There was a time when ANet seemed to care very much about “competition” and “level playing fields” inside of WvW. But becoming “good” in WvW is becoming less and less about skill or organization, but is instead becoming a grindfest.

Then, WvW Experience came into play, especially the buffs to Applied Fortitude and Applied Strength. Anyone who roams can instantly tell the difference between a “buffed” group and a non-buffed group in combat… +50 Power is comparable to 2 stacks of might… permanently.

I really question ANet’s judgement here. I do believe what WvW players want most is a somewhat fair playing field. I know that we’ve already accepted the fact that ANet doesn’t care about WvW Class Balance… but tipping the scales away from skill and towards grindfests really push me away from this game.

However, as Applied Fortitude and Applied Strength become STRONGER and harder to remove from enemies… as well as the huge amount of criticism towards the “down” state in general in Zerg vs Zerg combat… it really seems like ANet is signaling a coming grindfest. And that is precisely the direction I hope ANet doesn’t take this game.

I think it does have some impact because a character who gets downed and then revived somehow, in the current game, suffers a pretty meaty stat loss, and can help put them back down again.

If you want to play everyone has the same everything go into sPvP. Most players in WvW WANT to use the items, attributes and skills they have earned from play. Is it “power creep” sure but that is sort of the point.

However, I do believe there is a very valid objection to the high barrier of entry for ascended weapons/armor and that playing Alts in general hurts advancement because of the ridiculous number of hours it takes to get modest WvW levels.
