Why are 3 of the 4 maps the same map in WvW?
They are called borderlands, something like a base for each server. In each borderland there is an Orb that gives a buff to whichever side owns it. Then there’s Eternal Battlegrounds.

It simplifies the overall strategy when dealing with the borderlands. And more importantly prevents one of the borderlands from becoming easily dominated due to terrain or fortuitous structure placement.
Here’s a idea, four different borderland (or maps, same thing). And have the servers rotate maps when a new game starts.
But the new game starts once a week, so whichever borderland is more advantageous (there will be one, trust me, just like how EB favors different colours for different things) will have an advantage the whole matchup.

Games today rely on balance too much. Give the team without the terrain advantage more buffs and better access to siege weapons.

That would be impossible to “balance”. 3 identical maps solve all these problems.

Imbalance is how you make a good game. One side has better terrain and the other side has better weapons. (ex. Socom 1-3)
Just imagine how much more qq you’ll see with these unbalanced maps. With the balance of 3 identical maps as it is, people will complain even more of unbalance (zerg, spawn camping, better map startign position etc etc). I haven’t seen anyone complain too much what side they are on in EB, but I can bet all hell will be let loose when all 4 maps are different from each other in a advantage/disadvantage way.

Three of the maps are identical with each team starting in a different location on each one, the home server having the advantage on their home borderland. The fourth is meant to be more even between all three teams with a desirable objective right in the middle.
Though due to the different terrains of the three sides, different colours end up having certain advantages, though for the most part things are mostly even on Eternal.
Having four different maps will not give any team a advantage. If all the teams start with the same number of terrain advantages at their starting point.
One Map would not have a clear advantage for any team for this to work.
Except they aren’t all the same. You can’t possibly believe playing the map as home server, is the same as playing the map from the position of SE server or SW server.
The three vantage points are remarkable different on the map. They play completely different depending on where your server starts the map.
And yet, each server can start at any of the positions so the advantage is a wash. With different maps this would not be possible.
Why are some of you against more content? Why do some of you want play on 3 different version of the same map?
The maps have different names and asura gates leading to each.
I only play on 1 map cos SYN is designated to EB for now And I’m having a blast still!

Come on. It’s not impossible to balance different maps. You could make them just very slightly different from each other. Waypoints a few meters away, different climate. More or less same layout.
Sure it won’t be 100% the same, but if done well only people who whine about everything or can’t deal with losing will blame it for their loss.
At least it would keep the game fresh longer to have different sceneries.

Honestly just moving spawn points a few meters here and there or small changes won’t make any difference. I would like each borderland to have a theme (snow, swamp, desert etc) but then we’ll probably have people saying that snow maps are hard on the eyes (they can be), swampy maps benefit green more (probably) etc etc. I’m all for more varied borderlands though. As long as they are similar and don’t give any side any upper hand.
