Honestly I don’t think Wv3 map completion should be part of the world completion just because it’s obnoxious, but I like the PvP jumping puzzles primarily because they’re PvP. They have traps! That’s interesting! And the PvP lends a sense of tension that you otherwise don’t get.

I don’t really think we need more, but what we have is a fun experiment, and it’s neat to see what people do with them.

Can you explain your psychological reasoning for doing WvW jumping puzzles at the expense of your server’s interests?

PvE players are FORCED by ANet to be in W3 in order to complete the Jumping Puzzles and their World Completion.

Maybe you should be championing the removal of the Jumping Puzzles and the World Completion points from W3 so the “dead weight” PvE players stay out of W3.

Except we know that blueprints and dead weight is a fake excuse, because the random jump puzzle blueprints will not determine the course of an entire match and camping a jumping puzzle that generates no points is more of a dead weight than trying to do one.

If you are one of these naked pacifists a better idea would be to keep your clothes on, run away, use stealth/protect skills and if you still get downed use the hidden escape skill activated with the ALT+F4 button combination. I bet most people would eventually get sick of ganking if it just wasted their time and got them a big fat zero as a reward.

Are you kidding? Alt-f4-ing someone is just going to make them want to kill you even more. I don’t get a reward for killing you???… your butthurt is my reward and the knowledge that I can make you squirm like a little pathetic baby. If I was able to consistently find you, then that is worth at least 200 badges to me to be able to farm your emotions.

This coming from someone who generally doesn’t wait around to camp enemies in jumping puzzles (although I love the JP PvP).

And the PvP lends a sense of tension that you otherwise don’t get.

And that is why the Jumping Puzzles I truely did enjoy are the WvW Jumping puzzles, and the Mad King’s Cloaktower. All the other JP’s are things you do once and that’s it… but when you add some tension into the equations, I could do it all day.

That’s not a noobish question. That guy was just whining for the sake of whining.

Basically he is complaining that he has to go into a PvP area to get PvP area related achievements. Similar to the people who complain about having to do PvP in order to get PvP rewards.

Pay no attention to these whiners. With the exception of Ascended gear (for now) everyone can pick out of many different ways to acquire gear, wealth and aesthetics. These whiners just want credit for completing the entire game without actually having to complete the entire game.

Really? Who deemed PvE to be the supreme content?
Last time I checked the vast majority of the world completion points where in PvE content areas. You are forced to play 4 maps in WvW, which you can easily complete at night or friday before reset (provided it means so much to you).
Now, all of us who enjoy WvW and don’t think PvE is particularly fun are literrally forced to level in PvE, get our equipment in PvE and complete like 85% of world completion in PvE. Yet, we suck it up and do it.

Take your complaints to some other part of the forum where someone cares.

Whoa! You guys are taking what I said out of context. I’m not complaining. I’m stating an observation with a solution.

The person I quoted called the PvE players dead weight.

I was pointing that these “dead weight” PvE players are there because they have to be to finish two achievements, World Completion and Jumping Puzzles.

If he wants these PvE players out of W3 he should instead of ganking them for easy badges then telling them it is their own fault for being there be championing a movement to have W3 content removed from those Achievement lists.

I’ll play W3 after I finish my World Completion. I can care less about the jumping puzzles IMHO.

You all shouldn’t be bashing the pure PvE players and calling them whiners when they are simply trying to finish something that ANet spread into a PvP zone.

If you go based on how Guild Wars (1&2) has always been geared towards Map Completion = PvE then you would understand the complaint.

The only PvP areas in GW1 that counted towards Map Completion was Jade Quarry and Fort Aspenwood. And they were small areas scraped in about 2-3 minutes.

When players went armorless in those areas everyone left them alone to do their mapping. Since those were “instances” all we asked in return was that once you got the map open get back to your starting side and armor up for the rest of the instance.

You’d be amazed what a little courtesy does.

Here though they have to put up with PvP players that have the WoW mindset and refuse to show a little courtesy to someone that is trying to get their completion done so that a dedicated W3 player can get in once they leave the map.

They don’t want to be there anymore than you want them there.

And if they were “PvP related achievements” there would be a separate list for PvP Map Completion. Stop bundling the W3 monthly kill achievement with the Map Completion Achievement.

As for me, I’ll likely finish my completion, ignore the jumping puzzles, and going based on the attitudes I’ve been seeing in W3 might not ever go back.

I seriously thought I might like W3 when I tried it and decided to finish PvE to 80 for gear and skills so that I could be more effective in W3. The attitude is putting me in the camp to help out the PvE players.

Brings in another MMO as an example of how GW2 “should” work … ridicules others for doing the same. Sounds like you’re stuck in a “GW1 mindset”.

The fact is that GW2 doesn’t have exploration and achievement hunting geared 100 % towards PvE. If you want those things you’re expected to deal with PvP situations to get them. That doesn’t mean you have to fight, but you at least have to avoid fighting.

Hmmm, I have no problem with having to run around WvW to get 100% map completion. Why? Because WvW is also a pve zone, pvpve if you will. Suck it up, just because it may take awhile to do doesn’t mean it’s not worthwhile.

It’s funny, I actually zone into WvW to see what I can get for map completion. If we hold certain points, relog and come in with the characters that need it.

I do understand the problem if you are on a server that never takes anything though.

The JP is getting out of hand. I really think it should be removed, or players should be able to complete it with only players from their server. It’s causing a lot of griefing, and not only that, but players are camping the puzzle for hours instead of helping in WvW. It’s a loss of resources and bodies.

Also, you are dead weight by just staying in the puzzle instead of actually helping in WvW.

Why would you NOT kill them? I join wvw to kill people, no other reason. It baffled me when I was fighting 2 people in one of the jumping buzzles and the other people on my side stood around saying “leave them alone”. I killed them anyway (they weren’t naked) because that’s what wvw is about; killing the enemy.

Yes WvW is about killing the enemy. That’s why jumping puzzles and vista’s and poi’s should not be in there as a requirement for world completion, because Anet forces people who have no interest in WvW at all to go into that area to get their achievement.

I like Anet but some of their decisions just baffle me. This just causes so much unnecessary grief.

I simply suggested a more logical way of indicating that you weren’t interested in fighting than giving enemies free kills in your underwear. Personally I just fight back if someone attacks me.

Of course my suggestion might have incorrectly assumed that most people are rational and do PvP for rewards and entertainment and not as some form of sadistic outlet. Better to keep it in game than in the real world I guess!

Those sieges are the reason why Gunnars Hold will frequently have mesmers on standby to assist with puzzles.

As one of those mesmers I make it a point not to attack enemies in the puzzle unless they have attacked others before, not out of any altruistic motive but because fighting in the puzzles makes getting others up there more difficult.

No one gets accused of slacking when they do those puzzles, siege is a vital part of WvW.

There should be more jumping puzzles it’s fun place for smaller scale pvp.

Pity that pvp balance between classes and builds is not really good in wvw, you can get way too crazy gear and buffs compared to spvp. I wish devs would look into balancing pve gear and skills too for wvw.

BL jumping puzzles I don’t care so much. I’m happy to live and let live.

EB JP though, its all on. Plus that one is actually more fun to fight in. You’ve got stealth options, seige options, griefing options, its great.

In all honesty, I have no idea where the jumping puzzles are in W3. I guess that is a good thing since I don’t need to run into a zerg of opposition that only wants easy kills.

In other news though, last time I looked today it looked like our server was trying to throw the W3 matches just to get us rotated.

Makes me wonder how long it will be before A-Net starts noticing the “fixed matches” that got Hero Battles (I think, but I know it caused problems for tournaments) removed from GW1 and was causing problems with the Alliance Battles.

On an unfriendly map the BL JP makes a great fallback point. Fortify it a bit and defend it, then poke out and repeatedly take nearby towers/supply, if you get engaged directly by a zerg as long as 1/2 people can fall back into the puzzle they can always come back and rez the group. Also provides a steady stream of easy kills while you’re between targets.

Eternal Battleground jumping puzzle have three fountains to give stealth for some minutes. If players don’t want to be killed nor to kill, i recommend using them. Other than that, it’s still a battlefield. Going into there naked it’s just dumbness.

Going into your enemies’ BL JP, and right on the other side of the waterfall you HAVE to jump through (and landing takes at least half your hp), throwing down ballistas and camping that spot. I don’t think you can see enemies through the waterfall either, not 100%.

You’re stuck while your character gets back up for at least 2 seconds with half health or less already, 2-3 ballistas waiting for you? No chance. And how would you clear those ballistas as long as they’re manned?

Catapults on the cliff before the jump might manage an angle depending on ballista placement. Proper ballista placement, yeah good luck breaking it.

As for why kill people in JP. Why not. It’s a PvP area, so most people there like PvP and therefore when you can kill someone you do. Don’t moan about map exploration or puzzle achievements when you compare to us who love wvw but loathe much of pve having to do many more menial tasks for that map exploration.

Depends on where they are hiding behind the waterfall. The waterfall itself doesn’t block the enemies…you can see them easy enough if you press Ctrl to highlight them (best viewing is on the pathway up, not from the jumping spot itself). But if they’re far enough back and/or hiding behind the wall, then yes…you’re not going to see them.

You do realize the JP badge accrual scales with level and a level 2 is only going to get 2-3 badges out of it, right?

Admittedly the lowest toon I’ve done it on is 13, but my lvl 13 has got more badges than my lvl 80s many times. Unless it scales very quickly, I don’t think that’s right at all.

I don’t think it’s possible to get 2 badges either. Pretty sure it’s 3 – 6, since you always get 3 sets of badges that have 1 – 2 each.

You’re very likely correct about 3 badges being the absolute minimum. I couldn’t remember the exact minimum off the top of my head, so the 2-3 was a guess (obviously based on foggy memory). But I was farming this puzzle all week last week when our server had complete control of EB and can say for certain that the badge drops scale. My fresh-out-of-the-tutorial characters were scoring +/-3 badges each. They’re now around level 7 and they’re seeing 3-4 now. My low-teens characters were seeing around 5-6 badges. My high-40s character usually saw around 8-10. And my level 80 typically gets +/-16.

We might be talking about different JP’s then. I was thinking of Borderlands, you’re thinking of EB. It’s quite possible EB JP scales, but I don’t think Borderlands JP does.

Ah, yes…you’re right, Borderlands JP most certainly doesn’t scale. But the big puzzle in EB most certainly does.

I don’t, but one ‘specific’ guild in Devona’s Rest has been doing it repeatedly with rifle warriors. I counter-troll them every time and they eventually stop coming when they realize they can’t win 2v1. They’re now KOS for me
