Why I like the Golem Event
So you basicly find it fun because you can pve level your char that’s it right?
I Imagine you are not a wvw regular, and by that I mean probably not even one rank right?
Don’t get me wrong….I overall think the Golem event is a massive mistake to roll out on EB and the BLs and I feel it would have been much better suited to testing this event on EotM, which is already a K-Train.
However, now that we are stuck with it for a few more days at least, I thought I’d try to find the good in the event….here it is:
It’s an excellent way to quickly level an alt toon by jumping in a golem and mindlessly running along as part of a K-train quickly flipping point after point….yes it’s pretty mindless, but I’d MUCH rather be doing that with guildies and friends from the same server than running around doing hearts and trying to get xp in PvE.
Plus, the sale price of a lot of the gear that isn’t max lvl is actually higher than the usual drops from running WvW on a lvl 80 character, so overall I’ve made more gold during golem week than in regular WvW and I’ve ranked up faster due to faster capping of objectives as the K-train rolls from point to point.
So…there’s my two cents in a river of negative feedback about the event in general.
Do I think it’s a good event?….honestly, no, not in regular WvW…it should have been EotM.
But….when life (or Anet) gives you lemons….
Good job on k-training better this week fool!
The game already has this functionality. It’s called Edge of the Mists. Granted it’s not the intended functionality…
Its actually quite strange that the event isnt EoTM only. EoTM was introduced in the living story as a PvE event, similar to how Silverwaste or Dry Top work. It was obviously never meant to be for WvW and Anet made zero attempt to change anything about it. That they continue with wierd events there would be logical and WvWers wouldnt even care.
Regarding what’s “good” about the event… No. There’s literally nothing good about it. Its all bad. Its not fun, its completely pointless, its without any purpose whatsoever (at least PvE events make some attempts at making sense in the world, or be celebrations of some kind) and it make the community toxic. The first hour it was impressive to see golem armies but we never needed that to begin with (in fact, we’ve seen it before). It has added nothing to WvW and when it goes away, all we will be left with is a ton of karma and bitterness against Anet.
Even just the 50% MF boost in WvW for a week as a celebration style event would have been better.
You know what is fun to me? Having the devs make every map a FFA PvP environment. I’d like to see how much you accomplish in PvE that week with all the ganking going on and slaughtering of innocent bystanders.
Look back at the Obsidian Sanctum and BL jump puzzle requirements for map complete and all the rage that followed. Forums ran with alligator tears the size of skittles because people put AC’s in there or other siege to PvP and/or gank. Over time that requirement was removed as was players not being able to place siege anymore.
Now it is a ghost town…

The only thing good thing about this event is that someone from ANet confirmed the existence of this gamemode

Wow…the salt…..I know I’m “feeding the troll” here, but here goes in a totally-not-necessary attempt to defend my “WvW regular” background
Yes, I am a WvW regular. I’ve only had the game since January this year, so a bit over 7 months, but in that time I’ve gone up to Bronze….Footman, I think it is….360+ rank.
I think that’s not bad for only 7 months or so of playtime.
I play WvW every day, it’s the only gamemode I find fun since finishing PvE, doing map completion etc. (both of which as examples were absolutely NOT fun towards the end)
And in case you didn’t get the gist of my original post….I meant to say that the Golem event is a huge negative, it’s ruined all competitive aspects of WvW and turned it into EotM. (which I can’t stand, by the way)
My “good thing” about golem week isn’t really very good at all, more of a “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade” kind of thing….I guess sarcasm really doesn’t translate well through text.
My original thought on making the thread was to have more exposure to the negative effects of golem week by making a post whose title was a positive, so it would perhaps get some attention or not be grouped into the sea of negative feedback in the golem megathread (and therefore buried) but upon anyone reading it, they would see that it’s actually just a thinly veiled criticism.
I guess some people didn’t understand that though, right? :p

And then went right back to ignoring it by allowing the exploiters to run amok for 3 days.

Be glad it wasn’t herpes.
“When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your kitten lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”

So your admitting Eotm is an exploit. Ban all eotm players
