Q:
Why isn't this the best idea ever?
good idea but this isnt a pay to play game
Sharks With Lazers [PEW]
Good idea but things like a server being NA heavy going against a Ocean heavy, so lots of people with no one to fight.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!

right you can just keep on playin regular wvw.
besides 800 gems for 8 weeks is 100 gems per week which is like what 4 gold?? per week. You can farm 4 gold in 30 minutes. 30 minute per week of farming isn’t that hard.

It could work if the tickets were something like:
Ticket holder = Get to choose your world two weeks before league starts
Non-ticket holder = Have to wait until the week before league starts to choose a world and some worlds may not be available due to high population
You could still collude and stack a world with proper planning and deep pockets, but the usual bandwagoners would pretty much be forced to spread out.

I dont think the oceanics would pay gems just to stack on a server and night cap.
They already do that for free.
Nice out of the box thinking, but tbh I don’t think many would sign up. My impression is very few ppl want the league.

They would if WvW was competitive.
Everyone that doesn’t want leagues says so purely due to population imbalance and blowouts.

Oh and there are already paid PvP tournaments so your argument is invalid.
Forget the paid part. Just suspend server WvW for a period of time. Instead allow everyone to sign up for one of 24 league teams. a floating cap would force all servers to be pretty close to even people wise.
This allows for competitive matches and guilds can all still sign up for the same team.
Works for everyone.

then they can’t sell the entry tickets. any idea has to = profit or it will never happen.

also this change would be forced upon whereas mine would be voluntary.
i’m trying to suggest a win/win/win (anet, pugs, hardcores)
If google I am sure you could find some games that are pay to play. No game mode should cost gems.

There is sPvP free tourneys and sPvP paid tourneys.
suggesting it for WvW is not changing the ideals of the game. they already do it.
This wouldn’t fix population issues. Sure there would be no issues for the people who spend gems to get put into the league assuming the leagues fill up. However, this could potentially leave a massive population gap in the non-paid matchups. Say on NA all of t1-4 got in and no one from t5-down did except for SoR which sent no one into leagues. Now this is an extreme example but think of the leftover population disparity.
All the people who didn’t want to pay to get in would complain and still be upset

its an extreme example. in reality it would balance things better.
less servers and a lot of T1 would join the league reducing the huge gap between T1 and everyone else.

You forget this is an online game of which vast majority are casual players looking for the least amount of resistance with phat lewts as a reward.

there are 2 kinds of players in WvW casual and competitive.
i am trying to offer a solution that leaves the casual game alone and as-is while creating a competitive alternative for WvW players (those who’d be willing to spend gems on it).
just like there are casual sPvP players and those who enter paid tournaments.
Why is this so hard to understand?

Again there better be phat lewts or cash prizes even for the serious competitive gamers to make their gem purchases worth it. To state they are in a paid league simply for “competitive matches”? It’s gonna take far more than competitive matches if serious gamers are paying cash/gems/gold out their pockets to attend.

They actually do. 2 of the biggest oceanic/SEA guild just joined JQ. Oceanic/Sea are nearly to non existent on lower tiers. It always be the same guild running while on t1 you’ll see hundreds of them. It is sad to be a SEA player like me as I’ll only get blow up fight on every server, some good(will always win) against t3/2 and getting steamrolled against t1. Imagine this when league start, I’ll be only getting one week(sure win) of good fight while the rest are just steamrolled or PvD.
People keep on saying TC is stacked, we’re not. We just have tons of fair-weathers. And PvE. Them PvErs…..

My point though is that there will be that one core group on the higher tier server (or more than one) who deems it a stupid idea and stays, keeping a massive population on that server compared to the other ones.
because it would create population imbalance is not a valid argument. there already is horrible imbalance. let those people have their imbalanced game. let’s have a separate match for people who want to win with the same #s as their opponents??
there would still be a total of 1 less total server than there is today. the majority of the people joining leagues would be from upper tiers. this means the populations would actually be closer together than they are now.
or is it balanced already and competitive matches are easy to find?
