Maybe it is time to make wvw more competitive as well. I know anet said they wanted to leave server distinctions for wvw purposes but that doesn’t mean they can’t lump some servers together since 24 servers on NA can’t maintain high pve population without the megaserver system anyway. Making it 18 instead of 24 would help future tournies be more competitive and would give wvw guilds the ability to select several servers without losing competitive fun.

The 18 should be (listed by glicko score):
Jade Quarry
Tarnished Coast
Blackgate
Sea of Sorrows
Maguuma
Dragonbrand
Fort Aspenwood
Stormbluff Isle
Yaks Bend
Isle of Janthir
Borlis Pass
Henge of Denravi
Sanctum of Rall -> Sanctum of Eredon (SoR + ET)
Northern Shiverpeaks -> Northern Bay (NSP + EB)
Crystal Desert -> Kaineng Desert (KN + CD)
Sorrow’s Furnance -> Sorrow’s Rock (SF + AR)
Gate of Madness -> Gate of Crossing (GoM + FC)
Darkhaven -> Devona’s Haven (DR + DH)

S3 could then could be gold and silver leagues with 9 in each bracket or 6 in each bracket with bronze silver gold tiers. The server combinations would still give people avoiding massive Zerg fests from being forced into t1/t2 gameplay while increasing the ability to find parties within wvw. (Personally I like Sanctum of Kaineng and Crystal Terrace as server names, but it would divert from using the current glicko ranks)

You would need to merge the servers that don’t mind each other so they could fight their arch enimies still. I don’t know if there are any arch enimies being merged in your list above. I think GoM is arch enimies with a couple servers?

Sorrow’s Furnance → Sorrow’s Anvil (SF + AR) is better.

No; If people didn’t somehow enjoy the way things play in their server, they wouldn’t be there.

I guess Vabbi is proud of it’s achievements because they did it all by themselves. Do you think they’d be happy to go up just because they got merged?
Transfers to gandara had some bad effects on their community… Do you believe that merging servers wouldn’t have effects on their collectivities?

How can you suppose (if I understood correctly) that it would not effect the way these smaller servers play?

The more people are packed together, the more they tend to clump together and make zerg.
Would they be 20 or 50 men zerg, they still are zergs…
for small groups, lower servers are more manageable, and it should stay that way, that is, allow people to chose server according to gameplay instead of trying to make all servers the same.

Plus, the names… you know names are either in reference to GW1 or to great GW community figures? this merging idea takes off all the lore…

I also purposefully left out EU because idk what your servers look like since I play NA t8. And I like t8, but I’d like t6 with more people that would be on my megaserver flows from my server for wvw purposes (recruiting, borderland help, etc) instead of my flows being a jumble of unnecessarily different servers

Merges need to happen (imo). Yeah Vabbi managed to win and good on them. Now look at the sides they face. No chance for vabbi.
Last week 13 vs 14 vs 15. 13 wins by 200,000 points because of their superior player numbers. This week the scenario is much worse.

the only people that will complain about being merged is the ones that have massive advantages from their larger populations.
i dont know how small servers could complain when you go into wvw and theres 10 people on their server spread out between the 4 maps. its unplayable there is no way they can enjoy it.
you can say stuff like that for vabbi but thats just being irrationally resistant to change imo.
having more people to play with and talk with and cooperate with isnt a bad thing.
the only way that you could possibly continue to be happy with your server would be if it grew via new players or people transferring to it to make it grow (aka not die) which is pretty much the same difference as a server merge.

i would definitely like to see a poll for this.

Yes in principle megaservers are a great idea especially for those on low population servers. But it also means each server does not needs it’s own dedicated server. This means fewer servers Anet needs to spend money on.

So servers losing population that they need to merge them and saving money = game is in decline….at least that is what I get from this.

Macros, you can use them as long as they arent macros.
Remember to buy the officially endorsed GW2 Steel Series Keyboard, it supports macros!
WvW, we only care if it affects the servers we play on.

While I do think the populations sometimes do get too low at the bottom (the 10 people spread across 4 maps that you mentioned in your reply), I like the fact that play is different across the different tiers and don’t really want to see all the servers stacked so play is the same everywhere. I can also imagine the players from two different servers who have different styles of play for their developed communities and commanders having problems working together.

yes people can have problems with commanders on different servers
but people have problems with commanders on their own servers anyway

also its not neccesarily news that its failing but the way it is right now it will.
if people enter onto a map that is entirely empty of people they will leave

like right now in my wvw all 4 maps largely are owned by the same server and so i can not make a difference alone and so i am probably not going to play until i log on and see enough people that i can actually contribute to.

less players makes less players. people stick around because they enjoy playing with other people that is what an mmo is about if i want to play solo i have other games to choose from

There are some players that enjoy that kind of gameplay and transfer down to look for less people. Personally, I like a busy MMO, hence my home server (since launch), but not everyone is like that.

I agree but i think people still dont think people like to have a 100% empty map (which is certainly the case for some maps i go on)
and wvw the only time you dont want people in that is when it makes an overflow or if it makes lag
