Or maybe they’ll clue into the meta, pool the gold, and buy some guilds.
Next time around there should be server achievements. First 1 should require you to buy at least 1 guild.

They should reward the last place servers more than the top 3 since they put up with getting steamrolled every week. Give the top 3 their finisher and the rest the rewards for bringing it when they faced certain defeat.

You try to troll an fail just to let you know. How about the coin to replace all of the siege that us l2p terribad servers set up in towers that the mega blob massively skilled players ignore because they can pvd a gate in seconds ignoring the defenders. I was going to say winning seasons is like winning the special olympics. Except the latter is a legitimate accomplishment.

That would be awesome (and quite possibly encourage people to not all stack into 1 server)
Rewards for season winners should be substantial, but account bound

Finished the achievement? I just put in a 9 hr shift since reset. If I’m more than 1% closer to finishing the achievements I’d be surprised. Because playing for score doesn’t go very far toward the achievements.
Anyone who’s witnessed players taking keep supply and dumping it into an actively trebbed wall knows what I’m talking about.
Rewards for season winners should be substantial, but account bound
All that’ll do is see a great many people (more than will already happen) transfer to the tier 1 winner before season 2 starts and cause 12hr queue times but 100% max players in maps 100% of the time…ie a guaranteed win in season 2.

No. They’ll get enough gold to transfer to Blackgate.

People forget there are three leagues. Winners of each will get the big reward. When players realize this after seeing season one rewards, I actually think there will be a lot of strategic reshuffling. And not just upwards.
WvW Season Chest contains: “rewards based on your servers’ performance in the previous season”
I am in whiteside rigde server: We finished 1x second and 4x third. We capture some camps, some towers, some keeps and we also captured the stonemist a couple times.
That is a huge performance for our server so I am expecting huge rewards and the end of the season.
pretty sure it means your servers rank in the end of the season

I dunno Nihevil, he has a point. This weeks matchup for BG is already turning out to be a nail biter!
REALLY,
why bother making a competition with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place than ?
this is part of what is wrong with this 21st century society and the mentality that everybody is a freaking winner even if you lost.I used to hate it in swtor when people that lost a battle ground complain on the forums because their reward was to low compared to the winners, I mean seriously you LOST be happy you got a consolation prize for losing !
go to a casino and bet some money, you lost, than demand some of the money back because everybody is a winner even if they lose, see what happens, I know real world example and all but seriously it does fit.
Teams in sports have equal numbers there bud.
( # = #.)
You really can’t call it a true competition if its not equal to begin with. If all numbers were equal and we still lost, then your comment would get a +1 from me and I’d keep moving to another topic in forum.
Oh this “everyone should get the same prize” argument drives me batty lol.
Everyone had equal opportunity to transfer to another server if the prize was the more important thing to them than the server itself. There was even a sale leading up to the league launch, with some servers even free (hint: Piken was ranked 3rd in EU, and at this announcement was medium population server and was free to transfer to).
There were quotes from Devon (I’ve repasted them so many times, I’ll just tell you go to look at his posting history starting Sept. 1st — nearly two months before the leagues started), that outline that indeed wherever your server winds up, you will get a reward based on that final rank.
This means that everyone had all the information they needed to make a decision that suited them — be it reward and first place (which was a gamble, which server would take first in the various leagues, subsequently making you work for your server to ensure that happened in the lower tiers — or stack up on a T1 server and pick your horse) — OR be it community and server pride. Some folks were lucky to have both. But the key is you had a choice. And even then, some of those choices meant not a nickel out of your pocket to do.
So please stop saying everyone should get the same reward. They shouldn’t. This is a competition.

This is a competition.
Error… Error… Logic doesn’t parse…
Can’t you see the contradiction here or is “competition” an empty and meaningless word now?
You addressed the reasons there should NOT be rewards in the first sentence. Encouraging stacking for a reward rather than balance for a good fight is anti-competition. The reason Anet encourages it indirectly like this is because it brings in money from transfers.
All the arguments in favor of more and better rewards seem to implicitly take this form:
“I’m from the #1 server in my league and I want better rewards for myself!” Then some empty contradictory rhetoric like ‘competition’. Not that many people still care about the PPT facade but saying something’s not purely about greed when it clearly is, doesn’t make a compelling argument.
It does when you stop focusing on T1 NA and realize there were viable options in silver and bronze leagues, in both EU and NA.
There is nothing false in my logic. If you felt server A offered you a better chance of winning the leagues over server B, you had the option to transfer, if the reward was the most important thing to you.. Nobody was forcing you to stay on server B, C or X.
My server will never win the leagues btw, so there goes your other argument. But I’ve never been one to be motivated by virtual pixels in an online game. I chose community over reward. But there’s that word again: choice.
Winning server get mini Dolyak. Server that finishes last get mini mr Sparkles as a consolation prize.
The rewards will be fairly large, you have to think about it from the perspective of ArenaNet.
By giving a large reward to the winners, they will induce more people to transfer to the winning servers. More transfers = more money.
Of course this will lead to the problem of having an already unbalanced WvW turn even more unbalanced.
So about 2-4 weeks before the start of Season 2 they will come up with some sort of incentive for playing on outnumbered servers. Hitting the people that just transferred to winners again for transfer fees back to smaller servers. More transfers = more money.
They basically can’t give good rewards because it would cause enormous problems come season 2 when everyone rushes to transfer to those servers at the top of each league.
People in lower populated servers (that eventually end up somewhere near the bottom of the league) who get pounded hard week after week yet they still show up and put in long hours into wvw (maaaany hours a day for 7 weeks) will get way less rewards than those transfers who only put enough for the easy wvw achievement key (needs just a few days). Seems legit.
Well… I expect 2 greens and 1 blue for winners… For the rest, 1 blue.

You’re really arguing that no one is “forced” to NOT bandwagon?… The “choice” you’re referring to is if there should or should not be bigger incentives for imbalancing tiers. The “competition” you’re referring to is who has the most population/transfers before leagues.
That’s a meaningless competition and the rewards should be superficial. If anything, the additional reward should be increased transfer costs to the top 3 placed servers and decreased transfer costs to bottom 3 on each league. That way, anyone interested in balancing out tiers would have an easier choice of it.
(edited by Zephyrus.9680)
Lol it always surprises me when someone from Mags complains about rewards.
I understand the idea of not bandwagoning but that is going to happen regardless — has been like that for a year now. But strictly to T1 NA. The idea of a winner in each league, depending on which server you bet on, offers some relief for that and potential population dispersal. Lower tiers are way more volatile, several guild groups could create a massive upset much easier there than in t1.
If your server won because of mass recruitment and gold exchanges, that requires advance planning no? I don’t particularly like it because I think it encourages the Zerg mentality with little chance to improve skill, but again you cannot dictate how others will play.
Giving the same reward to every server, regardless of outcome is silly. Why bother to fight then? What’s the point if the leagues if all come out equal in the end? It would mean season two would be a big lead balloon. People would do the bare minimum, then clock out for the rest of the match.
There absolutely has to be a big reward for the winners to motivate (some) people for the next round.
I’m complaining about rewards now? Good twist there lol. Recheck the OP.
It’s not just T1 NA. SBI got a large bandwagon just prior to leagues with the apparent intent to dominate silver league.
I’m guessing Anet is at least doing it right by giving superficial rewards for a superficial contest. Seems that’s what everyone’s guessing. Anything else would be ridiculous.

This I don’t understand at all. I guess you didn’t notice season 1 is a huge K-train orgy mixed in with some zerg fights, gvgs, fight clubs, duels and other random fun. It is because it can’t be anything else. There’s no other possible competition, fun, or reason to play except for these things. Only 1-2 servers are seriously playing purely for PPT and only in a small fraction of their matches. If you need to ask why play with no rewards in a player vs player game mode, you should probably ‘clock out for the rest of the match’.

It’s not just T1 NA. SBI got a large bandwagon just prior to leagues with the apparent intent to dominate silver league.
Did they dominate though? See? That’s the gamble of the lower tiers, and it shows how competitive it truly can be, even when attempts at stacking are done. There’s no guarantee. Same thing could be said about JQ too no? They were predicted to win at start of leagues weren’t they?
It could also be the difference between EU and NA as well. While we do have some lopsided matches, most of our servers head out and fight regardless. Which has made the leagues fun for me, even if my server doesn’t take first. There are also no inter-server organized karma trains either, even if stuff does flip a lot, it’s part of the gameplay.
I don’t personally need the rewards to play WvW, but I recognize that a lot of players do. So thanks for the advice though I’m beginning to suspect you’re just upset because you didn’t pay attention to the forum posts by the devs leading up to the leagues though.
This isn’t regular WvW gameplay where the reward for the server was jumping up the ladder. This is a defined season with X rewards at the end, depending on how well your server did. That’s been stated since Sept. 1. Here:
I can’t comment at this time as we haven’t finalized anything. In addition, you should look at it this way, if people flee lower league servers to get into the top leagues, it opens the opportunity for people to move to those lower leagues and finish 1st or 2nd, rather than being in the top league and finishing 6th or 7th. The rewards for finishing 2nd in the Bronze League will be markedly better than the rewards for finishing 6th in the Gold league.

First, the point is that it causes bandwagons, not that they’re guaranteed first place.
Second, your assumption that people wont come to WvW except to play the PPT game is still wrong… From what I’ve heard, EU is just as much about the fights as NA, if not more.
Leagues have been great and a good break from the normal matches. Actually I enjoyed fighting BG the most since their few roaming guilds make for an epic fight club.

Where did I ever mention ppt and EU in the same sentence. That’s blasphemy!
Most points on my server in particular (and most EU servers) come from stomp points — think 40% last couple rounds. All fighting.
P.S. The bandwagons were happening way before the leagues even started. Don’t blame that problem on the leagues or the potential rewards. And as I mentioned, at least with various winners in different leagues, at least there’s a better chance of population dispersal from T1. Before it was T1 or bust.

Same in Tier 2
They get 100g to give them back their transfer money.
Fort Aspen bought nothing, we’ve all been here the whole time. we simply started caring. Now that I think about, I think somebody bought our bad guilds from us. For example: I haven’t seen RET or ACE around.
PS: I personally don’t care about a reward, I’d settle for bragging rights.
(edited by roostergoblin.2801)
I’m pretty sure I remember them saying we would receive 100g each as reward right? Maybe it was 800gems. Or maybe it was a set of ascended armor. A free precursor for each of us? maybe +1000 achievement points? Thanks for rewarding us for all our hard work Anet! Looking forward to seeing what amazing prizes you have in store for us!
Surely it couldn’t just be a poopy finisher and another chest with some dragonite ore and a green item in it. That would just be silliness!
Nah, you are giving them too much credit. It will be a poopy finisher, and another chest with some ash lumber, and copper ore. And, a random chance at a white piece.
I hope the rewards aren’t that different. The winning servers should indeed get a zergling reward (zerger title anyone?), but that wouldn’t be politically correct. Other than that I feel sorry for a lot of large blob server players since the queues were tremendous apparently and people who weren’t hardcore determined on waiting to enter for 2 hours would not get any achievement at all, besides one or two servers in the current matchup being nothing and so the large blob server would literally have nothing to cap.
Playing on one of the low pop servers I got a chance to do all my achievements within the amount of time spent queueing for others on the larger servers. However it was a headache due to the massive zergs and sometimes you had no choice but to cap sentries and hope you didn’t meet any roaming guilds. 100g would probably help restitute my broken armour cost.
I hope the rewards are very nice, for all who got the achievement. It’s just rewarding different types of work, one which is waiting over a long period, the other hard work over a short period.
The next season though I hope they get a formula straight so we can get some better matchups. I think the largest headache for devs is that there are 3 world that need to fight eachother… each with a similar fighting chance. With so few worlds I don’t see this ever happening. That said maybe they can figure something out. Or maybe changing the way wvw rewards people for completing objectives is the clue.
I’ve recently been thinking of rewarding map-wide for any cap. There are obvious holes in this, but it is the only thing I can think of that would promote a better strategic play style.
I’d settle for bragging rights.
I don’t see how tanking your rank to slip out of Gold league to dominate silver constitutes “bragging rights”.

All this hard work on PPT in a game mode where players aren’t rewarded at all. 100% shocked. Flabbergasted, even.
