Why the choice between loyalty and rewards?
This is true, you get more karma, badges and WxP in EOTM and I agree it does not make sense, it should be the other way around.
I like EOTM a lot, but it really should not be more rewarding then regular wvw maps.

They actually wanted to separate the gankers / “PvPers”.
The words “loot” and “noobs” makes them flood EOTM.
Trolling aside, I agree it should be the other way around.
perhaps they’re trying to manage WvW the same way they manage PvE.
in PvE, they have the Living Story arcs to keep PvE from getting stale. when the game was new people ran Arah all the time. now it’s rare to see except maybe on the larger servers; people are doing the new content instead.
maybe that’s what EotM is — a way to keep WvW fresh and interesting. first we had ‘plain’ WvW which was fun for a while, but people started getting tired of it and asking “what’s the point?” then they introduced league play so suddenly WvW mattered again, at least for some of the servers, and after that was over a lot of players figured out that PPT only mattered during league play, and outside of that you should only play for fun. except that due to population imbalance, WvW isn’t nearly as much fun as it should be.
so, what to do while we wait for the next season? EotM. good individual rewards, and the color-merging helps address the population imbalance.
the intended new meta may very well be: EotM for fun, and ‘legacy’ WvW during league play when PPT matters.

EotM is a farm fest. not really fun for a roamer.
on Piken Square and Gandara.
eotm sucks, unless you can get an organized group in there its just a karma train
karma training and farming are fun for a lot of people. which is why so many of them do it.
if you’re a roamer or you like smaller scale organized fights, the OP’s statement that EotM is more rewarding probably does not apply to you. this is probably for the best — if you can find a way to get the zergs off of the regular WvW maps the quality of open field fights on the regular maps should go up.
I do not see a downside here.

I was expecting this topic a lot sooner. I love the looks of the EotM map, but I still prefer the server wvw maps due to a loyalty to server-mates I guess and the regular people I play with.
But one of the first things I noticed and what kind of bugs me is the amount of badges rewards you get in EotM. Every cap gives an extra chest with loads of badges in them. The most I’ve seen personally was even 30 badges! Capturing SM in EBG gives me maybe 2 badges…
This hardly seems fair. Would definitely like to see this get balanced a bit.

They did up the rewards in WvW somewhat with the EotM map introduction but it is still not comparable. I am torn on the issue tho as I remember quite well the effect of “Yak Walkers” in WvW or what happened in season 1 when more than 50% of the bodies on a given map were just there for the AP.
Enjoyment of the battle should be the main reward for WvW and I would be perfectly happy with that if I also happened to gain enough rewards through regular WvW to craft ascended items without having to take a couple of days off each week to farm in PvE (or now EotM). The problem is more with us and human nature since there ought to be a few places left in game where fun is its own reward but seeing others getting more goodies somewhere else does seem to put a damper ones ability to enjoy themselves.

Oh don’t get me wrong. I LOVE to fight in WvW. It’s not about the rewards for me. It’s all about the pvp. However even with a lot of people donating siege to me, I still run low on siege blueprints and badges are my primary way of affording them since I like saving my gold for other things.
Now I don’t mind having to wait a bit longer to purchase siege with badges earned in EBG, but when EotM was released where you can farm hundreds of badges in a couple captures, it’s kind of unfair.

WvW has always had people who prefer to farm rewards (karma trainers) and those who want to fight “legitimately” (and those subdivide into PPTers vs strategists vs GvGers). The introduction of EotM has largely, in my limited capacity as an observer, separated those two broad groups: farmers are in EotM and those focused on “real” WvW remain in the original maps.
On the whole, I think this promotes more interesting game play. However, EotM is still new and I expect that people are still figuring out where and how they want to play. I think it will be another 2-3 months before we have a new status quo that we can analyze.
