Been away from the game for a long time, going on a year, so I’ve not been in the swing of things.

The deal is, I haven’t played since before Ascended gear, WvW ranks, etc.

Is it the standard now for WvWers to be decked out in Ascended gear, have high WvW ranks, etc, and do they pose a huge advantage to ‘new’ WvWers?

I guess what I’m asking is, has a huge WvW treadmill been erected since I’ve been gone that all WvWers are expected to climb in order to be competitive?

Just trying to decide if I should bother reinstalling the game and jumping back in. Thanks.

About WvW ranks, they mean anything, as if you play in a server that outnumbers your opponent a lot and you can only pvd, that server will have players with huge ranks, as WXP experience(mostly) comes from capping towers/keeps.

Thanks for the reply. Can I earn Ascended gear doing WvW, and if so, is it a viable method to earn it? I never was too impressed with Fractals enough to farm it over and over.

If a guild rejects you for not having full ascended, then you just made a lucky escape. Because that’s a guild you don’t want to join.

You don’t need any ascended to be in wvw guild. You need to be able buy/craft gear for guild builds, but all those builds are made for exotic items. Ascended is only nice upgrade, not requirement.

Your ascended weapons come from crafting.
Ascended earrings come from guild missions. (Or laurels)
Ascended rings and amulet come from laurels(dailies and monthlies)
Ascended back piece comes from fractals. (Apparently ANet working on making ascended back piece available through WvW)

There’s a small chance ascended equipment can drop in WvW or from the wxp level-up bonus chests, but I wouldn’t count on that.

It might be a long time down the road, but eventually, there will be zergs composed almost entirely of fully ascended, with all stacks available characters. If you think 1 ascended guy is no big deal, wait till you meet 40 of them.

One on one happens no matter what. For example, you are running to rally with your commander. A thief suddenly appears and there you go, got to have to run from spwan again. XD

Dont worry, just queue up, jump around the wvw maps until you find one with a commander tag and join the zerg. Ask what the teamspeak server address is and hop in to be given directions.

The only Gear Gating to content is Fractals and the silly idea of AR – let hope they dont continue on this path. Sure exotics became too easy to get and they had to make ascended but the whole appeal was that skill is more important that gear stats. Time will tell.

Most serious WvWers wear exotics. The difference in stats is minimal, the cost is ridiculous and if you want to experiment with builds it’s virtually impossible to get enough Ascended gear anyway – especially in WvW.

I doubt any serious WvW guild would even ask what you’re going to wear. They might baulk at allowing an uplevel into guild raids or GvG but that’s probably the limit.

A small 5-8 man guild might be stricter but the only requirement larger guilds generally require is to not die in the first push.

As stated above, being rejected for not having Ascended gear or the perfect build is a blessing. You will eventually be g-kicked for missing two nights in a row or miss casting veil too many times.

I have 8 hungry alts to feed and carry PVT and Glass Cannon armour sets on each (depends on how squishy the enemy is that week) so any thought of Ascended is out of the question. I’d rather put my time and money into a new build variation.

Any guild that requires ascended gear is lame anyways
