Title: Why Fighting in the Jumping Puzzle Makes You Look Like *an Idiot

Before everyone tells me to stop complaining about PvP in PvP, the WvW jumping puzzles are the only ones that gives siege as a reward, and can be redone every day. It is PvE content with unique rewards. Anet did not try to balance the jumping puzzle to be fair for PvP (as a Guardian I have all sorts of ways I can knock people off the edge without trying).

1) It doesn’t help your team. The imaginary uselessness of blocking off the opponent from supplies they can get anyway in PvE is not even remotely worth wasting time you could be spending defending a supply camp.

2) Free siege helps everyone in WvW. Would you rather have everyone get free siege, or have everyone have to grind to get siege? That’s what I thought. Let’s let WvW be about tactics, not grinding.

3) What goes around comes around. You may feel special about yourself because your group of 5 ganked one guy trying to jump, but sometime in the future you will be ganked by a group bigger then you. That is, unless we all agree to not kill eachother.

4) You aren’t even rewarded for it. You MAY get a loot bag, but chasing somebody into the water to have a 10% chance to get a medal of honor means you are wasting time you could be spending doing more jumping puzzles for medals of honor.

My point is, you are not rewarded for fighting in the jumping puzzle. It accomplishes nothing but stopping somebody from having fun. If you kill people because it makes you happy that they are not having fun, please stop playing GW2. You are a stain on the community.

I can grind mats in PvE for siege and get much more siege per day. You aren’t stopping me from getting siege, you are just making the game worse for everyone on the other server.

I can grind mats in PvE for siege and get much more siege per day. You aren’t stopping me from getting siege, you are just making the game worse for everyone on the other server.

Then by all means do that instead and stop complaining about PvP in a PvP zone. If people want to do jumping puzzles with no trouble, there are plenty outside of WvW. In a competitive environment, not many players are going to stand around and let enemies get free weapons.

You do realize that the entire EB jumping “dungeon” (the one with the dark room, obsidian sanctuary I think) is filled with player usable traps, it was designed for that.

Yes, jumping puzzles give free siege, but they also give free siege to the “enemy” some may see cutting that supply of free blueprints as a viable tactic, which it is. This was probably the train of thought for the designers anyways. Note: the time someone spends grinding in PvE is time away from WvW which means less opposition, so your counter to this is void, the most goal oriented players will always take advantage of this. People hammering their head on the jumping puzzle are indeed not participating in defense, if you make sure they take the maximum time possible (before ideally giving up) it is beneficial for your team.

That said, siege weapons in jumping puzzle areas can frustrating… because the geography of them can allow siege to be placed in unreachable locations (since in combat jumps are shorter), especially in the one mentioned above, since it is all ready geared to the teeth with environmental hazards.

Yes, jumping puzzles are “griefers” wet dream, and you can be a real kitten to the opposition… that is one reason why player names are hidden. Maybe it is a kitten move, but it is a logical move.

You forgot the most important reason: it’s fun. Pissing people off with a knockback or just a regular attack that makes them fail the jump is a lot of fun. Though the most fun I’ve had was setting up shop at the very end and kill people 4-5 jumps away from the chest, you can almost feel the rage.

If you’re in the area too…well, sure. Attack if you want (although I’ve let some people from an undermanned server go out of some sense of honor, I suppose). But siege? Actually it’s a lot of fun. And while I dislike getting ganked in the puzzle, it’s also part of the experience and fun that should you die, you’d have to start all over again. I haven’t had butterflies running around a computer game since like… Kithicor in EQ.

If there was anything I’d complain about, it’d be camping the end. IMO it’d be more fun if there was a constant stream of battling—people going in and out and such—rather than a large group waiting at the end to gank anyone from the other servers that makes it that far.

Also, just as a side note, it’d also be cool if they gave traps to people behind others. Meaning atm you can only get hit by people ahead of you with traps. Why not let people behind you get to turn a spike trap on and watch you fail? It’d make it harder.

Actually the silliest thing to me is when they set up in a spot thats just not destroyable.
Because then I just go back to taking all of their bases outside the jump puzzle.
The only thing they have accomplished is denying me 2 additional siege (which I already have tons of) while denying their team 3+ players that they sorely need.

Now lets say server 1 control all four jumping puzzle for one one week without letting even one other opponent from other server from reaching that goal. And during that time, 1000 of their own players has done the puzzle all 7 seven days during that week. That is 56k siege weaponry free for them during that week. Do you understand now even though this is extreme.

Traps are there for a reason. If by unique you mean the same stuff you can buy cheaply and therefore not unique at all then okay. If you don’t want to PvP then don’t queue for WvW. No, there is no reason to call a truce for anything. It sounds like you want to play PvE.

1) It does help my team because it hurts your team, gets badges for me, and if I’m successful at the end, gets free blueprints for me. Not unique rewards in any way, but advantageous.

2) Free siege helps those who obtain it and nobody else. The cost of siege won’t affect whether you drop it or not, you’re either on a competitive server which will be sieging 24/7 no matter the cost or you are on a faceroll server where nothing is happening anyway.

3) Yes, it does! I WANT people to try to camp me and my group in PvP. I want dynamic, chaotic fights where I have no idea what’s around that next corner, this is why you queue for WvW. You want to have those epic memories of chasing someone through traps and jumps and all sorts of varied terrain. That means, sometimes, you get your butt kicked.

4) Killing you is a reward in itself. It’s why you’re playing PvP at all. Badges are a cherry.

You sound like you want to go play something easier, like WoW. When you queue’d for pvp you gave up your right to be happy 24/7 – you either stomp or you get stomped. There will be days where one or the other happens, and days where both happens. PvP does not mean “fighting whenever I feel like it and on my terms and only if I will enjoy the outcome.”

The difference is that the amount of their players who would get through the jump puzzle if they werent camping it is probably pretty similar to what it would be if they werent. So their overall amounts of siege is still pretty constant. Not to mention, the more people who go do the jump puzzle, the less people they have out on the map. Which makes a hell of a lot of difference during the times I play (when I play, neither team is fielding more than about 30-40 people at any one time. Those 3-5 people camping can make a ton of difference if they were actually somewhere useful)

The jumping puzzle in EB was CLEARLY designed for PvP, or else why put in all the PLAYER ACTIVATED TRAPS? This is meant to be a unique PvP experience that has a great reward at the end to draw players in. The only issue I have with the EB jumping puzzle is that it takes up a slot in EB from someone looking to fight in the actual WvW match. EB jumping puzzle should be it’s own instance with it’s own cap that you can enter from Lion’s Arch or something…but only when you have a keep on EB.

It’s people like this that make it so beautiful to run the puzzles alongside enemies that do not try to gank me. It’s also from people like this that I get great enjoyment from facerolling them as a kitten or while reading a book when they try to pick a fight or camp me.

Naw ya won’t.. thats why jack offs like you hang out in places like the jumping puzzle for your kills. If you were any good you’d be raking them in by the hundreds per minute like normal skilled players are with sieges and heavy enemy population. Or you’d be in a small team making stealth strikes on dolyaks… there are 100 different ways you could actually be making use of your Q slot better than being in the jumpnig puzzle jacking off on easy kills. I know ppl are gonna do it, and that doesnt bother me. But seeing the jackoff claim to be “skilled” at the same time just makes me laugh and have to call BS.

I m not worried. Do what you like. But if you were on my server I’d do everything I could to keep you from ever Qing into my world’s WvWs. Cuz little jackoff kittenes like you go giggle yourself crazy wasting a Q slot doing nothing of value relative to what you could. And on an actual competetive server, that makes a difference. If you’re there and take a kill of opportunity for strategic reasons, thats one thing. But don’t get all big heady like you just did something so WE BETTER WATCH IN ON LAND SKY OR SEA!!! Grub give’s a siege reward to if you contribute enough.
You can also buy some at the vendors at spawn locations.

Horrible idea to put pve stuff inside pvp zone’s.

It only provokes flames not to mention when more and more people are trying it your server is losing to many people participating in a battle and that creates a shift in power and advantage for opponents.

Hope the pve players understand that nothing is more fun them griefing pve players

When they put jumping puzzles, vistas, skill points etc in a WvW map – it is because they want them to be fought for/over and camped.
I’ve not done those puzzles yet, because I always run in to too much opposition – but well, that is exactly the name of the game.

It’s not like you loose out on much if you can’t get it done; as said by the OP himself – just go buy the siege with a bit of in-game currency.

Fighting in the EB battlegrounds is fun as hell. I typically go in alone and grab invisibility buffs. I will sneak past large group of 5-10 players who actively camp. The individuals that camp are great to take out and then move on. Once completed just go back to the war and help win!

Seeing how much the OP is irked (thus making this topic) shows exactly why people will continue disrupting puzzle jumping. It’s a PVP zone, so PVP will happen. Not only are the aggressors rewarded in loot/badges, they are also stopping enemy worlds from obtaining free blueprints.

At the moment the jumping puzzles are apart of WvW, therefore the same rules apply and anywhere on the map. You see the enemy, you fight. It was designed this way, with the traps and stuff.

Jumping puzzles are the ONLY way I’ll get my blueprints. I sit on 25g, and no I will not spend any of it on blueprints, sorry, I have other expenses, more permanent than wasting it on taking a tower that will be taken back in the night.

I would agree that jumping puzzles should be placed on a separate WvW map, with a separate queue.

If Anet didnt want pvp in the puzzles, they would have given everyone the invuln buff.
but since you are flagged it is a pvp area.
not some hand holding pve area.
If you dont like WvW is sorta like open world pvp. This isnt structured pvp.
either kill or be killed
you can always pve in peace on your home server.

i sit and wait for people to get to the near end of the puzzle and then knock them off into the starting area only to have to do it all over again…. because its fun.

i gather friends and we talk about how fun the game is, and we pvp people in the jumping puzzle who want to get their free siege, because its fun.

i come to the forums and read threads like this and fun turns into hilarious, when people get some odd sense of entitlement that says “i may be in a pvp area, but don’t touch me, i want to finish this puzzle”…. i remember the last time someone switched servers and told me to stop being ankitten so they could finish the puzzle already… i told them sure thing bud, no problem. so i switched too….

and then i waited around a different corner, and knocked them back to the starting line instead… honestly.. if you don’t want to get killed, go do a puzzle in PvE, or get some friends/skill and come see me in the WvW and WvWpuzzle

If it stops enemy players from obtaining more siege weapons that they’d use against my server. I will do it. It’s PvP. It’s competitive. Sorry.

I can grind mats in PvE for siege and get much more siege per day. You aren’t stopping me from getting siege, you are just making the game worse for everyone on the other server.

no. its only making worse for you. this is only your opinion, since you do not speak for an entire server. you may have others that feel the same, but you telling thers what to do or not do, based on your “feelings” on how things should be done, doesnt change anything.

red = dead once i log into wvwvw. i dont care if you picking flowers, your nose or jumping.

1) It doesn’t help your team. The imaginary uselessness of blocking off the opponent from supplies they can get anyway in PvE is not even remotely worth wasting time you could be spending defending a supply camp.

Agreed, there are (usually) better uses of ones time in WvWvW, however…

2) Free siege helps everyone in WvW. Would you rather have everyone get free siege, or have everyone have to grind to get siege? That’s what I thought. Let’s let WvW be about tactics, not grinding.

Denying the other servers access to free siege IS a strategy (not to be confused with a tactic). It is beneficial to my side to have access to free siege, while denying access to the same to our enemies.

3) What goes around comes around. You may feel special about yourself because your group of 5 ganked one guy trying to jump, but sometime in the future you will be ganked by a group bigger then you. That is, unless we all agree to not kill eachother.

True, but this isn’t unique to this topic. You could easily say this about any aspect of WvWvW.

4) You aren’t even rewarded for it. You MAY get a loot bag, but chasing somebody into the water to have a 10% chance to get a medal of honor means you are wasting time you could be spending doing more jumping puzzles for medals of honor.
