Massive lag even on lowest settings. When guild wars released i could play on ultra and my fps would never drop below 15. Thats atleast playable. I come back from a 6 month break to find my gaming computer running 3fps at mass battles on LOWEST settings…

Specs: AMD Athlon x4 460 OC at 3.5GHz
AMD Radeon 6850 OC at 875ms
8gb ddr3 ram

I shouldn’t be lagging. I cleared all background applications and set GW2 priority to realtime. Can someone please offer some insight?

It’s not happening on your end. Anytime there is a very large scale battle anywhere on the map (50v50, etc) everyone on the map gets a sudden lag spike until the battle is over.

My current specs are:
Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge OC @ 4.4ghz
AMD Radeon 6870 @ 950
8gb ddr3 ram @ 1600 9/9/9/28

And I’m getting the same lag you’re experiencing, as is everyone in my guild and reportedly everyone on my server. Your computer is doing all it can, the lag is happening on Anet’s end, though the Dev’s here on the forums have assured us that they’re fixing, and considering how they fixed culling, I think most people are willing to wait and see how it turns out.

Thanks for the reply. Its good to know ol’betsy here can still push out the fps. One thing i remember though is that it wasn’t like this when the game first game out. I rarely had lag in WvW even in mass battles. What have they changed to cause this lag?

In addition to the removal of culling, the meta-game for WvW has changed quite a bit. You used to see QQ posts on the forums because one server or another was “zerging” all over the map with a group of 35 people all bunched up together; that group has now ballooned to 60-80 people! At one time, this was mainly a Tier 1 problem, but since this strategy is the easy-button way to take over a map, it has trickled down through all of the servers with enough population to handle it. And that seems to be the main reason why you’re seeing more lag, more often over the last few months (there was always lag, but it used to be a Friday-night problem, or an Eternal Battlegrounds problem, and many servers didn’t even notice it.) And the part that really gets to many people is that you don’t have to be in the big 80v80 battle yourself, anyone on the same map as that battle is going to be wearing out the “1” button on their keyboard until it ends.

Again, Anet is aware of the problem and says they’re working on it, and many of us are hopeful of a solution. I would actually be pleasantly impressed if they can really eliminate lag, as it seems to be something you run into somewhere in almost any popular MMO. It is particularly annoying in WvW, though.

Are you aware that when this game first released i could run it on ultra with 100+ people on screen and my fps remained playable? Even on LOWEST settings (including the ones you mentioned) i still get 3fps in mass battles. Anets problem not mine.

I was just trying to be helpful guy. No need to get all huffy. And it is your problem, because it doesn’t happen to everyone.

Actually it is anet’s problem because the entire map gets skill lag even if you are on the other side of the map from where that huge fight is happening. Do you really think that the people on tier 1 who have excellent PCs get skill lag because of there end? The problem is the server can’t process all of the input from each player so we get the lag.

Back in release I remember rushing into a fight what looked to be a 7 on 7ish, soon as I rushed in it became evident I was fighting a mass of invisible players, haha. good times!

Yep I took a 5 month break from the game as it was literally broken, they removed culling and now you can have 100 players on your screen, or more, so settings that used to be fine will now cause unplayable FPS, in the sense you can’t maintain fluidity of thought in combat because your screen is a slideshow – server lag still screws us all in the end and as people are zerging ever more server lag has really come to the fore.

I’ve noticed gw2 is really harsh on the CPU too with char amount set to highest, will easily max a 3570k @ 4.4GHz in a zerg fest :/
