Why so many changes to everything BUT wvw?
Wait what, so new minor WvW content and changes takes 3-6 months to make and balance while there is PvE patch every 2 weeks with new maps, recepies, features, items, npcs and 100 other things. Im not really into dev hating but just how stupid do you think we are? Atleast be honest and say you dont create content for WvW because you dont get revenues from this.
Please stop with this “every 2 weeks” nonsense. ANet has already said.. they have FOUR TEAMS working on the LS updates, each team taking 1-2 months for all of their content. IE the team that just put out the last update has been working on it since early June. It does not take 2 weeks to develop, test and polish any of the PvE updates. It’s a 4 team, rotation based update schedule.
My fun laughs at your server pride.
New maps take a long time to be built. And even once they are built it takes a long time to get them tested until they are ready to be released. Rest assured, as soon as we can release new maps, we will. And, while it isn’t an entirely new map, you can look forward to some changes to the borderlands soon. Let’s just say you should get your krait killing in now.
we want more than just new maps, if you havent noticed how often living story is applied to PvE, we want that kind of content update to be applied to WvW. Please make it happen and stop treating WvW players like garbage.

Yes, so they have like 30 ppl working on PvE content and maybe 2-3 parttime on WvW. This is pretty much the problem.

Because you work for ArenaNet and know the size of their teams… It’s all speculation.
WvW is a massive undertaking to keep balanced. EVERY proposed solution, that posters here just think “oh this is easy to put in”, aren’t very balanced and would screw up WvW worse than it is. Most people don’t think about the thousands of people that play WvW on a daily basis, they only think of how their problem can be fixed on a short-term basis.
WvW is by far the hardest thing to update. New map? Better be perfectly balanced for each server. New orb mechanic? Better be perfectly balanced for T8 and T1 alike, EU and NA.
If ANet just threw out WvW updates without properly balancing them.. No one would play anymore.

We’re coming up on the 1 year anniversary of release, and the only significant change to wvw has been the new ranks and abilities, which were obviously thought out all at once and are now being released every month or so to try and make us happy. In that time, how many pve updates have their been? Living stories? New spvp maps? Balances to spvp abilities (ret, confusion)that spilled over to wvw?
It IS speculation, but it’s not hard to see that wvw is the red-headed stepchild of the company (and the devs). PvE has more people, I see that and understand it. But spvp has to have less than 1/10th of the population, but because someone at corporate thinks they can make money off e-sport it is their priority. Sadly, as an increasing number of wvw’ers leave out of boredom, the development teams will lose people steadily until it’s too late to do anything about it… and they still won’t make money on spvp as an esport.
People need to understand that developing stuff for WvW is most likely takes much more time and work than PvE stuff.
You’re an incorrigible shill …
I lol’d, and concur.
The problem with this relationship (WvWplayers and ANET), is that ANET wants us to take everything on good faith. (IE: We are working on it, it is coming soon). The problem is that while some want details, the rest of us are thinking: “Working on what?” Another mastery?
If you really are outmanned as people think (in WvW developer manpower), I think the outrage is because people think that the little time that gets devoted should go to more fruitful pursuits. Now I know that lots of folks will say that there would be too many opinions on what people would agree to be “fruitful”. But there are many things that are kitten near unanimous: Commander tags, grouping issues, etc.
I am sorry, but we all have a finite amount of time that we will likely play this game, and people do not want to spend 3-4 months of that time waiting on something like:
“we are deleting the krait & quaggans and replacing it with the new orb mechanic”
While that is exciting and new, it also will likely be bug-ridden and require patching once players find a way to exploit it. My point is why not try to work on the issues you already have, rather than spend precious manhours coming up with ideas that will likely only cause more issues and/or need more attention down the road.
TL/DR: We don’t necessarily want a new car, most would settle for you first just fixing the stuff that is broken on our current one.

I agree. I feel like only three major things were added for almost a whole year this game has come out and only one was a actually a good one (culling). The ranks and ability feel like a joke b/c most of the skills are useless. I still see bugs from the start that are still in WvW to this date which is stupid.
I remember seeing a post of a guy showing a dev doing that glitch through the door of a tower. The dev posted saying he just found out about but the community knew for sometimes and were reporting it and telling them on the forums so they are now just investigating it.
Found it:

Just feels like it either disorganizing or the WvW team is very out manned.

Doing away with the very limited underwater combat there already is in WvW? That, good sir, gets a big thumbs down from me.
I want more underwater combat in the game as a whole. Not less.

But it IS much harder to make and balance content that has to do with PvP actions, since if something is imbalanced or exploitable it would hurt the game and player way more than if something like that turns up in PvE.
and yet MOBAs release new content (playable heroes, items) like all the time and just take imbalances in stride without hurting the game for more than a patch cycle or 2
so they release something OP? so what? next patch cycle can take care of it. being afraid to make content is just silly.
Exactly this. It’s isn’t as if we players aren’t already ANet’s primary QA organization. I’d gladly accept some glitches and temporary imbalances if a.) ANet offset that with interesting updates and new content on a regular basis and b.) addressed the imbalances with reasonably timely patches. We’d actually get two forms of excitement from it … the new content and the uncertainty of whatever they broke in the process.
Upon reflection, though, I have to admit that it’s a sign of a stagnant game (I’m speaking about WvW) when I’m actually willing to treat broken abilities as new content.

Learn to comprehend. He never said that LS content only took two weeks to develop … he said it only takes two weeks (yes, on a rotating development platform) to release new LS content. The fact that LS has four full time teams doing this, while WvW has only one partial team, is EXACTLY the issue he and others are complaining about.

Can we all take a moment to breathe a sigh of relief that an actual change to the map is in the works…I mean an actual change in topography!
Yeah, a bonus mechanic for more powerful servers is not necessarily a good thing; but if the orbquest if fun and innovative, I can forgive it.
Plus do not miss the fact that if they are changing the terrain in the BL’s, that new maps are probably not much further behind. The lake is already ~1/5 of the map, and the conceptual work on a new map is not hard. The grueling parts is balancing what they want to do with what they can do; and trying to keep some semblance of balance.
After the lake, I hope we see changes to the Skritt and Centaur areas as well. As someone suggested last week, they should at least make them mercenaries.

All of the dev’s promises is starting to remind me of lotro’s PvMP. There the devs kept saying “Ah yes _ is in development”, “We’re making you a new map!”, etc…year and year. Then instead of doing all of that they made the game f2p and allowed people to buy the skills you’d have to get by ranking up your character. Just sayin’. Ive played MMO’s long enough to see a dev’s forum promises with a very small grain of hope

the pace is what the designer sets it to be. do they ever set space combat to our current tech levels? that would feel extraordinarily similar to water combat, because we have practically nothing compared to the imaginations of space game designers or movie writers. a game like that would be boring and slow, like water combat in gw2. we play these games to escape our reality, not to extend it.
space is a fully immersive 3d environment, instead of the 2.5d of gw2 and every other fantasy mmo. and gw2 and similar games approach water combat with the same 2.5d gameplay instead of truly giving us 6 cardinal movement directions. therein lies the problem.
…and no, gameplay in gw2 is not 3d. the graphics are. movement is 2d + elevations, not 3d. the target audience is very bad at 3d thinking because all theyve ever had to do is 2d. spatial reasoning is not the forte of casual gamers and teenagers.
head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions
I’d forget about it if I were you. While this remains an assumption on my part, it is still my firm belief that when A.Net first designed this game, they looked at WvW as a game mode that could, by and large, take care of itself and would need little to no maintenance. At the time, it seems the same attitude prevailed towards the PvE environment, which – as PvE gamers familiar with that period will tell you – was badly in need of endgame content. The clear focus, and somewhat singleminded goal, of A.Net is, and has always been, the development of the sPvP/tPvP format as an e-sport.
Since then we’ve seen the development of the living world concept for PvE and tons upon tons of new content introduced for that particular game mode. The e-sports aspect of sPvP/tPvP is slowly but steadily on track, now featuring tournaments with major cash prises, more maps, a solo queue with separate rankings, and so on. And WvW has gotten … well, what exactly? Apart from ranks that obviously lack proper playtesting and a WxP system that has skewed the balance even more towards zerging, we haven’t really seen much of anything. We’ve “gained” the removal of orbs, the ability to actually purchase gear with more than one stat combination for the currency we earn, and we waited for months on end for (sub-par) access to ascended trinkets.
But that’s not the real concern here. What I think is more troubling is that while PvE has its living world concept, and sPvP/tPvP is headed for e-sports, it seems that no such overall roadmap exists for WvW. After a full year, A.Net still seems to have no idea where they are headed with the format. WvW is still considered a format that can simply subsist with no improvements to speak of. Which is precisely why responses like this:
New maps take a long time to be built. And even once they are built it takes a long time to get them tested until they are ready to be released. Rest assured, as soon as we can release new maps, we will. And, while it isn’t an entirely new map, you can look forward to some changes to the borderlands soon. Let’s just say you should get your krait killing in now.
accomplish little more than making it seem like we’re talking to someone who’s not really listening. Most WvW players have a pretty good idea what the format needs at this point. We need better tools to run non-zerg sized groups, more incentives to defend (and rewards for upgrading) structures, restrictions on waypointing, a handicap system of some sort to combat imbalances in server population, skins and other rewards that are unique to WvW – and most of all, we need new maps. These problems have been accounted for many times already in various threads and should come as no surprise to anyone with even the slightest amount of experience in WvW.
And you come at us with … replacing the krait?
Devon needs to take this post with him to the next WvW meeting and really take it to heart. Small team? Thats a hidden truth. Small team means that Anet doesnt place much importance on WvW. Small team means WvW is low priority. Small team means that Anet thinks that WvW isnt going to bring in $$$ as much as other aspects of the game. If Anet felt WvW was important as other game elements, it wouldnt have limited resources like such a small team working on it.
GW2 is a HUGE AAA title. There is no reason that a major part of the game, such as WvW, should have such limited resources or such a small team working on it. Nor should they have so much trouble giving what most people are asking for. People arent asking for uber weapons. People are asking for purpose. Make the weekly matches matter, make the commander pin matter, make a guild claiming something matter, make defending matter, etc etc. An experienced game developement company like Anet shouldnt have so much trouble giving players these types of things, yet almost every dev post makes it seem like this epic struggle to do so.
Here is a starter tip: WvW gemshop specific items and services. Things that will only show up or can only be used while doing WvW. (the finishers are a good example, now just keep adding stuff like that) That will help make WvW more profitable to start, which should give you incentive to increase the number of reasources working on WvW.

No! People saying “time” it is not an excuse! It is nearly 1 year since gw2 has been out and wvw has been out for more than a year now in beta. It is still the same 3 maps copy pasted and orbs were taken out and no clue of what’s happening to them. Altar of power is still in map for some reason. All they gave us were ranks. They had more than enough time to create new maps. They just chose not to. I only play this game for wvw and arenanet are just giving a big middle finger to me.
This thread reminds me of the time when wvw was getting the culling fixes and spvp was still waiting on various features like observer, leader boards, solo queue, etc. spvp players were whining about being unloved back then too. And pve farmers whining that wvw/pvp gets all the attention whilst their farming spots are nerfed lol.
I think the pace of the living story updates fool everyone into thinking anet can make patches quickly, whereas in reality living story is just “content” being churned out by artists and script coders. Whereas “system” changes like new mechanics and features requires more efforts from possibly senior coders, and takes much longer.
So the moral of the story is that anet needs to withhold all patches until they have completed something for each player group so noone feels unloved i guess. :p
Devon, even little things like changing texture sets for these maps would go a LONG way…..just sayin.
Also….mini-Stonemist in the lake! add 3 connecting bridges (south, west, east) BAM that would be nice
Fun fact. All the pve content (the living stories) that are currently out have never experienced the full 8 weeks of development time. Meaning the Queens Jullibee area was done in under 8 weeks. The map for that is quite big. Not to mention the zepher sky city thing. That was done in under 8 weeks as well. Look at it. All those leaps, teleports, and dashes. Yet it was for the most part, a very solid content update with very little bugs.
They say they are working on wvwvw. They have been working on it since August. Or at least they should have. I mean every aspect of the game must be worked on right? So either they are neglecting wvwvw and lying; or they are completely understaffed/lazy. It’s been over 11 months since GW2 came out. What has been done for wvwvw?
They removed culling, something they placed in the game in the first place
They added character bound wvwvw masteries
They removed the orbs, but not the alters
They finally moved the JP out of EB, but the entrance is still in EB, not to mention the regular BL’s still have their own JP’s
What has been done for pve?
Southsun cove map, the size of which is probably just as large as a bl
3 Spvp maps
Temporary Halloween events
Southsun survival
Queens Jullabee
Sanctum sprint
Zypher map (temporary as well)
countless minor fixes to dungeons
consistent fixes to event chains
the molten factory
the aetherblade retreat
3 new jumping puzzles (Aetherblade one, Wintersday, and the Clock tower)
plus many more that I cannot think of off the top of my head. Wvwvw players haven’t gotten even a tenth of Anets attention.
Sure there was class balancing and what not, but it was for the spvp croud. Those updates on skills and traits was for spvp, it just happened to bleed into wvwvw as well, but with spvp in mind, not wvwvw.

Should have been there ~6 months ago. Basicly just confirming again that there will be “some changes” to the middle area of the borderlands.
Still we dont know anything specific.Next patch: Trap mastery!
I’d love Trap Mastery, no joking about that!
Though I do wish we had more than just 2 options, and 50% of them were not pure unadulterated Anti-Thief…
(edited by Grimwolf.7163)
I’m up for removing all that water and replacing it with a few more vertical additions if you know what I mean. The borderland is already plagued with heart seeker thieves who can abuse all these flat open areas and we could use a few safe places to get objectives done.

Do you actually have any kind of proof about this or are you only assuming stuff?
It is highly likely that the maps have been worked on for MONTHS before release.
It is also quite unfair to compare something that is not competitive and therefore don’t need exact balance to something that is based around PvP.

I took a class in continuous improvement, I remember the guy teaching saying companies need people that are “willing to turn over rocks and look at the all creepy-crawly things underneath”. Companies need less people willing to ignore the rock all the while knowing likely what is below it.
The same could be said in this scenario, the people doing the griping may seem “entitled whiners”, but I agree that most of them are doing it because they care. Like someone said yesterday, when people stop complaining you have either fixed the problems or more than likely everyone has left for good.

BAMM!
Watch the video. I think he mentions it in the one minute mark. “All of these teams usually have 4-5 weeks, maybe 6 weeks on a good release to build the content you would experience on the living world release”
A dev also made a post a while back stating something along the lines of “if you think this is good, wait until the teams gets a full 8 weeks.” I just couldn’t find it though and I’m not going to go through 10-15 pages to look for it.
Also keep in mind this was posted on July 2nd.
Bazzar of the Four Winds went live July 9th
Queens Jullibee came out a month later, or about 4 weeks. It is safe to assume the teams had some time prior to the announcement of July 2nd, but not that much more. So all of this content was created in under 8 weeks, with the Queens Jullibee nearing the 8 week mark.

You know whats funny is i find us who complain and harass them to a point are the true fans of this game. I want this game to become better but i feel like we aren’t pushing them hard enough to do it. I mean we still don’t have housing or guild halls in this game.
Exactly this. For several years I managed a large segment of a business serving the tech industry, and the customers who scared me the most were the ones who were unhappy and just left without saying anything. They never give you the chance to learn what you’re doing wrong and address problems so that you can keep them. The vocal complainers are the bread and butter of your future success if you don’t ignore them. Several fan boys here (like lordkrall, who I actually think must be on ANet’s payroll) don’t seem to understand any of that at all.

Hopefully Anet realises why they lost a huge part of the sPvP community in the past… and don’t do the same thing for WvW if they haven’t already..
IMO..
- No new WvW content until they give us a flexible Commander and Squad system useable for all players. Private and public abilities and allow us to form forces the way we enjoy.
- No new WvW content until we actually have functioning UI right click options in WvW. Basic things like removing offline group members and inviting people through the UI.
let’s actually fix the things that haven’t worked for about a year before adding “New” stuff.

(p.s. Even just adding different colored/guild only commander tags, the ability to kick offline party members and to invite people already in WvW, those would make a big difference.)

But it IS much harder to make and balance content that has to do with PvP actions, since if something is imbalanced or exploitable it would hurt the game and player way more than if something like that turns up in PvE.
Perfect balance & no exploits are an impossible pipe dream. The fact that the live WvW maps have had exploits is an undeniable fact.

Quite true, which is yet another reason why they should not rush out new maps.

Small team means that Anet thinks that WvW isnt going to bring in $$$ as much as other aspects of the game.
Pretty much this. But I think they are wrong with this assumption. Tons of players play it at least once (friday) a week and that one day in a week would be reason enough for players to buy something WvW related from the gemstore, imo.
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
I’d like some way of getting achievement points whilst doing my wvw activities- apart from completing the daily where else do we get rewarded with achievement points?
Oh wait, I forgot, in another 6,000 dolyak kills I’ll get 5….

I’m sure Anet is aware that players are not satisfied with the grouping systems. I’m just not sure if they are aware of the magnitude of the frustration we feel daily. Coordinating in GW2 and forming forces they way we ENJOY is very difficult. A flexible in game grouping system is needed that can be used by all different guilds an player styles. Can’t group effectively the way we enjoy because the system is not flexible and can’t group effectively using the current system as the UI options don’t work.
Trying to maintain a group in WvW is like using an old DOS system. Using /slash commands for everything because the UI is disabled.

As they’ve said before, this isn’t the WvW team’s job. It’s another team’s area. The real question is what in the hell has THAT team been doing this whole year? They’ve been making a LFG tool. (I assume that’d be within their area). We can’t hate the WvW for another team’s lack of productivity. We also don’t know how large such a team is. It could be 2 guys for all we know. We need those things but since they come from different departments it’ silly to tell one team to not do anything while another catches up on their backlog.

What possible items could they add that were WvW related though? The only thing I can think of are superior style BPs, but if you are a casual WvWder (as in those ppl that just play on fridays) I doubt they would buy this…

Quick ideas:
1) Battle standards
2) Instruments of war (battle drums?)
3) Custom siege skins
4) Custom tower/keep skins
5) Custom tower/keep guards
etc etc

K, now I just hate you. Every time I lay down my siege, I’m going to think “why doesn’t this look cooler”, or when I’m defending something, I’ll think of how much cooler it would be to defend this place if it were a gingerbread house…

The day this is getting fixed I’ll probably be playing Camelot Unchained already.
Also wouldve been the sickest fixes ever since all wvw changes.

Or how about for claimed camps/towers/keeps, etc, the guards show the guild tag of the guild that claimed it? Bonus points for defending an objective that your guild has claimed?
How about fixing the claiming bug? That’s only been around since release day.
As with everything, I’d love to give dates, but until everything is 100% ready to go, I can’t. Suffice to say they will be in as soon as humanly possible.
Did someone say Dates?
No no no. Don’t thank me.
I just sleep easier at night knowing that the worlds safe again.
And thats all the reward I need.

If anyone has a problem please understand that the game is barely 1 year old and if it is anything like other games, takes time for new releases to be implemented.
This is what will be released.
In addition to fighting for PPT , players will now have a chance to earn a real worthy pve and wvw bonus by conquering atleast (?9) keeps to proceed to a an island called (agramon?) to bring down a (?super keep) and to claim the orb for themselves.
This chnage alone will create what DAOC knows has RELIC RAID.
If you dont know, RELIC RAIDS were extremely memorable. Having such raids on such a grand scale, even though, back then the FPS was around 8~20 was fun.
The WvW team has ex-mythic employees now, and Anet has countless of ex-blizzard staff. Expect your jaw to drop with awe with incoming changes to wvw.
i’d take Darkness Falls a hundred times over before i’d take DAOC relic raids. There is already plenty of mega-zerg action in GW2.
Some great ideas here but don´t expect too much. GW2 is a PvE game and that´s the only game mode Arenanet delivered their promises. Look at SPvP or look at WvW what has been said and what has been done, cough E-Sports cough, i can´t stop laughing. Also look what happens if you are starting to criticize too much:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Something-is-WRONG
then Arenanet does what they can do the best and close Threads. There is so much work to do, equalizing the zerg, commander functionality, character progress, performance, evolution of wvw maps etc. etc. But all Arenanet does is promising and stopping people to talk about it. Let´s face it WvW is maybe rank twenty on the list they want to touch in this game.
