WvWvW Player Who Doesn’t Have Much of A Clue
Why have EU and US Servers if WvWvW is 24 hours?
WvWvW Player Who Doesn’t Have Much of A Clue
You already answered your own question – latency. “Worldwide” servers still have to be physically located somewhere, if they are in the US then EU players would complain, if they are in the EU then US players would complain.
Even if the latency difference is minimal I’m sure some people would use it as an excuse for losing.
Also, the game isn’t just about WvWvW. If you want to build a guild around PvE or sPvP, for example, that is going to be a lot easier to set up on a server with folks that have a similar schedule.
I think a small slip in Latency is something I’d take for a fighting chance at winning instead of the usual “There’s A Zerg coming…. but everyone’s gone to bed… time to call it a night too”

It depends on how big a “small slip” really is. As an Aussie I’m used to playing with 250+ms pings, but (in previous MMOs) whenever US players get similar latency the forums quickly fill up with how unplayable and broken the game is. So going by past experience I really doubt that many US players would be happy about an increase in latency.
because this game doesn’t have a in game language converter and idk about you guys but i can not speak German or French

all chill down here in aus.

Could could have labelled all the servers ‘international’ but with the understanding that certain servers were located in different continents.
I think this would have gone some way to dismissing the whole ‘night capping’ phenomena. As some people are just stuck with ‘but this is MY server’.
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”
I don’t see what the huge deal is with night capping. I play a lot at night, should I be upset by day capping? The battle ebbs and flows….or it would be sooo boring to log in and everything is exactly as I left it. Its a 24 hour game…this is how it is….Anet said this is how it will be.
As an Australian, as stated above I’m use to 200-250 latency, so I’m use to it, It’s fine. But an American who had 100-150+ latency would throw a hissy fit, well EU would be no different. The idea is good, but it’s out of the question.
Has anyone even checked the difference in latency between US and EU servers? From both continents? I’m under the impression that there isn’t actually much difference based on the overhead that these servers are dealing with.
You can check your latency (Win7) by opening the Resource Monitor > Networking which you can find under the performance tab in Task Manager.

Yes but whilst you’re not on at Peak Time the fight is waging on at a pretty even place and those who don’t have the cover for Night Capping are doing well at winning territory back.
My gameplay is mixed, I can be on at peak or play through to 4am if I wanted to but there’s no point running around a map at 4am alone in the hope that I can pummel a door down on my own against a possible night team from another server.
I know latency is the issue but I’d love a varied contact base. Gandara is a great server and at the moment I’ve only ever really gone in to Gandara Borderlands but due to the nature of the game you don’t want to leave as you’ll have invested coin in keeps, equipment in play and you want to make sure that everything is working to yours and your teams advantage.
I’m loving the WvWvW but even as a casual gamer mostly, the switch between night and day is as different as urrrrr night and day
I’m pretty sure Anet will figure something out but its just an option, kitten internets why won’t you be faster?!?!?!

I noticed absolutely no difference in latency between EU and US server. I haven’t done any ping tests but it runs just as smooth on US server.
Used to play on an EU server. If you wanted good W3 oponents you needed to be on a higher tier matchup server. That means extreme queues during EU Primetime. We tried two EU servers. After two moves we encountered the same problem. Queues and extreme inbalances of gameplay due to differences in populations around the clock.
Now we play on a NA server. We notice virtualy no differance in latency to the EU servers, along with the oceanics we are part of creating 24/7 coverage on the server. As EU primetime isnt US primetime, we dont have extreme queues as W3 slots arent taken up by randoms doing jumpingpuzzles as on the EU servers. In fact we have no queues up to 5 to 15 minute queues. There is no PvDoor as we have plenty of organised oposition during our primetime and the progress we make MATTERS because it isnt simply flipped the moment we go to sleep.
This is how it should have been from the begining. International servers for W3.
Both EU and US servers are located in Texas anyway. Only login server is region-based (EU is in Germany).
So latency is not a factor.
@igneous: Source of this? Because there’s as many people claiming the opposite, that the login servers are in Texas and the world servers in Frankfurt Germany.
Thought it was other way around. Login servers are all in US but game servers were local.
Both EU and US servers are in US as stated by igneous.8153. I don’t remember where (this forum or reddit) but someone traced the connections on both us and eu server. They are in us (no love for EU and AU).
I play from Denmark on a US server. No lag for me.
If anything, it should have been US and Asian servers. With South Korea or so for the Asian servers.
