..

imo all games have issues with people. Can’t please them all. I really can’t stand most of the stuff that’s going on with WvW but I won’t threaten to quit because frankly even with all the pain I still like it best.

I agree with most of your points but I am finding condi far less problematic in small scale compared to bunker and defensive sustain builds. I believe if they toned down Mesmer Confusion spam, the condi issue wouldn’t be a serious issue.

Condi is a non-issue in large scale.

antidote.7201, condi in large scale does not do the damage aloe, it is the sum of all aoe being re-pammed in short time.

Ill keep saying reduce all classes cleave/aoe and tweak eles to a better defined role.
Theres to much spam in this game.

If you take out aoes the zergs/blobs will become even more powerful and unstoppable with the boon sharing meta in place. Elementalist already seeing their roles reduced as most commanders want more guardians, revenants, necros to play/deal with the meta.

Condition is powerful in the smaller group settings, for zergs they are pointless because of the amount of cleanse and resistance going around.

I don’t know about you but I’ve been playing WvW for over 3 years now and MOST of the people I started playing with then are still playing. I would love to see this evidence of yours. I know of two people who have completely quit this game due to the HoT expansion and the changes to WvW at the time. Other than that everyone I knew back then is still playing.. and it’s not a small number of people.

… and yes, all of us are still hoping for some things to change for even better… in the meantime we still like WvW and get what we can out of it. This, like all games, has plenty of flaws, but it also has plenty of fun for people that don’t require perfection (that will never exist).

Totally agree on this. It’s a cheesy way to play but since it’s been created of course people will use it. Like mesmer, the thief should be unstealthed the moment it scores a hit on a target.

Well yeah stealth is a favorite tool of the devs. Just watch how much garbage stealth has been added since vanilla launch. (including certain guild upgrades to give culling back)

Class balance is good in wvw. Except for mesmers. Depressing when you see you’re hardest hitting abilities do less than 3k damage to a moron just spamming 1.

You make valid points, especially the anet not working at the pace we want. But what anet has to realize is the gaming world is very….very fast paced and they must keep up with the demand of the gamers. Messing around and not having a clear plan results in players getting bored, leaving or reducing gameplay. Let’s face it, once you give up on wvw, you come back and you just are not that interested. They are really dropping the ball here.

I realize a lot of the Camelot and crowfall games are a ways out, but at the end of the day gamers are talking about those games and look forward to them. The more anet neglects the easier it is for us to give those other games a shot and put our $$$ into them.

You make valid points, especially the anet not working at the pace we want. I completely agree with you.

People love to complain, it is natural. That doesn’t mean that there are not any glaring issues that the players are all facing with regards to WvW. It is a stale format with 4 years of the same old thing. Nothing new let alone exciting with more and more issues facing the few remaining dedicated players. Wait, let me redact my bias and/or opinion regarding “few remaining”. I don’t know how many are playing still vs just transferring so that was wrong of me.

I play on Ebay since open beta’s and not moving. I’ll say that what was once a thriving server has shed players over the years for many reasons all servers share. Drama, egos, breaks, real life, transfer, you name it. Not unique. But I will say it hit the server hard and hasn’t seem to recover. Again, not unique. Someone has to be the highest populated, and someone has to be the least. In the middle is the wall most servers continue to hit. Can’t move up because when they do they get the crap beat out of them. They fall down, beat those servers up while climbing the ladder only to be bumped up back to where they get beat back down. It is that preverbal wall that is population + wall clock that you just can’t beat no matter how skilled your players are or effort. Just can’t beat it.

So now factor in there is no game with similar format of play out or in Beta you are sort of suck with a tough decision. Stay and fight it out or leave. That is about it and the cards we are all dealt. There is a game coming who set the standard of this format and one for which they also tried to copy. However, it is at least a year out if not more. It too may have similar issues although one thing is for sure it won’t have PvE attached so at least there is one less thing to balance, right?

Grass isn’t always greener. In games or on servers. The glaring issue I like to point out, again, personal opinion, is that WvW has been neglected and not had any real development effort or money thrown its way since launch. You need both to make this work.

Most of my guild stopped playing WvW regularly in part due to how frustrating the game mode had become. I remember it was about a month after the June 2015 specialisation update when the majority left, unwilling to deal with the class imbalances introduced with the change. Then HoT hit and some of them attempted WvW again but then swiftly stopped because the elite specialisations and Revenants just turned WvW into an utter mess. Anet allowed the balance issues in WvW to get way out of hand and now it is a poorer experience because of it.

I mainly play less now because of how unsatisfying the combat has become. Direct damage is far too high in WvW and it’s all so incredibly easy to deliver this massive damage now whilst also having access to all the sustain you could ever need without having to really bother with toughness or vitality. Everything feels like both a chore and deeply unfair at the same time. Waiting 27 years for the immunities, blocks and evade spam of everything to end whilst also being able to immediately kill something with 2 hits is just such an unexciting gameplay experience.

The majority of my guild has completely turned over in the last 3 years and most of the players I’ve run with are no longer in the game, thats been on SOR and JQ.

Off the top of my head… Team Legacy, Ruin and Goonsquad. That’s over a thousand people in a short sentence, which is more than this debate warrants.

That’s why zergs have revs spamming resistance. Unless you talking about unorganized pug mobs… But then again, guild groups were always able to kill pug mobs.

I’m on my 3rd account, but I still play. Took a hiatus when alot of our guild [STUN] broke off to play ESO. I came back because I enjoy the action combat here more, and I like to learn what i can from the good players who still play and lead.

However I think i know what DeceiverX is getting at … and he’s right, many fight guilds left the game. Some stayed but many broke off. I don’t know if perhaps they reformed under new tags, but guilds like EXS, HB (are they still around), Choo, Hymm, VR, KH, Agg, NS, CB … I don’t think any are around. I believe some of the players who still play have reformed with other guilds.

I give major props to guilds like TW, GS, OnS, GoF, and others who are still around and still playing somewhat regularly. Shows there long standing persistence of the guilds.

But there are new guilds who have come up since those long days past.

I play less and less.
I used to roam a lot but facing the same old cheese everyday just pushed me out of this game mode.
It’s cancer or blob.
And with the new NA T4 pairing, I’m pretty sure I’ll spend most of my time in pve now.

I came to gw2 solely for wvw, it’s my favorite game mode out of any game, they didn’t take care of it and it’s dying. Not going to bother rehashing the good and the bad because it’s been sayed over and over in many threads for years now.

I had irl friends and familly playing this game arround 10-12 players that left the game also, and we played sice gw1.

That is what gw2 is, it segragates players to some kind of skrits that love everything unbalanced Anet does… all that matters is if theres shinies everything is escellent…

Frankly I think, after reading way too many of these forums, that condi has been the worst thing for WvW. I don’t know if that’s true for sure but it really does take a lot of skill out of a battle. Then there’s the boon-share and protection stuff that makes siege in keeps almost useless against big zergs so small groups of people can’t defend a keep well anymore… and the list continues.

Is it fair? Balanced? of course not… nothing in life is fair or balanced. But as far as this game goes what has changed for me is that when I come into GW2 both in PvE and in WvW I only do it to hang out with people I like. Sometimes I actually join up with a zerg but very rarely… I used to care about score but considering that winning/losing the week doesn’t get you anything more than a pat on the back by yourselves what does it matter really?

I like the roaming and fights in small groups. Sometimes defending just for the action. Especially since the server linkings. Now that my server does NOT have a “home” base anymore and is moved from host to host my ‘ownership’ of any spot in WvW doesn’t exist anymore. I simply play to hang with friends and have some fun, then leave.

First and foremost Mike o Brian has to understand and acknowledge that WvW<> PvE. Without that understanding all things Anet will do for WvW are doomed to fail.

I like the girls analysis below. She’s a bit giggly because of obvious reasons but she makes some very valid points, some are a bit overboard. Overall, I just enjoyed the video and it was funny. At the same time, it made me sad that players like this are quitting the game. I think the best line in her video “expansions are suppose to bring players in and bring excitement, not drive them away”.

The community just isn’t going to recover IMO in all modes. Anets done too much damage. HoT seemed to break gw2.

I think a lot of players in gw2 in general get stuck on this particular game mode. As a man who has dated, loved, been broken hearted, found a love again I can tell you Anet isn’t the only cute blonde in town. There’s plenty of fish in the sea, brunettes, red heads, black hair…..that got off tangent.

Ummm, anyway, there’s plenty of games out there and hobbies to start up. Don’t wait on anet to improve this game as they will/are breaking their own necks with poor decision making and following very bad advice or management clearly.

We all love wvw, but at the end of the day please open your eyes and close your wallet. This game mode is failing miserably. We have a company that is following marching orders from who knows. They’ve clearly tossed away their company philosophy, which attracted us to them in the first place with gw1. There’s been a turn in the tide, for the worst and they are clearly following that agenda without turning back.

Yeah me and like 18 others now from one WvW guild has moved to another MMO that have WvW-like support. The grind is real but so are the fights, and tactical plays that used to be in GW2 before HoT. Our server TS now has a good potion of players talking about looking for new games. The cancer forums have players talking about looking for new games. Yet ANet makes it appear as if they really could care less. Which gives me and the people I used to play GW2’s WvW with a sad face even time we think about it. kitten ANet like why? Why? Why? Why you forsake us? Was we your enemy? GW2 is unofficial now a PvE support only MMO game.

But in the end that group of players that moved to the other WvW-Like MMO are again having the time of there life. Enjoying the fact that this MMO punishes players from running away from fights to back cap undefended structures. Punishes players from zerging “Oh you want to run in groups of 30 plus well you get only 1/10 of the AP and exp/cxp of a group of only 12 or less players.” Punishes zerglings for sucking at the game by giving small groups of players the skills to overcome and curbstomp a blob in open field if the blob is just a bunch of players face rolling their keyboards.

Hmmm. ANet if people are having more fun with that gameplay. Would it not be more beneficial to you as a company to adjust to something like that, instead of continuously bleeding out players from all of your game modes except PvE? GW2 is still this game that has potential but is being held back by what ever, for what ever reasons only ANet knows.

However ANet I will continue to root for you and GW2, but now only from the sidelines! I do believe in you ANet, now you just have to believe in yourself.

This is precisely the thing that is lacking from WvW.

Love…or a place we Love to hang out at.

I believe…the Rich & “Deep Soul” of WvW is gone, or fading…while many of us…still linger…hoping that the joy it was before…will return…if ANet does something wonderful.

You remember…when once upon a time…Community meant something.

The HoT expansion “burned the game & killed her Guild”.

Many Small to Medium sized Guilds in Addition to many Lower Tiered Communities burned to the ground.

In a sense we lost the equivalent of an online pub, tavern, or bar.

We had a very grown-up place to go to socialize, fight, and share life.

Friday reset was a beer, shots, or favorite time to get drunk & scream with your best friends while attacking the new enemy for the week.

WvW is now a Host Lead Server Wack-a-Mole game.

Despite what many say…Server Identity did not lead to the demise of WvW…imho

The Fixed 3 Way Fight Model is what’s causing all our WvW Match-Ups to go stale based on basic player behavior…this is what is causing the demise of WvW.

ANet really needs to change this & take into account & design a Game Mode that allows Players to Drive the Match-Ups…yet…ANet to Control things.

Think about it…change the Fight Model mechanics & you can change the Match-Ups.

A better solution is to use a King of the Hill Fight Model…where…the stacking behavior of players won’t really matter…because everyone is stepping over each other to be the #1 Ranked World in EU or NA.

Make the FAT CAT Top Tier Servers earn their Rank in a King of the Hill Fight…and not allow them to straddle & hold hostage the whole WvW Universe…just because the World Servers in all the lower Tiers can’t attack them…while they Bully beat-down the two other Servers un-lucky to be stuck in the fighting ring with them.

WvW is evolving & loosing its “Deep Soul” to this Wack-a-Mole Game Mode that World Linking is encouraging…imho

Totally agree on this. It’s a cheesy way to play but since it’s been created of course people will use it. Like mesmer, the thief should be unstealthed the moment it scores a hit on a target.

I like the girls analysis below. She’s a bit giggly because of obvious reasons but she makes some very valid points, some are a bit overboard. Overall, I just enjoyed the video and it was funny. At the same time, it made me sad that players like this are quitting the game. I think the best line in her video “expansions are suppose to bring players in and bring excitement, not drive them away”.

The community just isn’t going to recover IMO in all modes. Anets done too much damage. HoT seemed to break gw2.

Didn´t know the video before, i feel sorry for this girl, she seems to have been really passionate about the game. But i can feel her point of frustration.

step 2: look at players history to see how many people have stopped playing
step 3: If its in black and white, its fact.
step 4: Lag, skill lag, new maps, same ol, same ol already killed half the wvw gamers
The reality is, a year ago, you couldn’t get into a bl because of que, now peak time, theirs no que, not even on EB, why….Anets idea of joining servers together, and creating even more disparity, and unmatched games. gg guys, seriously, stop rolling wvw in cotton wool and make it look pretty, its a sad fact, but after playing for 4 years, wvw looks nothing like it used to, now its just monoblob when you have 3 servers joined together against single servers, no skill required. No point in playing!!

My pve, wvw, whatever guild had 200+ members. Now, 3 actives and I’d say 90% of the guild hasn’t logged in 6 months or greater. It’s disheartening to see that many players just outright quit the game.

Belong to two other guilds, same story non-active for months.

Game is clearly going in the wrong direction. Seems even the pvers have valid concerns in reading their forum posts.
