How do these numbers even work. Blackgate got stomped almost as bad as Dragonbrand but gets 6 pts added, but Dragonbrand loses 70+ pts, and IoJ only loses 8. I just don’t get these numbers.

Well who ever gets Black Gate on friday. I hope you stomp them!!! Only reason they are beating Tarnished coast: is they have full server 24/7 and a bunch of guilds left other servers to join them. But when we man up they are nothing! we wiped right through them. Not bad for a bunch of RP’s.

Well, I don’t know what to think of server hoppers. They can be useful, they can be bad. Maybe place a limit of 3 days or something before anyone can WvW in their new server? Since the domination usually goes on during the last 3 days before a reset.
I have been with my guild in JQ since most of us began on Headstart… People are accusing HoD of being offline lol.. The way they’re going. Or that they’ve switched over to Stormbluff. Whatever.

It’s a ranking, not a score.
If you lose to a server with a higher rating or beat a server with a lower rating (the expected result), your rating won’t change much.
If you beat a server with a higher rating, or get beat by a server with a lower rating, your rating will change a lot.
Dragonbrand had a similar rating to Crystal Desert who defeated them soundly, so Dragonbrand loses a lot. Blackgate had a lower rating than the servers who defeated them so they don’t lose so much.

I don’t understand how CD can be ranked higher that IoJ, when every time we’ve been matched against each other IoJ has always place higher…
Look at last weeks matches.
CD vs DB vs TC: At the start there is only a 25 point spread between all 3 servers so it is expected to be a close match. CD ends up dominating so we get a big rating boost (+92).
SI vs IoJ vs BG: At the start there’s 40 or so points between IoJ and BG but SI is 225 points ahead, so is expected to be the clear winner. This match plays out pretty much as expected except despite coming last BG actually did slightly better so they gain a small amount of points at IoJs expense, but still nobody gains or loses more than 8 points.
CDs big win and point gain was enough to put them over IoJ who lost a few points, but only by 5.

As we know all too well, server populations change. The IoJ CD is fighting this week is not the same IoJ we fought two weeks ago … and ET is certainly not the same ET.

Right. That is not my issue. My issue is with the ranking system. If CD can be ranked higher than IoJ even though they have never beat IoJ, it makes me question the ranking system. There could also be more examples. This is just the one I noticed since it pertains to my server.
Fair enough, but bear in mind we were only just ahead of you, and you’re blowing us out of the water this week so you’ll get lots of rating points to redress the balance (+159 as I type this).

i think that the rating system is not working because there is little change to a server position based on previous week acomplishements. People are often arguing that servers are unbalanced and that they keep fighting the same servers.
I dont know how the rating value is calculated but maybe the calculation method could be improved or another system could be used to manage the ups and downs. Think of this Anet.
The short, short version is that ratings are a relative estimate of performance so if e.g. a higher ranked server beats a lower ranked server then the ratings aren’t as likely to change as if a lower ranked server beats a higher ranked server since the expected result matches closely to what actually happened. The closer the prediction is to the reality the less the rankings will change, the further off it is the more the rankings will change. Please see the referenced post for many more details.

that’s because this ranking system is for overall performance. Not specific server match-ups. Take a look at stuff like tennis rankings. Some pros have never played certain other pros yet are ranked higher. Look at the world no 1. I can guarantee you that the current world no 1 has not beaten every single other player.
Something seems very wrong with this server matching system. Why would a balanced matching system make something like this possible? This kind of thing makes the WvW not even fun. It just turns into what is essentially a spawn camp.

There are two reasons this is possible.
1. Free server transfers allow large numbers of WvW players to move to other servers causing the ranking of both the origin and destination server to be inaccurate. This will be alleviated somewhat (but not completely) by the introduction of paid transfers.
2. There’s not always 3 servers at around the same ranking, so you may get one server that’s ranked 200+ points above or below the other two. There isn’t really any way to avoid this.

Well a bet in 2 weeks there will be only WvW on 6 servers and Queue all time 2h+… all othere servers will be PvE with low population. This server transfer and Night Playing vs Empty servers are only kiling game…

Not just offline, not switched servers, just done with the game. Our biggest WvW guild, Titan’s Alliance, on HoD disbanded. As such things quickly went crap. People on HoD really aren’t going to bother much with WvW until we are at a more appropriate rating. Unless some other major WvW guild wants to come fill the void and get things going again. No queues on HoD anymore, the place is deserted.
If you want to rub it in to us for being dethroned go for it, just know that most of the people who were crushing you aren’t actually playing anymore.
I used to love WvW. (I’m on HoD). Here’s hoping our ranking changes quickly to match us with some other servers facing same challenges as us in WvW. WvW & PvE are so empty.
How can these be accurate ranks when WvW has so many problems. Like this week. Im from Gate of Madness and we are against Sanctum of Rall. They own 90 to 100% all the time. In the past when this has happened it is because they are hacking, cheating, bots, etc.
Beta WvW was fun, this is just …..
I keep a little strand of hope that this is just a transient thing until yall get all the bugs/hacks out, but Im loosin faith.
